Hell, he don't have to. Any "realistic price" or beyond has come from this dude alone. I seriously doubt that even he thought he could pull this off. Kudos to the seller.
Still waiting (read, hoping) for a proper G1 game.
"thats my problem sadly"
True. Eternal Darkness was - to me - my personal magnum opus as far as Nintendo is concerned. I never bought another Nintendo title after that. Ironically, ED also happens to be my favorite game ever.
"Is the apparent dumbing down of video games becoming an epidemic, or is the chasm between novices and fanatics growing dangerously wider?"
Sadly, both. It's become one of the biggest reasons for me finally investing in a gaming rig. BTW, great read.

LOL. Good stuff. And who could forget about OddJob.
While I may somewhat agree with the first three quarters, I totally disagree with the last quarter of your statement. Games like Goldeneye, Killer Instinct, Perfect Dark, Eternal Darkness, and several others tell me differently.
Bubbs m'man.
In all honesty, DLC packs are just as much of a detriment.
Not hardly. I feel that, this year specifically, we have reached the golden age of "this generation" of gaming. But in an era ripe with DLC, accessibility, regenerative health, faulty hardware, buggy software, sequelitis, etc, this gen as a whole is anything BUT the golden age.
I second that.
Nice ideas you have there.
"If we were to release a new game, we’d know what to improve and how to reach a broader audience."
A little concerned about that statement. I'm just hoping they don't steer the game closer to becoming a full fledged FPS in their attempt at gaining a larger fanbase. Like gillri said, incorporating stealth elements would be nice, as the gameplay wouldn't have that "cat and mouse chase" feel to it.
That's the thing that puzzles me in that so many companies are so afraid to take "risks", but opt to go the "safe" route, and in most cases have to settle with lower than expected results. Whereas lately niche projects like LA Noire, Heavy Rain, Catherine, possibly Dark Souls, and the likes have all seen some form of success - even with little to no marketing.
Maybe they weren't able to get TC Carson to do voiceovers.
@ theseeder
Too bad Codemasters never realized that while developing Red River.
Entertaining and great post.

I'm a PS3 owner who just recently made the jump to PC gaming, but that's largely due to the fact that console gaming has become a little too casual for my taste. Outside a few console exclusive titles like L.A. Noire, Demon's Souls, Heavy Rain, RDR, etc., there hasn't really been much to my liking. Not to mention, this sweet looking gem of a game called ArmA 3 making its way to PC next year had a little something to do with it as well. I really hate it ...
This is actually a fairly decent article. I agree on a number of points. And I must say that fear88 made one of the best posts I've seen recently on this site.
Man. The reviews are really slow coming out for this game. May get it anyways.
Lol. My sentiments exactly. One of the last midnight launches I did was GTA4. And considering how disappointed I was with that game, that pretty much ended my midnight launch crusade.
@ csreynolds
I think he's more so implying that PS3 owners have better taste in games, hence the lower number in COD sales. But even that's moot when taking Stan's point in consideration. Nonetheless, the fact remains that console bashing is pathetic as you've pointed out.
