@ Emilio
Admittedly, my wording may not have been the best. I don't have anything against sequels. You've mentioned great examples. It's just that once we start seeing a stagnation of “sequels of sequels” and only a few new & innovative IP's being made with little to no attention, that's where the problem lies. This generation has mostly been defined by its over-reliance of sequels and spinoffs.
A sad truth indeed.
Yeah, that and GTA4 were about the only two from his list I actually agreed with. It's a shame what Codemasters did with the Operation Flashpoint name.
Nice article.
Personally I would have picked MGS1 and/or MGS2 over MGS4 in terms of impact. Esp MGS1.
The thing that appealed most to me about UC3 over UC2 was the emphasis they placed on melee combat. I prefer playing on the more punishing difficulty, and it was rather rewarding for me being able to advance through the relentless AI without heavy reliance on a firearm. That, IMO, only added to the challenge. The best part about it, in most cases throughout the game, you were forced into melee combat with no options.
Well put.
I also mostly agree with the article, although I wouldn't entirely say that I will be avoiding next gen consoles. I can list several more reasons in addition to what the author has as far as my opinion on the current gen is concerned (ie casual gaming becoming more prominent being the biggest offender), and as a result I've found myself investing more time in PC gaming. But at the sametime, it's hard to turn away from console exclusive gems like Red Dead and Heavy Rain, to name a ...
It's also on the official PS3 site...

^^^Probably the most sensible and respectable response I've seen in these comments, and I totally agree.
^^^This times a thousand. And it's not like there's a shortage of short games. Sadly, this gen has been defined by them. Even though lengthy campaigns have been having a strong showing lately, they are still a rare commodity.
Even though there were more moments of frustration than what I'd prefer, I have to admit that ME was a breath of fresh air for its time. I guess my craving for anything remotely challenging this gen, among other things about the game, is what eventually made it a favorite in my collection. If there were anyghing I'd like to see improved in a potential sequel, it would be an increase in the game's length. And for the love of God, please...PLEASE don't make it shooter-centric in...
"...filled with scavenging for bullets, a segmented health bar, and other humans being a larger threat than any monster -- it's working in a way Uncharted never did."
Could it be? A game this gen with no regenerative health? This game is sounding sweeter by the article.
"This is a third-person game, but not one that presents the characters as overpowering heroes. They're not expert fighters, nor even are they at Nathan Drake's level."
Wow. This game has just become that much more intriguing. Seems like they're adding a hint of a realism factor for challenge. Nniiice!
Assassin,
This is not exactly Mythbusters, but close enough...

I'd love to see a prequel to Heavenly Sword - something based on the bonus animated shorts. That way, Nariko can still be a playable character in a new game without having been "revived".
Lol I agree with what you've said. But I gotta admit - the Cestus were pretty badass in GOW3.
Regen health on an already super easy game? Wow. Just wow.
IMO, games don't necessarily have to be "fun" to be "enjoyable". Games like Demon's Souls and ArmA 2 weren't built around the premises of being fun, but still I found them both to be among some of the most enjoyable experiences I've had this gen on their respective platforms.
Good. The longer the better. Ensures quality.
