Yeah, Iwata brought a lot of quirkiness and charm to the Direct presentations because he was one of a kind. A lot of fans would sure love to see the return of the Directs even though some obvious changes are necessary with Iwata no longer with us to serve as its primary host, but we'll have to wait and see what Nintendo comes up with next.

It seems very unlikely for Wii U to get an official price drop this year. We're just about in to November and Nintendo missed an opportunity to do a price cut with Super Mario Maker which is a bigger IP than Xenoblade and Animal Crossing on the home console. In the past, Iwata said Nintendo would rather try to focus on "achieving a certain sales volume of Wii U" at its current price point instead of trying to resort to a price cut when the console is quite frankly, not much of...

According to Satoru Iwata's statement from January 2013 below, there is no hybrid next-gen console. I don't know why some people keep thinking there is one when we've know about this for years now. We'll be getting a new handheld and a new home console just as Nintendo has always done. The difference is that this time, the architecture will be designed to be more similar and both platforms will use the same operating system so software development will be more streamlined.

It baffles me to read comments about some people thinking Nintendo will make a more powerful console than PS4. You've got to be kidding. Take a look at the following comments below, and tell me that's the company with an attitude that wants to be a direct competitor again.

"Expanding only on exiting hardware is dull." - Iwata, March 2015

"What the other companies are doing makes business sense, but it's boring. The same games appear...

There is no hybrid next-gen Nintendo console. Satoru Iwata told us this back in January 2013 when he explained Nintendo's future plans for the next generation's unified architectural strategy. Iwata also mentioned that work on next-gen integrated architecture already began sometime in 2012. Here's his statement:

"Last year [referring to 2012] we also started a project to integrate the architecture for our future platforms. What we mean by integrating platfo...

I bet NOA still feels the unprofitable sting from the Wonderful 101 and other games such as Bayonetta 2. NOA may not do everything we want it too, but localizing this Fatal Frame title is one of the things fans have asked for, so thanks for doing it at all. It's also nice to know that based on import impressions and recent embargo coverage of the English version of this Fatal Frame title, it has been receiving some positive coverage.

To be fair, Nintendo released a handful of games already this year, and we know about several projects for release next year from Nintendo's dev teams and dev partners:

EAD 1 - Mario Kart 8 DLC this year
EAD 2 - Splatoon + DLC & Animal Crossing: Amiibo this year
EAD 3 - Zelda Wii U delayed
EAD 4 - Super Mario Maker this year
EAD 5 - Star Fox: Zero delayed next year
EAD Tokyo - Confirmed work on new Super Mario title, but it ma...

Nintendo's problem with third party support isn't so much to do with matching or surpassing the hardware power of Sony and Microsoft platforms as well as offering architectural parity ( including support for new, more powerful game engines), but instead it's about the Nintendo fanbase generally lacking the target audience for third party AAA games and how Nintendo makes and markets games primarily for kids and families. It's an uphill battle for Nintendo from a marketing per...

One of the things Iwata had said about Wii U was that a price drop was not a priority because Nintendo felt it would try to achieve "a certain sales volume" on Wii U with its current price. Also, a price cut isn't Wii U's biggest problem. Of course, it would help, but the console's just not very appealing due to its GamePad which Nintendo has acknowledged due to the company's attempts to communicate its value to consumers. Some forget that GameCube had a price cut ea...

Wii U Deluxe is available to purchase in North America for $225 on Nintendo's online store. While the console is labeled as refurbished, they are in new condition just like retail versions, and they come with the same warranty coverage too. Also, the console now includes a copy of Nintendo land as well as Super Mario 3D World. Alternatively, you can just get the console bundle with Nintendo land for $200.

It's unfortunate but understandable why a lot of gamers enjoy Nintendo software in spite of the hardware you have to play it on. Nintendo wants to be different from Sony and Microsoft, which brings in fresh ideas, but also different risks while simultaneously failing to address the old problems. Wii and DS managed to overcome such issues, but 3DS and Wii U have not. Without the non-gamer audience around to make up the different in Nintendo's struggle in trying to attract more gamers t...

Xenoblade X is coming out in North America and Europe on December 4th. Unfortunately, I would keep my expectations quite low for the game's sales. I don't think it will sell anything worth writing home about regardless of potential glowing reviews (personally as hyped as I am to want to play Xenoblade X, I think it will definitely get lower score than he original Xenoblade, primarily due to its apparent lackluster story, controversial music (you know, the English rapping vocals) and ...

While it does look like Wii U's likely going to have software droughts next year, there's still a couple of confirmed game releases such as Star Fox: Zero, Pokken Tournament and Fire Emblem X Shin Megami Tensei. In addition, there is of course, Legend of Zelda (which will probably be a holiday 2016 title, but we'll find out likely by next E3). Also, Miyamoto recently confirmed Pikmin 4's development nearly being finished, and based on what he said last year about the future ...

Zelda isn't going to be the only title out for Wii U in the future. There's Pokken Tournament and Fire Emblem X Shin Megami Tensei (whatever the hell its name is now) as well. In addition, Miyamoto confirmed development of Pikmin 4 is close to being finished, and based on a comment he made back in November 2014, it sounds like it is for Wii U. Here's his comment on it:

"Continually launching campaigns after the release of software will lay the groundwork for ...

Retro Studios has a new game for Wii U in development since 2013. Nintendo producer, Kensuke Tanabe said so back in 2014. I suppose we may get an announcement for it at E3 2016, or earlier via Nintendo Direct.

I think 2016 will be a transitional year for Wii U. While there are some games coming out, Nintendo is not likely going to do much to greenlight more projects for it, meaning they would have done so already since development can take around 2 - 3 years to make games, un...

It's hard to tell how exactly it works, but you can find the E3 2015 trailer for it on Youtube. Apparently, new gameplay footage will be coming out some time in October as the game comes closer to its December release in Japan.

I think it will come out earlier than summer. After all, E3 this year was about games Nintendo plans to have out by Spring 2016. Besides, Nintendo needs to have a game come out between Q1-Q2 2016, and the only one game that could come out around this time is Pokken Tournament, a port of the Japanese arcade game.

Based on this following comment from Shigeru Miyamoto dating back to November 2014, I'd say Pikmin 4 is perhaps for Wii U.

“Continually launching campaigns after the release of software will lay the groundwork for the next iteration of “Pikmin” in the future. And needless to say, we want it to be one of the motivations for potential consumers to purchase Wii U. We are making a variety of different efforts.”

Then again, this is Nintendo, so it could be so...

The thing is Nintendo isn't chasing after hardware power, but even if Nintendo wanted more hardware power to attract PS and Xbox gamers, it still has big issues with demographics and marketing which present obstacles for it. These are things people seem to overlook. Gamers will likely remain hesitant to trust Nintendo after Wii U's failures with Wii U regardless of whether or not it abandons the Wii brand name in the next generation. Then there's third parties and how they only ...

All we know about NX is what Satoru Iwata said about it:

- its "a brand new concept"

It is very likely Nintendo's continued focus to change how we play games by innovating and differentiating its dedicated platforms from that of Sony and Microsoft's. Iwata's admitted that Nintendo is not a good direct competitor, and that Nintendo has been more interested in trying ot offer sa more unique console experience that does more than just offe...
