Are we talking current gen 4k, or next gen 4k? PS3 can run ps2 games at native 1080p (maybe even higher) also, but you won't find many ps3 games running at native 1080p.
If by losing you mean continually outselling the Xbox 360 (enough to not only keep pace with it's year long head start, but to also shrink the lead that 360 developed during that year to less than 2 million units), all the while costing as much as $200 more, yes.

Guys, with a firmware update PS3 can do 4k. The difference being, will that be 4K games or just 4k video (as the BD players and all that the article mentions only provide). You need to keep in mind how much more power is needed to actually natively render a game at 4k resolution. Most PS3 games run natively at 720p resolution. 4k is more than 8 times higher resolution than that. For that alone you need 8 times the power of the GPU to handle rendering that. The thing about any fanboy is, they're blind to the truth. Don't tell one group how Wiik their console is, don't tell another their console has a poor exclusive lineup, tell another their online service is lackluster... All 3 will try to tell you otherwise.
Victor, while it is true that the Wii U has a tablet packed in every console, it also is true that the Vita is cheaper than the Wii U will likely be, and there are already tens of millions of PS3 consoles out there. For those who already own a PS3, Sony just made it cheaper for them to get the same features as Wii U than actually buying a Wii U. This will hurt sales for Nintendo.

If they want to be equal, want to be treated just like any other person, why do they do so much to draw attention to themselves? To make themselves stand apart from the crowd? While it was a good game, and is what introduced me to what "next gen" really was all about back then, it was nowhere near as good as the first 2. Those games, to me, were a lot more intense. Pressing a switch and having a hundred enemies teleport into the room with you as the walls opened up revealing the rest of the level, you just didn't get that kind of experience with Doom 3. I know it was trying something new, and attempting to weave a bit of the half life style story narr...
At least then we'd have a console that didn't catch on fire, but still let you chat online with your friends even if they're playing another game. As long as they don't start charging you to play it online, or sell you features and them remove them later, I think it'd be cool.

kinda reminds me of the tech that Sony showed where the Vita's camera was able to make a 3D model of a room as they walked around the room with it, and super-impose objects into 3D real world surfaces that you could walk around and view from any angle. As you walk through the room, more data points were added to that room model, making it more accurate. This idea, but using a kinect-like depth sensor, seems to be what is in the patent. It would make for some really cool 3D object scanning...
Playing only on the Wii U gamepad means you have the latency introduced by the wireless transmission system that you have to deal with before you see the image. When sent to the TV, it goes over a (much faster) hardwired connection.

No successful console manufacturer has ever dropped out after one bad generation. And, the generation can't be considered all bad either. Sony won a format war, launched an online platform that serves multiple Sony devices, and picked up one of the biggest cloud gaming companies out there to prep for the future. slightly cleaner current gen games =/= next gen. that's like saying xbox was next gen bc it looked better than ps2.
I just got back from vacation, and had to laugh after reading this article. While I was down there my cousin's 360 RROD'd on him.
This list failed to me when it didn't list Warhawk. I won't play it without sixaxis control, and it's also why I didn't buy Starhawk, they took it out. It just doesn't feel the same to me.
