I'll take a sharp 60fps 2D image over a fingerless "3D" blob that lags and glitches if you aren't wearing tight fitting clothes, are not white skinned, or stare at it funny. especially when the processor it is hooked up to is powerful enough to do perfect head tracking, chroma keying with no green screen, full body motion tracking, etc...
not to mention, for $40. Enjoy trying to justify paying 3 times more so you can river raft, whack red balls, or tickle sk...
bigpappy, software is not going to improve the resolution that the camera captures at. if you want to see that resolution, look at the fitness game they demoed at e3. you can see the exact form that kinect sees of you represented in the game. notice any fingers on there? that is why kinect cannot read sign language. it sees us as low res human shaped featureless blobs. those cameras are not cheap, so to make them affordable they had to cut down on the resolution a bit. not to mention that the...
not just soda, just about everything in your kitchen that is sweet in any way has high fructose corn syrup in it. the syrup you put on your pancakes, your soda (or almost any other artificially sweetened drink), your cereal... look at the labels on the back of everything you eat. you might surprise yourself at exactly how much HFCS we eat. I stopped eating it a long time ago, and noticed a dramatic weight change. overall, i'm a lot healthier than I once was.
um... i'm pretty sure if you look at the code on the blu-ray release, it too is digital. in fact, anything the ps3 does could be considered digital. that's kinda how computers work after all.
the decline for 360s begins... not much longer and it'll be back where it was.
bringitson, even if the flash were coming from behind the camera as you say, it's still casting IR light onto the people themselves and that's what kinect is looking at to see it's IR grid deforming on in order to tell where they are. if the sensor cannot see the grid being cast onto the person, it cannot see the person. but again, that only explains this one bug, not the 50 other videos out there that show it glitching up in optimum conditions.
yeah, IR is created by heat energy, and the IR light that this camera emits is many, many times brighter than any IR we emit. The IR from the sun of course is blocked out being that you're playing the thing indoors (in bright daylight it could have trouble if you're near a window though).
these are things that could confuse kinect:
too close to a window on a bright sunny day
bright lamp too close to your body
camera flashing

while this case may be explained, ask yourselves this. how many move tech demo blunders have there been? how many kinect tech demo blunders have their been?
it also doesn't explain things like THIS (@ 4:25) ( http://www.youtube.com/watc... (notice the song playing in the background... hilarious irony there!)
the music playing in the background during the glitch on the first video is very... ironic. lol.
well, I normally am the first one to rip kinect a new one, since I think it sucks, but I will actually come to it's defense this time. Camera flashes emit IR light. Kinect works by casting an IR grid across the room and looking how the squares in that grid deform to determine the layout of the room and every object in it in 3d space. if it's constantly being bombarded by flashes of IR light from camera flashes, it's not going to be able to "see" much of anything.
When you're sitting down, it's no different than just taking your right hand off the DS3, leaving it sitting in your lap for support when using it as a sub controller. The games that require a sub controller don't require you to be standing to play them anyway, so you can comfortably sit the controller in your lap. It's not uncomfortable at all, I game that way on PC all the time, using a DS3 in my left hand and the mouse in my right.
exactly, they barely give a good enough bitrate to support halfway decent 1080p, they damn sure aren't going to have the bitrate to support 8 times that many pixels without it looking like crap.
it's funny, slim has sold so well it's been out of stock all year, outselling 360 the entire time week for week since slim launched. 360 slim launches and A) it's seeing nowhere near the kind of sales ps3 slim saw when it launched B) it's sales are already falling back off again, especially in Japan and C) at this rate by the end of the month PS3 will be back on top again.
When ps3 slim launched, it was outselling xbox by a matter of hundreds of thousands of u...
actually it can be proven. people who buy new consoles buy games for those consoles, so if there is a boost in hardware sales, you can tell who bought a new one vs. a replacement by looking at the jump in software sales, which for xbox 360s is nowhere to be seen.
kinect me too? um... kinect? the eyetoy rip off that even stole the name of one of eyetoy's games (kinetic)? or wait, a second generation rip off since vision cam attempted to do what eye can do but flopped. let's not forget about nintendog... i mean kinectimals, and wii spor... i mean kinect sports.
at least when sony copies something, they actually make it better. not the case with microsoft, who's idea of archery in a sports game is aiming with your left hand a...
it technically could be used to pull off the same effect however, being that the 3d camera can see where you end and the background begins, it can use that to isolate your body from it and also tell how far a limb is away from the camera by comparing the 2 slightly offset video feeds. toss move in there, and microsoft will be wishing that it were connect. 3D video chat sounds awesome too!
Isn't BP like 40% american? - What difference does it make? This is an issue with a company, not a country.
Hasn't there been a coupled incident where American tankers have sank and caused oil spills in the UK and no one paid? - No.
Isn't the oil rig itself NOT BP's - Yes, but the oil it produces, and the oil that is currently washing up on our shores, is. BP also held seniority when it came to the decisions made on that rig, such as telling t...
As a Gulf Coast resident who sees this first hand every day, that was heartwarming. To see the truth being told, when so much of this prettied-up PR bull!@$^ is all you see on the news, is relieving. Here are 2 other things you WON'T see on the news...

and now you see you can do the same thing with a $40 camera vs. a $150 camera.
