Pirates will be happy to hear this. Cracking groups aren't touching this hot mess for the moment, they'll wait til it's worth the trouble.
Achtung! Where's the capital 'F'?!
Talking of moons, I'm actually pleasantly surprised with Moons of Madness, a Lovecraftian tale set on Mars.
It had a rough start but it picks up nicely and has good pacing, a mix of scares and nice attention to detail. It's a short game too, for those who like things short and sweet. Not amazing, but worth picking up on discount if you enjoy games like Amnesia or Alien Isolation.
Then you might be in for a treat as a couple of people I know claim it gets increasingly better after chapter 3.
I stopped reading after:
"I started the widely acclaimed Witcher III, but couldn’t finish. No archery."
The list of games this guy plays must be incredibly small ;) If someones tastes are that specific and, dare I say, blinkered, I'm not sure how well-rounded, thoughtful or interesting their opinion is going to be. A tad harsh maybe, but, meh :s
@P_Bomb I agree. The lack of combat in SotTR was bizarre, especially since, as you say, they had a lot of skills and systems made for it.
My experience was similar to yours it seems; I got the tree hanging skill, thought that there were going to be lots of Batman Arkham style combat situations......but nothing happens. Not even the much talked about camouflage mud got used that many times.
I pretty much stuck with the same assault rifle the whole way...
It's close but I'd plump for The Surge. They're both worth a go though and I hope other Souls fans don't ignore them just because they're used to the high standards FromSoftware set.
This article is a bit sensationalist and relies on a premise that I don't think is true to begin with. Regardless of the meta-score, I don't read too many opinions stating it's their GoaT. In fact, for many Zelda fans, it's quite divisive.
Yeah, it's bizarre how some sites get so caught up in the hype.
I was on a site the other day that said they wouldn't be scoring RDR 2 on pc because they couldn't bring themselves to play through it again and didn't want to be in a position where they might give it an 8/10. They said they couldn't go through the mediocre gameplay for 60 hours without the story to prop it up. They also said the mission structure was bloated and the narrative repetitive....
I prefer the TR games (not the 3rd) but only because I prefer the gameplay in 1&2 compared to the Uncharted series. Uncharted 2 was fantastic though.
However, I'd give Uncharted the edge in pretty much all other areas but they're not as important to me in a game like this. Yeah, an unpopular opinion, no doubt, but there you go.
"It is a hassle. A slow, monotonous, fiddly, irritating hassle. It's pure indulgence, every whimsical fancy that crossed the studio's minds has been tossed in without regard for the player's time or the gameplay experience."
For a second there, I thought this was his RDR 2 review ;)
If you're trolling, that's fine, but if not then relax mate, heh :)
No one is making excuses for anything, it's just an explanation of how things work, of reality - of how to get the best out of a game. No card is going to do 4k 60fps on ultra in the most demanding games, in all situations, you know that surely ;)
All the tests on various games from different sites are there for everyone to see. If anyone bought a 2080ti expecting rock solid...
Ultra shadows are demanding. Volumetric clouds are a resource hog too, along with certain smoke effects.
Nvidia hairworks can be demanding, depending on its implementation. If you're playing at 4k, I find I don't need anti-aliasing as the resolution keeps things sharp on its own. Draw distance is often a factor too.
Basically, start by turn off anti-aliasing. See what difference that makes.
Then lower all shadow settings to high (or m...
Yeah, me too. The fact that 4k eliminates the need for anti-aliasing is quite a boon :)
"Lots of people think that if you're not running the game on ultra you're missing out, but that expectation is just unrealistic."
Very true! It's like the word 'ultra' makes them think they're missing out on some kind of mind-blowing visual experience, heh.
Yeah but that's not surprising so I'm not sure why this article acts like it's news.
Besides, often all you need to do is change a few details down from ultra to high and you're good to go. Much of the time, you won't even really see the difference. Creed Odyssey was a similar situation.
I remember only getting 55fps on Dying Light. I simply switched shadows down from ultra to high and hey presto, 60fps. The difference was nothing,...
Well, he's more of a genius than Peter Molyneux and I say that even though I loved Populous, Magic Carpet, Syndicate and Dungeon Keeper. Does that answer things?
Yeah, that's a good point, the fact that he used to be reined in by Konami. We'll get a better idea now he's independent.
Anyway, creative genius might be a tad much but if I have to choose between that and 'overrated weirdo' then yes, genius it is. As @chrisx mentioned, Psycho Mantis was, for example, amazing and certainly a moment of genius.
However, I understand completely that many of his games won't be loved by everyone. Al...
Me too.
It's funny, when 3 was shown off some at Blizzard were fairly contemptuous of people who complained it seemed to bright and colourful. They even put in a rainbow filled my little pony Easter egg level to make fun of them.
Seems they may have changed their mind on what atmosphere suits Diablo best :)
Eurogamer is one of my least trusted sites, which is saying something considering that I pretty much don't trust any of them to begin with :)
I got the impression the writer isn't very good at this kind of game and also has a short attention span. Oh well.
