To answer your question sherimae, GDDR5 has much higher bandwidth (can move more data at once) than DDR3 does. DDR3 has lower latency (can get that data to where it's going faster). However, video games tend to be more bandwidth hungry than they are latency hungry. So, in the case of PS4, having higher bandwidth seems to be the better trade off.

The ESRAM is similar to Xbox 360's EDRAM. It is a small pool of very high bandwidth RAM that MS is rumored to be using to he...

Way to Kinect the dots detective. Requires internet, requires gasoline... It all makes sense now.

Nintendo has survived bad generations before. They made the mistake of picking the wrong gimmick this time around. Motion control worked wonders last gen because nobody had done it before and it required specific hardware to pull off. None of the other guys could do it and not be seen as copycats, and it worked.

This time, N relied on a touch screen interface. Once Sony and MS came up with phone apps that did the same thing on devices we all already had in our pockets, Wii U...

Pretty good. They still have the fluid looking too thick to be water (look at when the tank of water explodes, it gathers in one big globby mass in the center of the table instead of flattening out and conforming to the shape of the table), but it's definitely a leap in the right direction for a true water simulation in real time. Just to give an idea of how much of a leap this is, this video showcases what is used for professional pre-rendered CGI to do the same effect. It's the same...

Jimbo, I've never had to use an online pass with any first party sony game. They have mentioned all games using it, but so far have not implemented it. Uncharted 3 didn't even ask me for a code, though that was the last first party game I bought.

You have to keep something in mind though, Warhawk used raytracing to render the volumetric clouds, and that was a PS3 launch title (that got delayed a bit). Just because you use raytracing on one aspect of your game does not mean your hardware supports real time raytracing of an entire scene. Even our best GPUs don't do a very good job at that at this point. We still have to cut corners and fake things that would be raytraced entirely on a CGI pre-rendered scene.

Another bullshit article from another no-name site with an inflammatory headline designed to generate hits and discussion in order to heat up it's temp on n4g. Vote this site down... These guys are idiots.

Run, duck, cover, shoot, kill enemy, throw grenade, rinse, repeat. Toss in a few QTE's for arming bombs and the like, and you have every Killzone game ever made. Not to hate on them, but they are defined by the most generic terms a shooter ever could be. They still have their audience though, or they wouldn't sell.

I personally would like to see better vehicle integration.

Why assume that tentonsoftube was one of those people who was jumping to conclusions before? That only makes you look stupid if it isn't true. If it is, providing evidence would be a good idea.

Why MS doesn't just do what Sony did when people were going nuts about that used game prevention patent for PS4, and say "Our console will support offline play/used games.", is beyond me. They're letting all this negative hype spin up, not only from internal sources but now from the developer community as well. This is only hurting them, and they're sitting around doing nothing as if it were true.

I think SITH forgot we are talking about next gen consoles here, and we've already been told all PS4 updating will be done in the background, even when the system is not powered on.

@dcbronco

Online gaming has been free on literally EVERY other platform other than the Xbox, for decades. Sony isn't "trying to figure out how to get people to pay" to play online. They're trying to figure out how to sell people additional content. They never had any intention of making us pay just to play the other half of the game we already paid for. See, unlike Microsoft, when you pay Sony for their online service, they give you things like free game col...

There are plenty of good reasons to hide it. For instance, you don't want to negatively impact the sales of current generation consoles before your next generation system is ready, and if you announce too early, you won't have enough content to show (those demos aren't made overnight, and the developers have to take time away from developing the games in order to make the demos ready to show). Not to mention the secrecy aspect of it, so your competition doesn't steal your idea...

@LVLUP Trust me, they'll use that RAM. Be it for super high resolution textures (as high res as on PC), cross game chat (even video chat), video sharing, spectating, additional frame buffer room for 3D as well as VR... if you give an artist a giant canvas, they'll figure out a way to make use of it, even with a limited amount of paint. PS4 is designed to have as few bottlenecks as possible, and last gen RAM was the big bottleneck.

Yes, it has outsold vita before, and will likely do it again. That wasn't the point. Vita's sales suck... and for a console (which is the successor to the most popular home console of this generation) to have to struggle to top them... That says something.

Were they doing the right thing by sending the cops to raid a guy's house who was the first to leak this sort of thing out? All these actions do is give credence that Microsoft is very worried about this information getting out. If it were just a rumor that was not true, they would just do an interview and say "we have no intentions to force users to remain online while playing any of our consoles". They wouldn't even have to announce a new console to do that, and it would i...
