When your customers complain that you are not living up to their expectations, you don't reply by saying "Yes we are!!!", especially when their example only included 2 developers by name and a vague reference to an unknown number of additional developers. If they have all this support, why not detail it?

*Shows Gears of War and Halo*

"There ya' go! Those should keep you busy until the next Gears of War and Halo games come out! If you don't like shooters, we'll put out a new Forza every year for you! What? You want more variety? Here's a bunch of multiplatform games. Look! There's a timed exclusive poster hanging on the wall of a building of this Call of Duty map! ONLY ON XBOX!"

Seems like the "less focus on gaming, more focus on entertainment" and "always on" rumors are fitting right in with their actual roadmap more and more each time another one of these leaks happen. I could see a few of them being fakes, but they're all echoing each other from different sources each time.

Some of my best experiences this gen came when playing a single player game offline. I love online, but offline is a must for me. It represents my roots as a classic gamer, before online gaming was ever even thought of at any wide scale.

It also ties into being where I'm from, in a hurricane prone area. We lose power a lot from storms, and with it goes the internet. You can run a generator to keep a TV and a console going for a few days to help pass the time (and help you...

Remember the MS patent for using Kinect to monitor how many people are in the room and charge you to watch content based on the number of viewers?

"design, implement and deploy video processing pipeline for DRM'd videos for indexing into the Xbox video catalog"

No, It isn't just a high end PC. Or a mid range one. It's a console. A console who's CPU and GPU do not have to communicate over one-size-fits-all bridges that limit bandwidth. A console who's RAM is not only top speed, but also unified, and doesn't have a resource hungry operating system to carry around on it's back. A console that doesn't restrict you to only working with PC API's, one that lets you code "to the metal" to get the absolute most perf...

Well, there is a big difference between acquiring a patent for a system that prevents used game sales vs. having a system actually implemented on a piece of hardware. Sony owns patents for all kinds of tech that never sees the light of day. Also, I didn't see a bunch of rumors leaking that PS4 would have DRM like that, all that hoopla was based on the patent filing. There wasn't really any rumor to go along with it, just a patent filed by a company that has a history of filing patents...

From the "Official" Xbox magazine, saying there is "nothing wrong" with always being online... = Damage control topped off with a hint of spin.

The entire gaming community seems to know everything about it. Just like they knew everything about PS4 before it was revealed. And the info from both came from the same sources, and was verified by different sources. This isn't just a bunch of 12 year olds on a news aggregate site making predictions.

“We apologize for the inappropriate comments made by an employee on Twitter yesterday. This person is not a spokesperson for Microsoft, and his personal views do not reflect the customer centric approach we take to our products or how we would communicate directly with our loyal consumers. We are very sorry if this offended anyone, however we have not made any announcements about our product roadmap, and have no further comment on this matter.”

Here come the damage control articles... First the "this backlash isn't fair" articles, then (assuming the rumors are confirmed) the 20 or so articles that begin with "Why always online isn't a bad thing"... and if not, the 20 or so "I told you so" articles.

N4G is too predictable sometimes... I enjoy the news bits, but the cookie-cutter nature of these opinion pieces is getting old. I wish that people would take time to research, investi...

Not so much a "lighting effect". It's post processing. For those of you who don't know what that is, I'll fill you in.

In the professional video/film production industry, we use post processing effects to make the footage we shoot look better, or to add visual flare to the image. For instance, color grading. Color grading is taking a finished video and altering the colors to give the film or video a certain "feel". The green tones used in the m...

A few potenial scenarios here:

1. MS is pushing this info out early, before the launch, so the fans will have a few weeks to vent out their frustrations before the console reveal takes place. That way the negative shock of people learning of the machine's always on DRM will be reduced, enabling them to focus on showcasing the games and all that without them being drowned out by negative press.

2. This guy just leaked out info he wasn't supposed to yet...

Assuming our spec leaks have been true (which held up for PS4, so we gotta give them some credit), it would be very difficult for Microsoft to make any real changes to the architecture this close to launch from a design and engineering point of view. You must consider that even changing the type of RAM from DDR3 to GDDR5 requires designing a completely different RAM controller for the system, then you've still got the EDRAM to worry about (do you keep it and rack up massive system costs, ...

My guess is similar, but more economically priced hardware (similar enough to run the same games), and a focus instead going on bundling kinect with every system and pushing for the device to be an entertainment hub. Expect a big focus on media, not just games.

Most of these gaming rigs also do not have the CPU and GPU on the same die (much faster connectivity between the two), 8GB's of GDDR5 to play with, etc... They are general purpose office machines that have had high performance parts grafted onto them in order to enable them to play videogames... while still having to maintain general purpose functionality. A console is tuned specifically for gaming at the hardware level, and as such will always outperform a PC with the same specs.

Blu-Ray discs are far more rigid than a DVD, and also are scratch resistant, so I haven't had that many of these scares this generation.

Nvidia keeps making themselves look worse and worse every time they open their mouths. I mean, we knew they were butthurt over losing their console business, but this is a little much.

$1k cards being compared against a console. First of all, PC cards never get maxed out before they are due to be replaced. This is the reason why, if you go back and look at every PC game that came out during the time of RSX's launch, the vast majority of them ended up being outshined by R...
