Yeah, that's fair enough and I think it's the sensible way to go about it.
I just wonder what percentage of people think like that compared to those who feel that, after transitioning, they're just as much a man or woman as someone born that way so don't want to be labeled as 'trans'.
I wonder what category this character will be in?
Yeah, it's a bit strange. Cis genders have a right to know but I'm guessing some activists might say otherwise; that if the transition is complete then the person in question has a right to be viewed solely as their chosen gender and shouldn't have to disclose it :s Could lead to all kinds of acrimony. I hope they put that stuff down on their dating profiles, you know?
Also, from a more humorous point of view, if this character has fully transitioned and is s...
If the character has already transitioned when we take control of them in-game then isn't he technically, for all intents and purposes, just another male protagonist? In which case there's nothing historic about it ;)
Yeah, I'm not sure why but the article seems to take a cautionary tone, like its trying to make us aware of some kind of foul-play. It uses the words 'full blown VR game' almost like its a bad thing.....
Not sure why but the line saying, 'remember that this game, from the start, was Valve trying to build up VR', sounds almost accusatory. Like the author is trying to insinuate some kind of shadiness.
Nothing wrong with any dev making VR only games and trying to push the medium forward. I mean, what else are they supposed to do? Make non-VR games and then slap some kind of half-assed VR compatibility on top?
Even if/when they iron-out pricing iss...
Precisely.
If all they do is pander or adopt a shallow, one-sided view, then there's no real value to the so-called political 'themes' to begin with.
Whoah! Where did that come from? Who on earth is 'ya'll'? And why am I seemingly part of them? There's a TL;DR at the bottom ;)
You see, this is why games makers are so loathe to broach anything even remotely political/social political. Your 0 to 60 in 3 seconds rush to anger actually helps my point, in a way. This is why political themes, or closely related subjects, often backfire in games.
My comment is aimed at everyone and abou...
The problem isn't the idea of political themes in games. The problem is people wanting games to push very specific views and completely one-sided politics in games; propaganda in other words.
If you can treat political themes in a balanced, fair and nuanced way, showing both sides of an argument, then go ahead.
Good point. I couldn't see it happening otherwise.
It's a very good game, great mix of gameplay elements with good pacing and fun combat. The main character is far more likable than I thought he would be.
It actually feels more of an authentic Star Wars experience than the recent films, imho :)
Yeah, as much as I enjoyed the first game, I preferred DL and am much more interested in its sequel.
Still, I wish them well and I'd love them to surprise us all with this sequel...should it ever release.
I'm hoping this is just a taster and a trial-run for HL3.
They always said they would bring out HL3 when new-tech was available so many thought VR would be the catalyst to get things going.
If this is a trial-run though, I have to wonder how confident they are in HL3 VR. Why the need to test the waters? Or perhaps they're waiting for further improvements to VR before committing to the last part of the trilogy? Or maybe a larger install base? ...
@Neonridr
I think the disagrees are simply because whilst he's technically correct, HL fans want (desperately ;) ) and expect Half-life 3 to be a direct continuation of HL 2, Ep 2. So in that context calling it HL3 wouldn't make sense.
EA, regardless of what people think of them, will be fine from a financial point of view. Those sports franchises will keep raking in money :s
In terms of them earning back trust from the more hardcore community (I don't think the average gamer gives a crap), it'll take a long, long time. Still, this game seems to be a good start at least.
Yeah, they're both great systems. Now we just need a game that has both. It'll be like inventing chocolate and peanut butter cups all over again :)
Hah, I haven't played the game so can't comment on its quality but, regardless, that description made me chuckle :)
Agree.
I often think story is something a lot of young reviewers feel strongly about (way too strongly, imho) because they weren't around when games were solely about the gameplay.
I think a lot of them want movie/game hybrids, or at least that's how if often comes across to me.
Good point. This reviewer is very young indeed.
'One of the only honest ones left'? What has honestly got to do with it? I wasn't suggesting the writer was dishonest, just that I don't trust the quality of this review or Eurogamer in general.
No site, or indeed no one person, is ever going to agree with you about everything. That's life and if people can't accept that then they're gonna be angry all the time :s
I'm fine with people not agreeing with me. Heh, I wouldn...
That's a good point.
How much genuine, instinctive, artistic creativity can possibly be coming from the devs themselves if they're literally asking a different entity to tell them what their own character should be like?
Maybe they should farm out the gameplay to someone else too ;)
