...Not to mention, any NES Contra.
Ninja Gaiden 1 and 3 NES, for that matter.
One of the better articles I've seen on this site for some time. But I'd say yes, for the most part, games have definitely become easier, particularly this gen. Granted, there have been a few instances of old school gratification. But for every Demon's/Dark Souls released this gen, there has been about 20 Assassin's Creeds released along with it. And even that may be understated.
Voice integration can be done for either platform, regardless of Kinect. See EndWar for reference.
Agreed. You thought they would've learned from the SOE version released a few years back.
Unless I'm out the loop about some things, there is healthy competition with soccer in general. I don't really follow that sport much, but from what I can tell from customer feedback and reviews, both games (FIFA and PES) seem to be doing well because of it. Sadly, we don't have the luxury of healthy competition in American football (anymore). And for that reason, and the lack of a quality sim NFL game, I have not purchased a sigle NFL title for this entire generation of gaming. H...
Took the words right out of my mouth. Well stated.
Never been much into FIFA, so I grabbed FIFA 12 just for something different. Burned out on shooters.
Well said
I don't think I've ever seen a more false statement posted on this site. Competition is essential for quality.

I would hope that too. But I'm afraid that what's happened with EA in the basketball arena will only make them more aggressive in pursuing long term exclusivity with the NFL.
"We are very excited today to announce the Mass Effect Trilogy coming to PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. All three award-winning games from the series will be available together in one premium package, complete with foil box and exclusive artwork. Mass Effect Trilogy will also mark the long-awaited debut of the original Mass Effect on the PlayStation 3 console!"

Same thing I was wondering. They may have to release a patch for current owners of the PS3 ME2 to allow choice integration from ME1, unless its already implemented - which would raise another question.
They've apparently obtained the rights to release ME1 or they would've never specifically announced it for the PS3 in a press release. Now how they went about doing that is beyond me. Maybe regarding it as a “Trilogy” created a loophole somewhere.
As far as the delayed release, I'm assuming they are working on a definitive version of ME1 much like they did for ME2.
Nice read, and I totally agree with everything mentioned...although I feel that the repetition really started hitting home for me much earlier this gen of gaming let alone the past few years. Having a PS3 and a gaming rig, the PC is rapidly becoming my preferred platform for gaming, not only for the value in software (i.e. Steam), but also for its diversity of games that can't be found on consoles (i.e. milsims and rts's).
"I've tried to let people know that Kickstarter isn’t the place for funding someone else's franchise," Avellone said, "Sega owns Alpha Protocol, for example, Dungeons and Dragons is Hasbro. That’s a different kettle of fish."
Ok, understandable. So why not do a spiritual successor akin to Perfect Dark when EA nabbed the 007 license, or a more recent example, Dark Souls. Having the freedom to start fresh with a new IP would allow them to expand and ...
I would love to see them take another crack at Alpha Protocol. There's some serious untapped potential in a proper modern-day RPG.
So do I. Strange that it didn't touch upon the rise of casual gaming. But one glaring omission the article failed to mention was the unreliability of the HD console hardware this gen. For as much as these systems were priced around launch, it's absurd that the hardware was as problematic as it has been for both consoles. I'm hoping next gen don't fare as bad, but I'm sure that just wishful thinking on my part.
Good pick. But to a greater extent, I'd say The Path of Neo. That game had sooooo much potential, but may have been a little too ambitious for its time (on a technical level). That game done right with a little more polish, length, and consistency with the movies could have been something special.
This was indeed a nice read.
