Sony/MS also factor in potential software sales into the equation. Something PC manufacturers can't do. I mean, how much royalties did HP or Fell earn from COD sales?

BluRay was not needed with the current gen, well, not having it certainly didn't cripple the 360 like some might have you believe. Oh the hardship of having to insert disc 2 or 3 to complete an install to HDD.

Anyway, next gen additional capacity will be required so smart choice to include support for bluray media this time round.

Both companies make statements to play down reality. Remember Sony saying that force feedback was so last gen to downplay th...

But you're not one of the children you refer to. Children of today will grow up using smart, portable, multifunction devices. By your reckoning these children will go back to buying CD's, buying dedicated music players and cameras.

By the time these children are your age I doubt many will be buying expensive tech that just sits under a TV. The power that will be packed into phones and tablets within the next 10 years will mean dedicated consoles will become irrelev...

You know, I recall it was said the PS3 was capable of Pixar quality visuals....

I'm not doubting the capability of the PS4 but just like every piece of tech, its outdated as soon as it hits the shelves.

PSPGo was great and I was the proud owner of one. The Vita, well, I'm not convinced it will go the distance.

That's an assumption based on what?

Well, I mainly game on-line so it was annoying but not the end of the world when PSN went down. I simply found other things to do. Thing is, I actually found I spend less time gaming since the great PSN outage of 2011. There asre simply better things to spend your time on. Sure I still game but I game less and if the service is down, I simply do something else. Its nothing to get up in arms about.

People need to put gaming into perspective. That too me makes more sense, ...

No, that is no big deal. $hit happens sometimes so get use to it. When Sony's PSN was down for over a month in 2011 the world didn't end, just a handful of those that would rather sit on their a$$ all day than do something more constructive found themselves at a loss and vented their frustration on the internet.

Gaming is not the be all and end all when it comes to having fun.

Exclusives are the reason you buy a console but with development costs of big titles increasing studios will want to maximise returns. Will be easier for developers to go cross platform next gen given that it sounds like next gen consoles are running on very similar architecture.

Majority of the gaming, albeit including casuals, already give away the possibility of on-selling their games as they digitally download. If all DD games were priced to reflect that you can no longer on sell then the idea of no second hand games might be more palatable. However, chances of that happening is slim as both Sony and MS overcharge for DD games.

I am not against MS charging for live but I am against them charging per profile on the same console. That is plain criminal.

You get what you pay for.

I'm with you on that one. If it were a simulator then I could understand the moaning re: lack of cockpit view. This is a definite must buy for me but will wait to see which console version performs and looks better. GRID was great but some screen tearing and jaggies tarnished the overall experience for me.

I didn't think it was trying to. I'm getting one for its media and emulation features but will also have a next gen console or two as well.

If it does find a good market and they do release a new version each year, will be interesting to see how it performs in 3-4 years. Probably be based on a tegra 5 or 6 by then.

I'm getting one just because I finally want a console that does not lock down its media playback and dlna features. It will sit next to my 360 and ps3. So glad my TV has 4 HDMI ports :-)

As for other peoples comments about paying $100 to play Angry Birds...so, if you just wanted to buy a PS3 to play AB what's the cost? Honestly, Dead Trigger, Modern Combat 4, Dungeon Hunter 4, emulators, media playback, decent web browser...looks like good value for the price.

If it supports MAME then that is reason enough to get it at that price.

Earthquake killing hundreds and inflicting billions in damage....catastrophic yes, an always on console...catastrophic?... Hardly. Someone has lost perspective on things me thinks.

Visuals look a treat, I've just never been into fighting games on any system.

So nothing has changed. Developers without as many budgetary and time constraints will potentially put in more effort.

Utter fanboy drivel. Honestly, the Vita is not much better than Tegra 3 let alone Tegra 4 and here you are claiming its better than Tegra 5!?! Honestly, enjoy your Vita for what it is but even Sony's own smart phones pack more power now.
