Nintendo has already confirmed the following general description for NX:
- a brand new concept
- a unique platform
- changes how we play games
- does not use the Wii/DS brand names
- does not plan to sell NX as a loss
- home console and handheld will be using integrated architecture in order to streamline software development between both platforms
It should not come as a shock to anyone when NX will very l...
People should remember some of the things Nintendo said back in 2014-2015:
" What we [Nintendo] are always striving to do is to find a way to take novel technology that we can take and offer it to people at a price that everybody can afford. And in addition to that, rather than going after the high-end tech spec race and trying to create the most powerful console, really what we want to do is try to find a console that has the best balance of features with the best int...
I wouldn't expect anything more than NX being on par with Xbox and PS4 in order to get the same third party software. Whatever gimmick Nintendo comes up with, it is naturally going to contribute to the manufacturing cost of the console, so it will find ways to keep costs down and likely continue to support things like being a more energy-efficient platforms like Wii U before i t. Lastly, Nintendo doesn't want excessive hardware power because it doesn't make the kind of games ...
You can't ask a family-friendly company like Nintendo to be grittier when its the kind of developer that doesn't even make those kind of games with any of its 1st party in-house Japanese teams. Pretty much only Monolith Soft as a 1st party subsidiary can could get away with that because its not working on mascot-based franchises.
I think the reality is Nintendo cannot beat Sony and Microsoft on their own turf. That market is clearly dominated largely and fiercely by Sony in this generation. I find it hard to imagine 50+ million gamers no longer being content with having their PS4 as their primary gaming platform with wanting to replace it with NX.
Nintendo ideally has to find a way to make itself a console that can be desired as a supplemental console to Ps4 and/or Xbox One with a mass market pr...
That's a good point you made. While Wii U clearly lacks the sheer software diversity offered by PS4 and Xbox One, it still has a good amount of games that are worth playing, and of course, practically all of them are exclusives. Regardless of whether someone has no interest in Wii U and its software, they should still acknowledge that its a platform that others appreciate and find worth owning for the quality over quantity of software it provides. Now with that said, Nintendo clearly mad...
Technically, Starfox: Zero is still a 1st party game because Nintendo's EAD team is the main developer of the project based on the game's credits. EAD handled the game's programming, voice acting, script and gameplay while Platinum worked onthe game's art assets along with some other outsourced companies such as BeeTribe, XAX Alvion and Teco. Platinum and T's Music company supposedly handled the game's music.
Anyway, as a PS4 owner, I do feel that PS...
Nintendo talked about how Wii U could technically support the use of two players using two GamePads at the same time, BUT Nintendo never said they would do it. Quite frankly, as Wii U's sales continued to underwhelm, it was obvious that trying to release Wii U titles that supported more than one GamePad would be a foolish business idea because it would mean a very small percentage of gamers that owned a Wii U would be willing to buy games that supported or exclusively required the use o...
It is a big problem for Nintendo to figure out a way to appeal to gamers beyond its own dwindling fanbase in the home console market. One thing we do know is that the next console won't be using the Wii brand name according to Nintendo's new president. Releasing a console on par with Xbox One and PS4 for $300 with a gimmick isn't likely going to do well enough when most gamers are content owning a PS4, and both Sony and Microsoft will continue to have more third party support whil...
Sad news to hear, but yeah, many of us never even knew Nintendo had a korean branch to begin with. Anyway, this isn't like Nintendo shutting down any of its 1st party studios.
I think even in the best case scenario, Nintendo will just provide Wii U with less than a handful of scattered 1st/2nd party game releases in 2017, so expect major software droughts. This way, Nintendo isn't shutting down Wii U entirely, but it clearly will have prioritized its development teams and dev partners to begin to make more games for next-gen platforms.
Nintendo's stayed true to its word of remaining committed to Wii U's software support in spite of Wii ...
Based only on what Nintendo has said about NX, the following is known about it:
- According to Satoru Iwata, as of last year, NX is a brand new concept
- By the end of last year, Tatsumi Kimishima confirmed that NX is going to deliver a unique console experience.
- As of last year, Shigeru Miyamoto defined Nintendo as a company by basically stating that Nintendo is about utilizing novel technology to deliver a unique console experience that...
I think it is fake. For starters, Nintendo already unveiled the Wii remote and Wii U GamePad at industry events before the patents for the controllers actually came out, so we didn't know what the really looked like. Nintendo's never had a complete image/description of its previous generation controllers leaked via patent release.
There were rumors about the Wii controller back in June 2005, but even despite the leak of a Nintendo patent to accompany it, none of the ...
I wouldn't expect any major information other than a likely confirmation of NX being released later this year (assuming it is even coming out in 2016), but no info will be revealed about it until E3. Nintendo will very likely reveal its plans for E3 in early June. Historically, Nintendo hasn't revealed and launched a new platform in the same year, but then again, Nintendo can surprise us with a change, so you never know!
SKU info, pricing and launch game lineup won&...
As great as Wind Waker was, I prefer Nintendo to experiment with new art styles because its one of the most refreshing and exciting aspects of the Zelda series. Of course, Wind Waker still remains the most beautiful of the 3D Zelda games to many of us, but hopefully unless Nintendo can wow us more with the new Zelda Wii U title's art style which in all fairness, we haven't had much of chance to get a real close look at it yet, especially in terms of gameplay. However, the initial res...
1. Nintendo will no doubt improve its online service as compared to what it offered on Wii U, but make no mistake about it that Nintendo will not attempt to match Sony and Microsoft's respective online services feature-for-feature.
2. Third parties will always be an issue primarily due to the fundamental issue of Nintendo home consoles generally lacking the target audience many third party IP are marketed towards. While some third parties are willing to take the risk, t...
Third party games generally didn't sell on Wii U not so much because of the challenges of software development, but much more so due to Nintendo's lack of a target audience for those third party IP. It's been a problem dating back to the GameCube which was more powerful and easier to develop for than PS2. Third parties endured developing for the PS2 simply because it had a larger install base with a generally more reliable target audience willing to buy their software, and so the...
People are just ignorant and impatient about how companies do R & D, and how long it takes for video games to be made. The preparations for marketing and unveiling new console products is obviously a massive and time-consuming undertaking, so have some patience because E3 is only 3 months away. Who knows, with Nintendo, it may choose to selectively reveal some more info about NX prior to E3 via Direct presentation. Also, Nintendo has already told us that NX will be a unique console that ...
I think we do need to keep in mind that some times these Directs offer nothing more than small nuggets of news and announcements rather than a gold mine of megaton announcements.
As a reminder, here's a summary of just some what Nintendo's top executives have said about the kind of company it is and what it wants to focus on and what it isn't interested in being a part of. Obviously, it becomes clear that Nintendo has been consistent about this throughout the course of this generation despite its failures with Wii U.
Satoru Iwata:
"Last year[ 2012] we also started a project to integrate the architecture for our fut...
