"But what good are all those OS features if there's no games to play. I buy a console for the basics, and those include playing games (and movies)."
I can't work out if your comment is pro PS4 or pro Xbox One. When you consider that, currently (ie. available to buy today and technical limitations aside), there is more choice on Xbox than PS4.
I have both systems and I own five exclusives for Xbox and one for my P...
@THC CELL
Considering most of the time people are saying that there's no point in buying an Xbox One because of the cost it goes against the grain to say people should spend a load more money on a smart TV that does less than it.
I own a smart TV - a very good one - it does nothing as well as the One and it cost about five times what my One cost. Yes, you can buy ones that are a lot cheaper but if you're very particular about the image your console pu...
Yeah, because I really want to have someone else, somewhere else, playing my PS4 and using my electricity.
People freak out when PSN is down for a few hours, are they really going to want to hand over control of their PS4 so that they can sit and do nothing? I don't think so. The disadvantages far outweigh the advantages. It's a badly implemented gimmick to get around the fact that no one will accept DRM in order to share physical copies of games digitally.

Whatever Rare have been working on aside, are you seriously saying that this "Jaw Dropping, Never-Been-Done-Before" project isn't that unless it does something that a game that we already know about does.
That's a paradox if true.
@MeliMel
It's a shame that the rushed Perfect Dark for the 360 launch killed the franchise. A reboot would be amazing.
"Never-been-done-before& quot; should mean that it's a new IP.
You need to take into account the native resolution of the display. Most tvs are 1920x1080. 900p is a lot closer to the native resolution than 720p and so the difference will be less perceivable to the eye of the viewer the closer to native the resolution is. Do you actually think that a 4k image on a 1080p display would look better? Because that would have to be true for the argument that more pixels is always better. The RIGHT number of pixels is best and the closer you are to it the better...
Yeah, that was the level that everyone used to groan at when it came around. It was intense though, so I can see where you're coming from.
Me too. I went through my list last night and had to cut it back a bit.
Before the end of the year I'm getting:
Shadow of Mordor - PS4
Forza Horizon 2 - X1
The Evil Within - PS4
The Last of Us - PS4
Super Smash Bros - Wii U
Grand Theft Auto V - X1
Halo MCC - X1
Assassin's Creed: Unity - X1
Bayonetta 2 - Wii U
My maybe list, depending on reviews and/or budget, is:

@Foehammer
I don't know whether you got that my comment was tongue in cheek or not.
Either way yours was entertaining. I'll give you a bubble for that. ;)
I was involved in a PlayStation lounge when the PS3 came out. We had about 50 PS3s connected to high end Bravia screens and it was all done with the blessing of Sony. The place was built to the highest standards and nothing was skimped on. Comfy chairs with headphones for every player and a good network and solid internet connection for tournaments and a coffee bar with a barista. We set up leagues and advertised professionally in the local press but it simply didn't take off. We even use...
@GodGinrai
Have you been to the Trocadero lately? It's like a weird indoor market with people selling fake Beats headphones and E-Cigs. There's a few dead arcade machines dotted around and that's about it. I think it sums up the state of the arcade scene in the West.
The only saving grace is that there is a couple of little shops that sell gaming collectibles from Japan.
I'm going to Franco Manca's on Saturday, I'll ha...
Ah, yes. Daytona while smoking a cigarette. Those were the days. I did used to find that the smoke got a bit too much in arcades but because it's banned now I kind of find myself missing it.
My strongest memories of arcades are spending hours on Tekken 2, memorising the commands to unlock secret characters and King's throw combos.
The other games that stand out are:
Street Fighter II
Virtua Fighter
Ridge Racer

It's because Microsoft are always laughing at the people that buy their products. They're not like Sony. Sony are for gamers where as Microshaft are only in it for the money and they try to take advantage of their customers. We need to stand up for ourselves, against this evil organisation. Of course all of the Xdrones will say that this is just funny or that it just means what it says but real gamers know that it's a huge insult.
At least that's the sentimen...
@MELMAN26
Exactly, this year is this year and next year is, well, next year.
In the here and now there is more that I want to buy on my Xbox. Looking to the future, there is more that I want to buy on PS4. I can't help it if that's the way it is right now and I don't really care. I play games and not brand loyalty.
If someone only has one platform then you can look at it two ways. Either you can be excited about what the future ...
@Septic
I think all of your comments here have been quite neutral.
I also agree with you. I own both systems and I'm buying more games on Xbox One than on PS4 this year. That isn't due to choosing one brand over another, it's simply that there are more exclusive games on the One than on PS4, that are worth my money, right now.
@spotie
I've been reading through and I'm yet to see the fanboys jumping all over it. For some reason there's plenty of people saying the kind of thing as you.
A bit insecure and I don't really see why people feel the need to run to Sony's defence and try to downplay something that never needed to be downplayed in the first place.
Online services go down, it's just what happens. No system or service is infalable. <...
The article is just saying that all of the network setup like matchmaking, data syncing and server connection is done in the background as well as loading the location you are going to.
I actually assumed this was the case and didn't realise that it wasn't apparent to a lot of people. When did they think it was doing all of those other things? It simply doesn't have all of those different screens that you get in other games. I'm assuming that is to make things...
Wii U has some amazing games. Nintendo are having to go the route they did with N64 and GameCube and I don't think that's such a bad thing. If you can't get good 3rd party support you have to go all out with your own software and that's exactly what we're seeing.
Yes, you said something that doesn't discriminate against either side of the fan wars.
This place is a joke.
Unfortunately, in a couple of years all of those people will have forgotten ever banging on about it and won't have learnt a thing. Still, we can hope.
