Dreamcast failed because it was the product of a company that kept flip-flopping around with their hardware and were nearly broke. The Dreamcast failed because it could no longer be supported.
Nintendo, on the other hand, is sitting on 16-billion dollars in the bank; a stack that isn't going to disappear overnight.
PS3 didn't sell and still hasn't sold anywhere near what PS2 did; does that make it a failure? No, of course not.

The Wii Remote was a "hindrance" if more than anything.
Many games didn't make proper use of it; mostly sticking to either sub-par motion controls or a whole lot of waggle.
The Wii U Gamepad is a standard controller, with a few extra bells-&-whistles; the biggest of course being the touchscreen. Take that out and you have yourself a sightly more advanced Pro Controller. Even if devs don't use the screen outside of stuff like maps, invent...
This is the heart of the system. That's the whole point of the "U".
Taking the Gamepad from the Wii U is like taking the Wiimote from the Wii or the two screens from the DS. It's what defines the system.
No console hits its stride at the beginning of it's lifetime. It has the launch-hype, then the launch, then it goes dormant for a while, before picking back up again.
That's been the case with basically every console launch.
2014 looks to be a year of strong, unit-pushing hardware for the system; so it should be interesting to see how much of an increase it will see. Nevertheless, I'm not counting it out until its successor comes in the next gene...
And had this opinion read: "It's time to Count Nintendo Out of the Next-Generation" ~ which song would you be singing?
Just askin'
Yeah, I did hear. Slightly Mad must have asked Shin'en how to use the Wii U's power properly; since they're obviously the wizards!
The thing is; I love it how people are simply going by the article title and not reading further in.
When Reggie said: "You need games" - he said, "You need games to continue selling your hardware". He wasn't implying that PS4/X1 don't have any games. He was stating that they (any console) needs a steady stream of quality titles.
He didn't say anything negative about either system, and people are still tripping-out.

This was just painful to watch. I had to cut and run after an hour-&-a-half. Had a headache before it began..got an even bigger one after watching it.
Can't wait to get this for Wii U next year.
Seriously looking good.
@Itachi83
Yes, to the mindless dude-bro fanboys who I am convinced press their faces to their screens analyzing every individual pixel like it's their job.
I was actually kinda excited for most of this week for this.
Big, big let-down.
That "drunk" camera-man must have really been drunk. Seriously; was that thing even on a tri-pod? Annoying fillers in between reveals just made it seem more cheap than the set-up.
I could only stand the first 1-hour and a half before cutting the stream. That was awful.
How can they cut the price any further? It's only been a year.
Of course the PS3 and 360 are cheaper and have a bigger game-catalog. They've both been out for nearly 10 years!
Oh, you want them to just blow all the years of R&D they spent making the console, all the marketing they put into it, all the games that they've already made/making for it, and most of all; ditch the approximate 4-million users of the systems, who just shelled out $300+ for a year-old system?
Tell me in which REALITY does that make any sense?
NES, SNES, PSX, PS2, Wii, DS and 3DS were all outclassed by the rival consoles of their generations, yet they...
While you do have a point; what the article is trying to state is that the Wii U hasn't been as overshadowed as everyone and their dog have been proclaiming.
Even if it's still being partially dwarfed by the new system launches; it still has some fury.
Awesome!
And the approvals are just trickling in...Seriously; does this website have a hatred for GOOD news relating to anything except PS4?
I find it amazing how an article like this barely gathers any viewers; but had this read: "Wii U Consoles Plummeted in Japan" - probably would have gotten approved in less than 2 hours, and with a heat level of at least 300-500.
Regardless; good news.
No need to be. N already announced months ago they'd be looking for another plant, as soon as this one announced it was having issues.
De-Nile is a river in Africa.
Looks like Activision has been swimming in it.
Have the launch of the new systems slowed it down? Naturally.
Is it the end?
No sir!
I find it funny how people are carrying on here, just because it's a Nintendo exclusive; yet it's the same people who love to preach how third-party title 'XYZ' isn't coming to Wii U.
Many games miss Nintendo systems; and those that come, are usually the half-baked version. Nintendo goes ahead and funds a project that MORE-THAN LIKELY WOULDN'T EVEN EXIST, and it's a problem? What?
Pardon me; but what happens when a Nintendo console...
