The holiday shopping season is starting, so this is when companies will be most competitive. My eyes are on other things, but the pricing is really good!
If you read the article, you would see that my reason for getting it is that I really needed the portability. I wish laptops were upgradeable, though.
@InKnight7s
Wow, you people on this site will look for ANY way to spin something, won't you? I honestly get a kick as to how overly-dramatic this community. Seriously, what is you guys' personality in the real world? My goodness...
As a proper response to your original comment...
1.) I can see not including a charger as a gripe, but they're so easy to get - what's the big deal? Microsoft still uses AA batteries for the ...
"You can call me a ‘Nintendo apologist’ or say that I’m damage-controlling all you want, but the reality is that it’s just not a big deal at all that some Switch games will require a microSD card."
^ Literally right there in the article description. Maybe try reading the full story and not just the headline and site name.
I may be incorrect but I think the maximum size for Switch cartridges is 32GB. You may very well be right that cost is a factor for why the capacity is not bigger; for whatever reason memory/storage technology is very pricey.
Technically the cost IS being passed onto the consumer by means of the required microSD card, but since this format is so plentiful the prices are relatively fair.
It's called an imperfect product. There's always a chance with any given item, whether "cheap" or expensive to have issues. On that note, Nintendo did not cheap out on the parts for the Switch, there are just a few defective units.
Show me a console with a failure rate of 0% and then I'll accept your viewpoint.
I wouldn't all this "nickel and diming". Look at the design of the Switch—it's very similar to a tablet. What do tablets use for memory? Flash storage and microSD cards.
Memory typically isn't very cheap. Nintendo could have definitely added more than 32GB, but that would have driven up the price significantly. We see that all the time with smartphones, for instance. Ironically enough, I don't see anyone complaining about having to buy microSD card...
There's a reason why they're called "Opinion Pieces"—they're articles where the author gives their point of view on a matter. Everybody's free to speak their opinion. In fact, you did just so with this comment; you have a negative opinion towards others who want to share their opinion.
Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that anyone has to stop or that "nobody cares". Everybody has a right to speak their mind. If you don...
1.) Nintendo has gotten a TON of flack since the Wii days for making weaker hardware. That has not stopped, especially on this website.
2.) The Switch launched in 2017 for $300. The PS4/Xbox One launched in 2013 for $400 and $500, respectively. The PS4 Pro just launched last year for $400 yet again and the Xbox One X is about to launch at $500 yet again. "Highest price"? I think not.
3.) People have been bashing Nintendo left and right for the p...
@SuperChiller
I'm not the author of this article. It was Brett, the Editor-in-Chief of the PlayStation Enthusiast team. I wasn't even the one who posted the article here.
Just because you're unhappy with Nintendo's business practices doesn't mean that there's something wrong with it. Having three companies all chase after the same goal wouldn't be the best situation. As a result, Nintendo has taken a different route and tries t...
If you actually did some research, you'd see that the articles posted on Nintendo Enthusiast are a mixture of both praise as well as more pessimistic pieces. We have different writers on the team, all of which have different tastes. Some are more critical than others. The fact that this article in particular was written by our Editor-in-Chief over at PlayStation Enthusiast should show you that there's NO bias here. In fact, it couldn't be more UNBIASED aside from our site name hap...
You've already been shut down in this comment section, but I just gotta ask man: are you paid for this?
I see you in almost every Switch-related post that appears on this site, trying to spew negativity. Like, seriously, did Nintendo hurt you in some way? Did a family member die while playing their Switch or something? I gotta know because I honestly can't fathom why you would spend so much time trying to throw hate at the system and company CONSTANTLY.
...
Way to oversimplify it, man. In that case, I can do the same with the other systems. What's so special about the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X? They're just gimped PCs that can't be upgraded—where's the innovation in that?
See what I mean?
Nintendo stopped trying to push the envelope in power back in the days of the Wii and DS. That was only 11 years ago; every Nintendo system prior was either as powerful or more powerful than their competitors. ...
@prankster101:
Please tell me in which universe is it plausible to make a comparison between a highly-realistic looking game such as Uncharted to something like Super Mario Odyssey? In no way shape or form does Oddyssey have the same graphical elements as a game like that.
Secondly, I specifically mentioned Mario, not Zelda. I know of the Zelda E3 2011 Tech Demo; I did already mention in an earlier comment that "Nintendo could do this style if it wan...
@MVGeneral
I could season a box of fries with the amount of salt in your comment, lol.
Keep in mind that up until the Wii, all of Nintendo's systems were either on par or beyond their competitors. The company changed its design philosophy to that of creating affordable hardware instead of advanced hardware, which is why the Wii, Wii U and Switch have not been powerhouses. Even so, Nintendo has learned a thing or two over the years.
...
Perhaps. It's a model, not an entire system. Since the Xbox One S and X are still around, that just might keep the value of the OG model down.
Not really seeing your point.
The resolution is hard to notice on such a small display. Not to mention it helps extend the battery life. That's why Nintendo and Nvidia decided to keep everything capped at 720p while in portable mode. When the Switch is docked, it then outputs to 1080p, which many of its games are natively rendered in.
But, at the end of the day, your opinion mate.
As someone who bought a gaming laptop a year ago (Lenovo Y700), I can say that it's definitely nice to have a decent gaming rig that can also be carried around. Even so, I don't see it as a full replacement to consoles. I still don't mind playing on consoles since the games are usually optimized. With my laptop, I've ran into problems like driver issues and having to tweak the graphics settings in some games just to make sure performance stays smooth. All of that is to be expe...
No, that's not the same scenario.
The Switch has home console-quality exclusives in addition to full multiplatform games like FIFA 18. The 3DS offers a very different experience. Nobody is going to expect the 3DS to be a full replacement to a home console, unless that person doesn't have much interest in home consoles in the first place.
The Switch uses flash memory, which is very expensive. If more than 32GB were added, then the Switch could have possibly costed at least $350. You already have some people complaining about it costing $300, so I'm sure that would have sparked even more negativity.
$14 will get you a 32GB microSD card. $40 will get you an even better 128GB card. It's a simple, affordable solution.
People have to buy extra storage for PS4, Xbox One and even PC. Whe...
