4k is over 8x the number of pixels per frame as 720p, which is what the vast majority of ps3/360 (and currently wii U) games run at. Then of course, everyone is going to want to have 60fps for next gen as well, which is 2x our current standard fps, so you're talking about a 16x the number of pixels per second needed just to keep up with those demands. And that's assuming you're running games that have the same shader and physics complexity as current generation systems, without ad...
Er, double post.
The person who wrote this article is an idiot. I know they're full of it when they say that hooking a PC running the game up to a TV made it look just as bad as the 360 version. Yeah, if that PC only has 512MB RAM and is rendering the image at 720p, maybe. Not only that, but we did good to hit native 720p this generation. Asking for next gen to do 4k, which is 4 times the resolution of 1080p, and 8 times the resolution of 720p, is ridiculous.
*smokes joint* ...nope, definitely not the cannabis. I've been smoking for 20 years and have never had a single violent impulse. I think 2600 grateful dead shows without a single incident of violence proves that.
Top selling console... in the USA only.
They just posted their first ever loss as a company... And they spun it into a positive headline?
In ATI's defense, their open 3D standard is convenient. I don't like having to use Nvidia compatible 3D monitors, I can just hook up to my 3DTV and go with ATI. However, the drivers have been very unstable for me. Many times the CCC won't even open at all, other times the save button to make changes will not work. Add in the glitches in certain games as described above, and the fact that the card has already crapped out on me... Yeah, back to Nvidia.
Yeah, I recently bought a 6870 (I always buy mid range cards, buying state of the art is just stupidly overpriced), and was disgusted at how poor the drivers perform. Not to mention the card crapped out within a few months and had to be RMA'd. I'll definitely be going Nvidia next time.
Playing a video game for almost 2 days is not a fatal activity. This kid died from something else. If I can go party at a festival for days at a time with little or no sleep, I don't think a 40 hour stretch of gaming will kill me.

You have to understand that multiplatform games can never utilize a system to it's fullest potential, as the developers always have to program for the lowest common denominator for each system they are porting to. You can't make a feature in a game that will run on one console but will not on the other. Or, you can, but developers will rarely ever put the time and money needed to do these things into the game if it's only going to be available on one version. Not to mention consol...
Iwata is smoking crack. They couldn't even make Batman run better than current gen systems on Wii U.
There is nothing free about PS+, Sony making $50/yr off each player would help cover costs. As far as this being PS4, streaming gaming isn't at the point yet where it can replace a console. Latency is still too high, especially for shooters. People complained about killzone's 133ms latency from the time you pressed a button until you saw it react... and that was running locally! You'll be adding a minimum of that much onto any game streamed over the internet.
If they took a large library of PS1/PS2 games and made them free to stream on PS+, I'd be all over that. They wouldn't be able to get every game, due to licensing issues, however they could get most of them.
Still, 4 is considered an unlucky number in Japan, english or not. Sony already broke the numbered name trend with Vita, it's likely they'll do the same with PS4.
I'll believe a crash is coming when we see dumptrucks dumping millions of copies of unsold games into landfills.
Tell that to every PS+ subscriber... or live subscriber as well since you only "rent" your online play.
Someone's a bit butthurt...
Having taken apart many PS3's, there is no "power board" at the back of the unit. There is a small power supply near where the outlet plugs into the system, which is on the back, but it isn't a board (though it has a board in it) and it does not extend across the entire chassis like you see in this pic. It's likely just cosmetic, perhaps made to look like the engine of a car as you suggested.
There is not a single GPU on the market right now that will run the most visually demanding games at 4k resolution at any decent frame rate. One year down the line will simply mean what is top of the line today will be midrange by then, and that's the absolute most you can expect to see in any console. You don't have to be able to see into the future or any of that garbage to know this, you just have to know how computer graphics work. Next gen visuals at 4k even at 30fps is a pipe dr...
