Wow, of all the games from 20-odd years ago, who sat there and thought, 'You know what game really needs to be brought back? Kingpin!'.
Don't get me wrong, I kinda enjoyed the game back in the day so good luck to them.
Well, it seems his new career as a theatre producer is going very well so maybe he's just spent all his gaming creativity and originality.
Sometimes a person runs out of ideas within a given field and they need to move to other pastures. Sometimes they're one-hit wonders.
Warren Spector made Deus Ex, often regarded as one of the GoaT, and then did what exactly? I think he's making SS3 but who knows if he still has the Midas touch?
True or not, you gotta love the sweet smell of that click-bait title. 'Crush', indeed...because, of course, that sort of language, from Forbes of all places, is always reasonable and not at all provocative.
Apart from some occasionally clonky combat, I really enjoyed this horror game. Really nailed the Shadow Over Innsmouth feel with the opening build-up and escape through the hotel starting things off brilliantly.
Good to see people still caring about it.
Thanks for the reply, particularly that last paragraph. Hadn't thought of people having to take two jobs, and you're right, many writers go on as if devs aren't free-thinking, free-willed individuals.
Thanks for saving me some time :)
Yeah, I get the impression crunch in gaming gets talked about so much, and ignored in other professions, because journos are always looking for something dramatic to crusade about. Makes them feel like they're doing some real, grown-up reporting about something more important than video games, which apparently for many of them isn't a valid enough job.
Some of them act like they've broken the next Watergate scandal.
The question in the article headline implies devs crunch for our benefit. They don't. They do it because it fits their own needs.
So asking, 'Do we want that?' is pointless.
A more interesting and pertinent question is, 'Should crunch be illegal?', as in, should there be a limit to how many hours and/or for how long an employee can be asked/required to work overtime for? Because, if you're morally and ethically against crunch, t...
You're right, any vague season release window usually means it's rough estimate. I'm glad they're simply saying, 'We'll let you know later'. Hopefully they'll only announce when they know for certain. Maybe at E3 they'll say it's an September/October release.
Yep, I'd include Vampire Masquerade 2 as well :s
2020 originally seemed like an insane start to the gaming year.
On the plus side, we've got Resi Evil 3 Remake, which we didn't know about at the time we were watching E3. Oh well.
Still, Jim Henson's Dark Crystal Tactics hasn't been delayed and releases on the 4th of Feb! We're all excited for that aren't we? Eh? Yeah? Anyone?
I hate devs giving release dates that aren't set in stone. Just say, 'It's ready when it's ready folks, we'll let you know'. Any release date that is 6 months+ is to be taken with a big pinch of salt. The longer the time before release, the more variables there are still in play and therefore the greater the risk of delays, especially longer ones.
If I had my way, they'd only announce release dates when the game is complete and being polished,...
I loved Kingmaker. It was great to finally play a game that uses D&D style rules after so many years of the license being used for other types of game.
I have to say though, I'm disappointed they seemingly didn't make enough money from its sale to able to fund this themselves. Unless, of course, they could but would also like some extra funding to get things started or maybe to increase the scope of this sequel.
Good to hear that Kingdom Man...
Yeah, I agree, the format was slowly expanding the size of its worlds and I think the last two were natural progressions that have greatly renewed my interest in the series. I've been sorry to read its not to everyone's tastes.
I really enjoyed the last two, particularly Odyssey and, if the rumours are true, I'm looking forward to more mythological creatures :) After all, while a lot of AC has historical themes, they already play fast and loose with that with ...
Phantasy Star II was my first JRPG, think I was 16.
I have such fond memories of it, it transported me to a world I just fell in love with. For its time it had some genuinely emotional story telling and I also remember loving some of the music too. The combat was good too. The only thing that grated was some of the XP grinding, which was new to me, but everything else made it worthwhile.
Loved the fourth one too.
Yeah, those expansions were fantastic and the game was already huge to begin with. It's a game that's truly epic in scale.
@AspiringProGenji
Well, I do agree with you about DM plateauing and then getting comfortable and then easy, but come on, 'a couple of hours'? That's a gross exaggeration and I think you it and are just being mischievous ;)
The first two hours of W3? You probably spend that doing the tutorial, talking, riding about and exploring with only a couple of fights here and there, not to mention Geralt also bathes twice in that time, heh.

It's all good, I was simply wondering how hard and in what ways you would have changed W3 in order for it to be to your satisfaction. I assume it can't just be down to how many attempts you need because that's a poor metric. By that standard Genesis Silver Surfer is a master class of difficulty design.
You mention hit-boxes which is fair enough, though that's a design problem. Not that I was fussed since I never really noticed anything too bad.

Not having a go at you here but I'm not sure what point you're making about difficulty. I watched your vid and you're doing everything right. Potions, dodging, using all buffs and signs correctly. You did everything right and were rewarded.
You want it hard so that the gameplay works how exactly? So that even if you're a good player using all the tools at your disposal you still don't win? You want that Griffin to hit so hard that it goes clean thro...
It holds the record for greatest number of GoTY awards and is only 5 years old so it's not surprising it gets mentioned so much. Same thing used to happen with Deus Ex.
Hope they find new employment soon and I also hope they hire new guys to continue working on SS3, preferably with Warren Spector at the helm.
