That's about the dumbest thing I've ever read on this site (and that's saying a lot). No offense to you, but, good grief dude.
If someone is on the fence about buying the system: hop on over to your local Walmart/Best Buy/Target/Gamestop and use one of the demo kiosks! If you can't then watch some gameplay footage on YouTube (not the same experience, but still)
If there's a working emulator (this doesn't qualify yet but who knows how...
-- Inb4 the 'Zelda NX' chants --
Just want to remind you of that Nintendo Direct from two months where right after Twilight Princess HD was announced, Reggie outright said "The Legend of Zelda for Wii U".
The only reason the idea of the NX releasing came about is because so many gamers in the community and a good chunk of the media have been *assuming* that's the case. Nintendo hasn't even formally revealed the console yet, and they've never done a proper reveal with a release in the same year.
Really hope they stick to this.
Ever since Iwata mentioned the existence of the NX, so many folks have been chanting: "Down with Wii U!" You people have to remember a little company called SEGA who tried to do the whole: "Oops, this didn't work out. Can we try this again?" maneuver.
Consoles aren't like phones/tablets. You don't just phase them out one after the other and expect millions to keep buying it. These things are long...
As a writer for Nintendo Enthusiast, I can tell you that is a bit exaggerated. We've been trying our best to balance out our postings so that we don't come across as overly-zealous.
Have you forgotten that next year Nintendo is launching 'My Nintendo'? It's going to be completely cloud-based.
Nintendo reconfirmed (for the umpteenth time) that it's "Zelda Wii U" in their latest Direct right after the Twilight Princess HD reveal.
Thanks for pointing that out; it was edited.
"InB4" the "Wii U is Dead!" comments.
I'm an early adopter of the system. I got it earlier than expected; December of 2012 while I was on vacation. I must say that I've had an exceptional amount of fun with the system. I own 13 retail games and as well as a dozen or so indie-titles, and I love each and every one of them.
It's been 3 fun years, and I can't wait for Year 4!
This is starting to sound like Slightly Mad's Project CARS situation all over again.
The Wii U version was crowd-funded, not to mention that several indie games have ran quite fine on the system. Since this is using Unity, and Unity supports the console fully, I hope it isn't that much of a problem.
That Direct only showcased games for this year and the first half of next year (excluding Zelda U). We don't know anything past the summer.
I don't want to get too hyped just in case we only get updates on titles we already know about (StarFox Zero, Mario & Luigi Paper Jam, etc.) — Not that I wouldn't mind that; I just hope they actually announce some new stuff and genuinely surprise us.
Either way, happy to see the series finally return! It's gonna take some real getting used to not having Iwata with is signature "Directly to you!" chant and pose, but, the show must go on.
There are so many great titles for the Wii U, not to mention the huge amount of specials that are one right now because of the Holidays.
You won't regret it.
This new Zelda has been in development since 2012, so that's roughly 3+ years. For it to come to the NX, that means that:
A.) The architecture must be similar, thus resulting in an easy shift.
B.) The Gamepad-oriented gameplay would have to be compensated somehow
I just don't see it happening. Twilight Princess was brought to the Wii as a big launch title. The Wii and GC were very close in architecture, so porting was stupidly simple...
That's insane. Just goes to show that the system is more than capable of producing some huge games; which is why it's such a shame the likes of GTA: V or Fallout 4 never graced it. Not to mention the Gamepad is a total beast when it comes down to open-world games (Lego City Undercover says hi).
I'm tempted to pick this up.
NMS is in a completely different class. All of it is randomly generated; so there's a possibility that it may even end up getting repetitive after a while. Not knocking the game, mind you — just saying it can't be compared.
I've thoroughly enjoyed Splatoon since I bought it.
I actually got it back in September, so I really can't say I've experienced the "big change", but I can definitely say this it's as addicting as Super Smash Bros and Mario Kart; and that's a very good thing.
This is embarrassing.
The producer made this statement all the way back during E3 this year. Why is this being brought up again?
But the Wii U really was a new experience. Honestly, despite all the flack that it gets, the Gamepad is a really great addition, especially with certain titles like Pikmin 3 and Lego City: Undercover.
At the end of the day, I've had a lot of fun with the system, and I'm still doing so, which makes me all the more excited for whatever the NX is — as long as they do it right.
Emulating retro titles is one thing (well, considering most of them are being recreated, it still isn't right) but a modern console is totally different.
Emulated games never feel the same. I used to play a lot of N64 and Dreamcast, as well as GBA titles emulated and they just felt like fun distractions, not actual experiences.
If anyone was "unsure" about the Wii U, then use a demo kiosk. If you can't, then watch some footage on YouTube. If...
