For me, No Man's Sky was the most interesting game shown at Sony's E3 conference last year. I suppose that's a good and a bad thing. Good because it looked like one of the more unique games there, but bad because an indie game was more interesting than most of the other new titles shown and also because it isn't an exclusive. Overall, the conference felt too long and bloated with the most throwaway segments and awkwardness. Personally, I yawn at most of the typical AAA third p...

The unfortunate reality is if people aren't interested in Wii U now when we already know about many of the upcoming games, then nothing is going to suddenly change their minds to buy one. I doubt there are any major new 1st party game releases from Nintendo coming out this year when it still has 6 other games scheduled and this isn't including Project Guard and Project Giant Robot.

As for 2016 games, Iwata did state recently that there are unannounced games that will ...

I do agree that Devil's Third like Bayonetta 2, will struggle to find a supportive target audience on Wii U, but I appreciate the game exists assuming it will turn out to be a good title. If it does, then I'll buy it just like with Bayonetta 2.

Anyway, here's a statement from Itagaki on the game's development progress as of November 2014:

"This is a screenshot from the E3 build in June... good news for you guys here. The amount of prog...

Probably because none of them have sold particularly well. Although, nearly all of Nintendo's more mature-like IPs are rated T for Teen and not M for Mature. Depends on the game. For example, GoldenEye 007, Xenoblade, Metroid Prime are Teen, but Eternal Darkness,Perfect Dark, Geist and Conkers are Mature.

As for hardware power, Nintendo is more interested in pursuing hardware differentiation than trying to compete directly against Sony and Microsoft in a battle over graphics... a war it won't win and it knows it can't because Nintendo has acknowledged that it isn't a good competitor nor is it as resource-rich as its rival platform holders. In addition, Nintendo has never done a good job of actively cultivating the older gamer audience while Sony and Microsoft always
have. T...

There is no hybyrid console. It was always nothing more than a ruomr and one that was quickly shot down by Nintendo. We've known this since January 2013, so I don't know why people keep bringing it up.

Here's Satoru Iwata's statement about what the unified architectural strategy is NOT:

"What we mean by integrating platforms is not integrating handhelds devices and home consoles to make only one machine." This is in reference to Iwat...

Nintendo doesn't really care about universal achievements.

Shigeru Miyamoto: "I'm not a big fan of using the carrots[on a stick] to motivate people to play. I want people to play because they enjoy playing and want to play more."

Bill Trinen: "I think that when you look specifically at games from Nintendo EAD and a lot of other games that Nintendo has developed a well, there are things you can do in the game that will result in some ...

Next Level Games.
Retro Studios.
EAD Tokyo 2.
Game Freak.
Tecmo Koei.
Bandai Namco.

Are probably among the safest bests for known Nintendo developers and partners working on brand new projects that may be revealed at E3. However, GameFreak's titles usually are not announced at E3, so it probably will be absent, or they could just release something for next year altogether. Retro may need more time before it revealed its next project...

When Kirby's Epic Yarn was being made, the game was initially planned to be an original IP using prince fluff, an original character to star in it. While the dev team conceptualized making a colorful, yarn-themed art style in a happy-go-lucky game world with a relaxing sense of atmosphere and a low difficulty challenge to base the game around, they struggled with other aspects of the game's design. Coincidentally, Prince Fluff resembles the size and shape of Kirby. Kirby was used in...

Investors don't seem to really have any say in the kind of games Nintendo wants to make. All investors really care about is wanting the company to be profitable. It's up to Nintendo to come up with game ideas and peripherals (like amiibo) that consumers will likely want to buy. Nintendo also tries to be cautious with its development and marketing budgets. OF course, when it comes to flagship franchises and even potential new IPS Nintendo has faith in, they provide more marketing supp...

Nintendo already has numerous games coming out this year and more into 2016.

2015 still has Star Fox, Xenoblade X, Devil's Third, Fatal Frame, Mario Maker and Yoshi's Wooly World plus DLC for Smash Bros and Splatoon. Japan may also get Fire Emblem X Shin Megami Tensei this winter. Iwata told us recently that there are more new games to announce for Wii U and 3DS, games in which are releasing some time before April 2016. There's also various indie game releases com...

The only problem with Bloodborne at E3 last year is that the game's existence was leaked at the end of May prior to E3 in June. We knew the codename of the title was Project Beast, we knew From Software was the developer, we knew it was a PS4 exclusive and we even got to see brief video footage of it too. Kind of spoiled the surprise which was unfortunate.

Mario Maker got leaked too just before Nintendo's Digital event last year as well, but only because someone took...

Winning E3 is not about sales potential, it's about which platform holder had the most entertaining conference. Last year, Microsoft delivered a solid, cohesive conference with an adequate balance of new and old game announcements. Unfortunately, they didn't have much to show in terms of new gameplay footage, but the new games announced were appreciated by fans nonetheless.

Nintendo had a better balance of new and old game coverage, and unlike Microsoft, Nintendo sho...

Splatoon isn't aimed at the same target audience as Call of Duty, Halo or others such as Gears of War. It's aimed at appealing to Nintendo's dedicated audience. It's a competitive game that can have broad appeal like other Nintendo IPs such as Mario Kart.

Team Fortress 2 is a colorful, competitive cartoony shooter and yet people of different ages enjoy it, don't they ? The same can be said of Splatoon. You don't have to like Splatoon for its art style ...

I'm not sure I would saw Xenoblade X is innovative, but it is a fairly ambitious game. The title has numerous complex gameplay systems to it, and things like mechs add another layer to exploration, traversal and combat in a game that already made other considerable differences from the first Xenoblade 1, including its non-linear open game world. Whether it pulls it off well remains to be seen.

From what I have read of player import impressions of the Japanese versions, ...

It seems unlikely. Not only is Platinum busy with two other projects at the moment, but the developer rarely does sequels, Bayonetta 2 being the exception. Also, if another publisher wishes to do a Vanquish sequel, then like with Nintendo (with Bayonetta 2), they will have to make a publishing deal with Sega in order to obtain exclusive publishing rights to Vanquish. If Bayonetta 2 had a hard enough time finding a publishing partner according to Platinum Games, then certainly Vanquish 2 proba...

He's probably doing alright now. Iwata does have an upcoming sharerholders meeting the week after E3. Naturally, he also has more responsibilities because of his promotion to CEO of Nintendo of America. Nintendo's got a lot of things going on from new platforms in R&D to various 3DS and Wii U titles currently in development, new mobile games partnership, Universal Studios attraction project, more ammibo-related products on the way and other things such has the Quality of Life prod...

We probably won't see another Platinum-developed title on Wii U. Kamiya is working on Scalebound while Hashimoto is supposedly handling that new PS4 project. Scalebound probably won't even be out this year.

I would think that most people that are interested in the likes of Star Fox and Metroid already own a Wii U. Sales would hardly see much improvement from a Metroid title, albeit a short-lived one (similarly to even the bigger IPs already released on Wii U like Smash Bros, Mario Kart and Super Mario 3D World). As for Star Fox, it would have next to no impact at all.

It's unlikely Nintendo would announce a Wii U price drop at E3 when it has already announced the Splatoon console bundle for $300 which comes out at the end of May. Nintendo hasn't entered panic mode yet for Wii U, relying too much on various console bundles + digital incentives as an alternative option and flagship IP releases (Smash Bros and Mario Kart 8 from last year) which have not performed well enough to drive hardware sales to where they really need to be.

If ...
