You know that for sure? The 360 slim made it a damn site cheaper to install a drive. Who knows what they will come up with. Does the PS4 come with a proprietary bay for the HDD or you making another assumption on that as well?
Will the masses care?
Its the masses that decide what succeeds and fails not the handful of so called "gamers" that frequent this site and feel that the world revolves around them. The benefits of always on and always connected can be sold just as effectively as a service like PS+
however, let's wait till all the facts are known before we waste time setting up encampments and attacking something that most of those making the noise about never i...
The sales a few weeks back was incredible! Bring on the next one!
This is not the 1980s or 1990s anymore. The gaming business, like any business, looks to expand its markets and appeal to a wider audience. Consoles need to feature these types of features to appeal to as many punters as possible.
Furthermore, if the competition has it and you don't then the competition will look better.
Who cares about the spec war! Its about the games for goodness sake.
That's a great thing as look at the tech they are packing into mobiles a d tablets now. Honestly, I am looking forward to the day I can take my tablet, dock it next to my TV so its running off full power, pick up a Bluetooth controller and get some hardcore gaming in.
I would rather be able to take my expensive toy with me than leave it sitting at home all day. Tablet on the go, console when at home. I love this idea and although its possible today, I'm guessing it...
That's true about minimising costs however, Sony will want to do the same with the PS4 over the course of its life so those profits for AMD won't necessarily increase just because AMD can cut their costs. Sony may expect those savings to be passed onto them...just like us consumers like them to be passed onto us.
Its incredible how many just jump on the bandwagon without knowing the full story. I'm prepared to wait and see and make my decision based on facts and of course, the games.
Anything can be made to look bad without knowing the full story. For example, let's say you had to pay an ongoing monthly fee to keep your games unlocked else they won't play. And although the games may be free in the first place you have to wait a year after they are released before you ca...
I can't add another comment to another post so will respond here. I did not say anything about having a single console, but rather an agreed set of standards that developers can develop to. Let the different manufacturers come up with different variations in terms of extras as long as they comply with a set baseline set of specs.
You know, exactly how manufacturers do now with TVs, DVD players, etc. Why have an environment that increases the cost of development like we...
So, you're saying that there is no competition with TVs, computers, blue ray players, etc?
This whole nonsense around exclusives is infuriating and illustrates why we need a common set of hardware standards that developers can develop to. Having to buy both consoles to play the handful exclusives available for each is just plain antiquated.
Gaming use to be about the games and not some pi$$ing contest over who's corporate branding dawns the front of a plastic box sitting next to your TV.
Not yet, nor do they have to. Mind you, if they were as graphically rich would they be priced like console games?
Sony did not announce that games will be streamed to tablets but components of a game if a developer decides to support it.
I realise technology will always leapfrog, question is, will the masses care about the difference in a tablet come console or dedicated console in 7 years time. If they cared now then the masses would be jumping on the less expensive Vita bandwagon and not opting for other more expensive portable devices. Its about what best fits in with peoples lifestyles as well.
Why have a powerful console sitting at home under your TV when you could take it with you?
Depends on how much market there is for dedicated gaming consoles in 7 or 8 years I guess. A lot can happen between now and then. I can certainly see tablets increasing in power significantly over the next 7 years and who's to say that they won't be an all round device, I.e. tablet on the go, central media and gaming hub when docked next to your TV.
Streaming services are likely to take hold over the next generation For gaming as well requiring even less powerful ha...
Sony's browser is years behind the competition and nothing over the past few years would suggest its ever going to catch up.
Now, imagine if Sony just allowed you to pick from Opera, Chrome, Dolphin or Mozilla. Its not just about games that gives a device a certain appeal. Its about being able customise and load it with any app you like. This is one of the reasons the Vita lacks mass market appeal.
Hmm...as a former PSP Go owner and long time PS3 owner I find your comment hard to swallow. I cant remember the last time Sony released a firmware update for PS3 that contained significant new functionality. Same went for PSP updates for the last few years. I also feel that drip feeding capabilities is not good business either. Not when the competition features thousands of Apps that do everything the Vita can do only a hell of a lot better.
Just open the Vita up to the P...
I guess since this is on the vita that casual gaming is now acceptable?
In all seriousness, this is great for Vita but the price is not. Casual games should be priced like casual games.
And it will probably run all sorts of emulators :-)
Many tablets can be used with a SIXAXIS now so that takes care of that problem.
