Well if this isn't marketing; I don't know what is.
Well, put it this way. Smash Bros was announced at E3 2011 and it's set to be released in 2014 - that's three years.
Brawl was announced at E3 2005 and released in 2008; that's also three years.
Coincidence?
Like any console; it has gone through its launch drought. PS3, 360 and 3DS seem to be getting a new game released every other week - but that wasn't always the case. The amount of games that were being released in their first 1-2 years compared to now is much smaller.
Nintendo has so far released 10 first-party titles on the system this year that they have created. Combine them with the three third-party exclusives that they've funded/published, then you have 8 first-...
When Nintendo suddenly loses the 16-billion dollars that they're sitting on - and that doesn't look like it'll stop growing anytime soon (thanks 3DS & 2DS) ~ then we can start talking about them going third-party.
But no. Let's not even go there - because they said it themselves; they'd rather go down and take their IPs with them than simply go third-party.
PS3 sold less than the PS2 - WAY less. PSVita has been a complete let-down and ...
Honestly; does it truly matter what's more powerful and what isn't? I don't care what's under the hood. I play games, not specs.
I'm not saying having a nice machine with beautiful games is a bad thing - I'm just saying it isn't some holy grail.
I don't care how powerful the machine is, or what resolution its running at. The most I care about is the fps. Other than that; if the game doesn't entertain me, and the console doe...
Well for me, it might be my only 8th-generation console.
Currently the games that are available on XBOX One and PS4, and the games that are announced to come don't interest me. Maybe if there are a few key titles that I simply can't get on Wii U come out on PS4, I'll probably try to obtain it, but for now, I'm good.
The commercial opens up with the lines:
Mom: "We already have a Wii."
Kid: "Wii U is an upgrade."
...Those two lines alone differentiate the Wii from the Wii U. If that isn't enough for people to get the memo, then I don't know what is.
This has to be the most straight-forward ad yet. I don't see what's the problem. You can't get more obvious than this.
The only franchise I like from EA is Need for Speed (I'd say Burnout as well, but they're basically killing off Criterion and sourcing all the team members to Ghost Games). Other than that, I really don't care for any of their IPs.
They can't blame the Wii U's smaller install for their games poor performance on the system.
- Madden and FIFA 13 were gimped.
- ME3 was a good port, but it was a franchise that was never seen on a Nint...
They've been down-hill from since the NES?
You mean the same company who is sitting on 16-billion dollars, who's the financially biggest video game company in the industry?
Yep, they're totally doomed.
With most electronics, it's always bad to buy it when it's first released.
It's a man-made product, meaning that there are more-than-likely bugs that need to be ironed out. Consoles are no different. The previously slow OS and freezing issues the Wii U had is an example. XBOX 360's RROD, anyone? Even PS4 is having its fair share of issues. These stuff happen.
My theory is: some people really just can't wait to get their hands on it. They R...
Shin'en blew me away with their 3 Wiiware titles. Seriously, those THREE measly titles look better than 95% of the system's retail library.
I have no doubts that between them, Nintendo and Nintendo's second-parties ~ some really dazzling visuals will erupt.
Here's my take on the designs of each of the 8th-Gen systems:
PS4 - Looks like an eraser and almost sort-of similar to the PS2. Nice design and size. Looks futuristic and serious.
XBOX One - Looks like a cable box the "XBOX" logo slapped on it. Not too much of fan of that take.
Wii U - Looks like a slightly larger modem or even external hard drive (I have a portable HDD that looks quite similar to my Wii U). Needless to say, it&...
Now, full unification. I'm talking;
- Purchasing a multiplat title on either eShop and getting a discount on the other version (like buying the Wii U version of Sonic Lost World and getting $20 off the 3DS version).
- Remote Play.
Things of that nature. That would be great.
While the designs look similar - it isn't anywhere near as similar as 3DS is to DS - and I sure don't see people getting confused between the two.
Tsk, tsk. Whatever, CNET. I only visit your site for the downloads. Couldn't care less about your "journalism". As to how a DVD-player, something that most people now own as an antique, scores higher than a 2012-video game console is beyond me.
But hey, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
In MY opinion ~ the Wii U is the best console that I've ever played (I've played most of them, Retro and modern.) It's also the second conso...
Would have worked in a similar fashion, except the Wii U Gamepad's limit is 30-ft from the consoles (with no obstructions). On the other hand, the Vita can stream games from the PS4 as long as it's connected to the Internet.
I get Nintendo's strategy here - this is similar to the 2DS - an entry-level console, for younger players.
This is a cheap way to get into gaming. Makes sense.
But I REALLY hope consumers will be able to realize that this IS a revision of the original Wii, and not the "new Wii". Hopefully this won't cause too much confusion for Wii U.
Surprisingly got my Wii U when I went on vacation last December. It has almost been a year, and I've been enjoying myself with it.
Won't be able to pick up another console for at least a year - nor do I want too. PS4 looks attractive, but ATM, there aren't any *MUST-HAVE* games (for me, personally) - to sway me to get it at launch, or a few months after. Maybe sometime later on.
XBOX One would also looks nice...If it didn't have the required K...
Almost a year in and this bloody question is still being asked?
Your parents come before you, thus they are "last-gen". You follow after your parents, so then you are "next-gen".
Generation deals with age - not power. The Wii U is the successor to the Wii, which was a 7th-generation console, thus the Wii U IS indeed "next-generation", as it IS a part of the new 8th-generation.
Power HAS NOT EVER defined what mak...
It is. Got it much earlier than I expected, too.
I've had it for almost a year and I've been loving it. It's not a crime to have fun with a system; even if the "core-gamers" don't agree that it should even be around.
It might even be my ONLY "next-gen" system. No, not because I worship a single machine like it's some god and declare everything else that isn't it or that doesn't come from the same creators is the...
