So true. And on the subject of sequels, rarely did you come across a franchise last gen that consisted of 2 or more sequels all within the same gen. The DMC series is the only one to come to mind. Now it seemed to become the norm.
- the rise of DLC
- incentive for devs to rush an unfinished product out the door (via patches).
- rise of fanboy senselessness on the net
- obscenities and cheating in MP gaming
Yep, I would agree.
Can't believe Heavenly Sword's not on that list.
Yeah, the GameCube for me too. I initially bought it at that time for all intents and purposes of playing the "next gen" Perfect Dark....only to eventually find out that M$ had acquired Rare. Ironically, I hate that I got rid of my GC due to the fact that Eternal Darkness happened to be a personal fav of mine.
@ Jio
So did I. And am receiving more than my fair share with my PS3/PC combo.
Just report him guys.
"New IP's means a big chance of poor sales."
Yep, sure does. Just like games along the likes of Heavy Rain and L.A. Noire.

Looks like the Tim Burton Batman costume - a personal favorite of mine.
@Tanir,
I thought I was the only one to think that. I got the game as a fill-in as part of a B2G1F deal at Target (mostly based on the praise and hype). I understand that many like it, but I feel that freebie could've been put to better use. It's just not doing it for me.
@DaveMan
I couldn't agree with you more. But that's not to discount the importance of a good narrative.
Good for you Jammy. Unfortunately for me, my 60G YLOD'd on me back in February.....the Cloud feature debuted in March if I'm not mistaken. Not to mention, I lost hours upon hours of Demons Souls and Mass Effect 2 saves. Suffice to say, like tigertron mentioned above, Cloud was the lone feature that sold me over on PSN+.
Nice article. There are so many factors that contribute to changing of the landscape of quality gaming this gen, many of which have been pointed out in this article. It's among the many reasons why I've added the PC to my gaming repertoire.
@ ainsz
Not long ago, I can recall Cage mentioning about his next PS3 project in development, so admittedly, 2012's just a bit of wishful thinking on my part.
I don't normally do this but I have to inject this...
Wargame: European Escalation and whatever David Cage has in store.
Lol. Scary analogy.
Personally I felt they've already done that...with MGS4, no less, when they made stealth an option.
I totally agree.
Personally I would love to see sequel. Outland was a very underappreciated gem of a game.
Well said radphil.
Same here, fluf.
