Nintendo must be tired of repeating itself.

" Only expanding on exiting hardware is dull." - Iwata, March 2015

"What the other companies are doing makes business sense, but it's boring. The same games appear on every system. At Nintendo we want an environment where game creators can collaborate and think of ideas for games that could have never happened before." - Miyamoto, Nov 2014

"A unique software experience c...

Nintendo is not interested in being like Sony and Microsoft. Nintendo wants to differentiate its hardware from Sony and Microsoft's. For better or worse, they want to be different. M-rated games generally have not sold well on Nintendo consoles due to factors such as demographic issues because Nintendo has not actively cultivated the older gamer demographic and its marketing for its platforms is aimed at a younger demographic as well as families. Wii U's had titles such as ZombiU, B...

For the record, Platinum showed Wonderful 101 for the first time at E3 2012, but it was not part of Nintendo's E3 press conference. Instead it was shown after it on Spike TV with a live demo if I'm not mistaken. Anyway, I think this new title won't be for Nintendo even though I wish it were. It sounds like it will be either a PS4 title or go multiplatform with Xbox One.

What an underwhelming lineup, Capcom. Now I remember why I lost interest in you beyond your Monster Hunter titles.

Nintendo is competing for market share, but the original plan was to have Wii U follow in its predecessor's footsteps by using a blue ocean strategy and hardware differentiation. Nintendo designed Wii U to offer a more unique experience centered around the GamePad and to target not just avid gamers but non-gamers as well. Wii U was never meant to go head- to- head against PS4 and Xbox One in a battle over hardware power/graphics and resolution. For better or worse, Nintendo was never t...

Yep, better online battle mode tracks is all this game really needs left, but it's not likely going to happen. Besides, the dev team has spent a year working on DLC for this game, it's time to move on to a new project.

Yeah. We do know that the Treehouse will be providing coverage of more games to live-stream demo than it did in 2014, so that's something to look forward to.

1. Nintendo likely will not announce a price cut if at all this year. First, the new Splatoon console bundle just came out at the end of May,so Nintendo doesn't want to undermine its initial sales with a price cut so soon. Secondly, the longer Nintendo waits, the lower the production costs of Wii U's hardware will be. Lastly, Nintendo said its prioritizing achieving "Nintendo-like" profits in 2016, so we may not even see a potential price cut until spring 2016.

I don't think it will happen, at least not as an E3 announcement. A shame too, since the initial footage looked quite good.

There is no point in bringing back Wii Sports or any of the other Wii branded IPs for that matter. Nintendo stopped making them after 2013 when it acknowledged that the non-gamer audience weren't interested in Wii U, so Nintendo refocused its software efforts aimed at its dedicated fan base.

What's baffling to me is how Nintendo didn't think about making Mario Maker sooner. It would have been a perfect launch title that should have replaced New Super Mario Bros U.

Anyway, Splatoon's Japanese sales are a pleasant surprise. I expected them to be considerably less.

EAD Tokyo did Mario 3D World in 2011 followed by Mario 3D World in 2013. Also, a smaller team there handled Captain Toad in 2014, but it was a small-scale spin-off project. In an interview dating back to April 2014, EAD Tokyo commented on having begun work on a new project, presumably in relation to Super Mario, but did not saw what platform it is for. However, at the time they mentioned that if it turns out to be a project for Wii U, then they would have to consider better use of the GamePa...

Project Treasure was first shown as a teaser trailer back in January 2015 when featured in a Nintendo Direct. It honestly looks quite iffy and it's free-to-play. I'm not confident at all that it's a game that will in interest many Wii U owners. It looks low budget and low effort based on what we've seen of it. I do hope I am wrong about it.

Devil's Third was confirmed last year by the game's director to be on track for a 2015 release and it has under...

Nintendo's E3 this year is only focused on games between now and April 2016 (a month after its fiscal year ends), so people should keep their expectations realistic when there's still at least 6 games confirmed for release in the west for a 2015 release that Nintendo has to provide coverage for. Keep in mind Nintendo has to include coverage for 3DS games as well, both upcoming and newly announced titles. To further put things into perspective, Nintendo already released 4 games this y...

Satoru Iwata said that Nintendo didn't have any plans to do a price drop for Wii U anytime before March 2015 despite acknowledging a price of $250-200 would likely boost hardware sales. He had hoped that Wii U could achieve a certain level of satisfactory sales volume and have specific titles such as Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros serve as system-seller titles in 2014. At E3 2014 in June, Iwata wanted to try doing a better job of communicating the value of the Wii U GamePad to consumers thr...

Quite frankly, it will really only encourage Nintendo to try more things, but in the style of the kind of games it likes to make. Notice Splatoon while being a shooter is not a conventional, gritty ,realistic shooter. It's the opposite: Cartoony and bloodless.

Nintendo generally diversifies its software when it occasionally publishes third party developed titles such as Eternal Darkness, Bayonetta 2, Devil's Third The Last Story and so on. These are few in number an...

Uh ... Kirby & the Rainbow Curse came out in Japan in January, then Mario vs. DK and Mario Party 10 in March. After that, Xenoblade X arrived in April and Splatoon obviously came out just a few days ago. July has Yoshi's Wooly World scheduled for release.

Anyway, as far as the Japanese Splatoon launch releases goes, I think the game only sold well because Japanese retailers likely requested low shipments for it. We saw the same thing happen with Xenoblade X yet the game...
