If you buy a Wii U, then you should know what your in for. Third parties can squeeze out all the hardware power they want out of Wii U for multiplatform titles, but its like squeezing a lemon and only have a little a bit of lemon juice come out of it. You're not going to see much of a difference between Wii U running games on current-gen engines compared to how they look on 360 and PS3. It's certainly not worth the effort if the Wii U versions of third party games don't have a goo...
Nintendo won't go third party anytime soon even if 3DS and Wii U were to be commercial failures. Nintendo is frugal with how it uses its resources. This includes its project development and marketing costs. It is also particular in what it chooses to invest in. It won't just buy any studio just to have another developer make games for them. They've established several successful 2nd party partnerships with studios they don't own such as with Next Level Games (Mario Strikers, ...
The concept of Off-TV play and utilizing the GamePad for displaying inventory/map/HUD is actually a big part of Nintendo's strategy. It is primarily designed to make traditional-style games more convenient to play. That is its main purpose. This is also important because third party exclusives are a dying bread, so Nintendo cannot realistically expect a lot of third parties to take the risk of making creative use of the GamePad, and to do so, would mean it would need to be an exclusive t...
I disagree.
Platinum worked on pretty much all major home consoles and handhelds in the last generation. So it is easy to see why they don't have a preference for next-gen consoles. So long as they can find a publisher willing to fund their projects with a good degree of creative freedom, then they'll want to work on any platform really.
Hopefully, Nintendo will work with Platinum in the future regardless of how the sales of Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2 turn out to be. The forme...
In terms of production values ? Rayman Legends is the clear winner over New SMB U. I haven't played local co-op for Rayman yet, so I won't comment on it. However, in terms of level design and platforming, New SMBU is superior (basing on it being the last Mario game released).
As much fun as I had with Rayman Legends, the game's level design just feels too choreographed at times. I mean, there's no room for the player to play the way they want to as far as the...
Being a second-party developer doesn't necessarily mean Nintendo would have to own Platinum Games. Platinum would just do what it is already doing with Bayonetta 2 and The Wonderful 101, by working under a publishing contract on a case by case basis. They'd still be free to make games for other platforms.
Anyway, it would be to a relief for Platinum to have the luxury of being financially backed by Nintendo if it were to be acquired by it.Nintendo has a history of no...
Well, the first Bayonetta game sold 1.35 million copies worldwide by March 2010, around 13 months after its release.
While Bayonetta is Platinum's best selling game, the developer admitted the title did not met sales expectations. The game landed in 17th spot on the NPD chart. As one of the 8 new games released that month, it was outsold by Darksiders, MAG, Army of Two and Mass Effect 2 (360 version). By the second month, it fell out of the top 20 chart.

Assuming Precursor is going to follow the same inventory system concept as in Eternal Darkness, it makes sense to put Shadow of the Eternals on Wii U because the GamePad can be used to display the inventory menu on. It means it won't interrupt the flow of gameplay by having to constantly pause the game in order to access the inventory system so the player can form and cast spells and select weapons.
It would be more intuitive and convenient to do it this way than to j...
I guess this project is next-gen vaporware now that the second kickstarter has failed. It's a shame, but it is what it is.
Why would Rare make this game for Nintendo? Microsoft owns Rare.
Nintendo generally releases 6 - 9 on the games home console games a year (including third party titles published by Nintendo). For this year, there's 7 confirmed games for release on Wii U. So far, there's 5 confirmed games for Wii U in 2014, not counting unconfirmed titles like Yoshi's Yarn and Fire Emblem X Shin Megami Tensei.
Xbox One's console design looks better than PS4's, and Wii U's looks better than both.
End of story.
I'm sure Nintendo will be just fine. This is their updated E3 plan:
- 1 hour Nintendo Direct
- Software Showcase recap video
(actual conference will be behind closed doors)
- 90 minute Pokemon X& Y conference
- Confirmed IGN interview with Satoru Iwata
- Confirmed 1 hour Game Trailers interview with Reggie & Miyamoto
note: Naturally expect more interviews with gaming sites and we'll likely see other thi...
Well, Watchdogs on Wii U will likely have more in common with the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions than versions of the PC, Xbox One and PS4. Most won't buy it on Wii U anyway due to the weaker graphics and not much of an enticing incentive as a trade off (beyond things like off-TV play). In addition, the timing of WatchDogs will mean it will go up against Nintendo's own big game releases, and as we all know, Nintendo gamers will be more supportive of Nintendo's software.
Yeah, I wouldn't expect any new game announcements for tomorrow's ND video either, but I'd still like to see new trailers for Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101, along with a release date for the latter. Hopefully, Nintendo will inform us more about the Summer system date.
Iwata said in January ND video that there are still some unannounced titles for Wii U to come out by the end of 2013. However, he didn't say if it was unknown if he was referring to 1st or third pa...
Maybe in terms of some virtual console releases, but Nintendo would never do it for dedicating resources to developing new titles for iOS.
Iwata said years ago that Nintendo wouldn't be Nintendo if it abandoned designing games on its own hardware. To the company, software development is just as important to it as hardware design. After all, that is why Nintendo is a console manufacturer. It contributed the most hardware innovations than any other platform holder to date. ...
Nintendo's reportedly done a lot of things to help indies out:
- Wii U dev kits are about the cost of a high-end PC
- no policy to screen game concepts of an indie's project
- faster certification approval process
- free patching for eShop
- self-publish (even if a title isn't exclusive to WiiU)
- no office requirement
- no unit threshold sales requirement
- improved Nintendo contact support
- Miivers...
Satoru Iwata commented on an achievement system in the past:
"I have not thought that offering the same features that already exist within other online communities would be the best proposal for very experienced game players.Nintendo has paid a great deal of attention to the dynamic of people playing video games together in the same room. With Wii U, we thought about expanding this concept into separate rooms which are connected online. Miiverse is a network community d...
Well, Metroid Prime is like sub-class FPS for being an unconventional FPS adventure game with things you don't often see in traditional FPS games like puzzle-solving and exploration.
People need to stop dreaming about this. Game Freak has consistently said it won't bring the core franchise to the home console. Pokemon MMO is one of those things that sounds better on paper than i does in execution.
