Thank you for the review. Your cons have encouraged me to wait for a price drop, rather than give into pressure from a friend.
One of the september blog winners right here! :P
In-depth review on what I should expect from the game (haven't played ICO). I'll be sure to pick this up soon.
g4tv's will be on there eventually.
Basically falls back to the idea of it being better suited for minigames or just "enhancing" core games. That's a shame when considering Rise of Nightmares is really the first to show off Kinect's potential.
The wait will be worth it just for the SP campaign. Can't get enough of it so far.
Ironically enough, you just pointed out WHY the story feels under developed. Since Rachel Parker, the british narrator, is the one delivering most of the narrative, we're not able to understand Hale motivations throughout half of the game. There's actually noticable gaps in the story considering she actually says "I don't know HOW he got into the tunnels" (might not be verbatum). As enjoyable as the narration is, it was basically there just to fill in the context for ...
"...like Edge which have an awful history of reviewing games and are able to write and publish not only rubbish but are respected."
Edge is respected not only for their writing quality, but for their extensive use of the 1-10 review scale. Granted people are going to moan over X exclusive not getting an 8 or 9 from them, but I personally have constantly seen at least 3 pages for the more hyped games they have reviewed. I think n4g needs to lay off the site that ...
That might be your case (who knows, perhaps it's the case for most of n4g), but I was able to play it once I bought it around Xmas. Balancing isn't too much of an issue since it's "get X weapon first and control _____ part of the map".
"Was R:FOM the only game you played in 2006?"
No I played Gears, R6V, Twilight Princess, and all of the other heavy hitters of that year.
"...the graphics were dissappointing compared to Gears and definitely when dropping $600 down for the PS3." Granted it certainly wasn't the super-computer that its cost alluded to; doesn't mean it was still a great looking game. I would dock it down to a 7-8 b/c of the uninspired artstyle...
1.) Since when is an 8 something to be sad over?
2.) Shouldn't we as gamers demand reviewers have a stricter scoring system where 10's and high 9's can be saved for only the games that bring something new to the table? Even if it's just a nuance to the genre?
I'd recommend at least renting Fall of Man to see what you should expect from the Resistance series overall.
That's almost word-for-word as to how I felt while playing through the game. Having a limited amount of time with PD on N64 (recently purchased on XBLA), I wasn't sure what to expect when it came to the mood of the game-I think that was the case for some reviewers as well.
After being greeted with a cheesy intro song, you should expect to have a game's story that is intentionally campy. For that reason, I felt like it should almost be praised in some facets ...
I'll be sure to pick it up soon. Thx for the recommendation.
Hope everyone enjoyed the review. If you have any questions about the game, feel free to ask in the comment section or through PM. With the imminent release of Resistance 3, I hope this review encouraged you to give the series a try. Hopefully Resistance 3 is the best in the series (no chance 2 will get that honor after playing the campaign :P).
I heard it was more of the deviation when it comes to Nuts and Bolts. With a formula that was said to be "the best the N64 has to offer", it makes me wonder why they'd change course from such a highly-praised direction.
Expect 3 more in the coming days (depending on how much work I have) as I sound off on the Resistance series on PS3.
Regardless of how honest this blog may be, it's not going to go over well with the n4g community.
Hope everyone enjoyed the review. If you have any further questions about the game, leave a comment here or PM me. Let me further add that I would give PDZ a certified fresh badge were it not for the campaign. The online aspects are just amazing for their time and still offer some mechanics rarely seen in today's FPS.
How can you anticipate a crowd playing under the tagline "You are the controller" will fall back to a large controller with a touchscreen? One garners to simplicity while the other is trying to be that "next big thing".
This lies more with what I'm saying about "disagreeable scores" and should not harm their integrity to anyone who's sane.
"They've had an obvious double standard"
No, they obviously had 1 reviewer think ODST is an 8/10 while another reviewer, or same reviewer, though Killzone 2 was a 7/10. Just judging by this post, I'd say you hardly ever look at these things empirically. Any gamer can find Halo 3:ODST to be better...
