The Game Gear was superior, though it was mostly just a portable SMS, people usually complain it was too big.. yeah I don't think that mattered much since the Gameboy was basically a brick on its own.

I mean.. the hardware survey also shows stats like 1080p screens being mostly used, it's not indicative of what hardware enthusiasts use really, and when it comes to GPUs it's mostly low end bottom of the barrel stuff, granted these days higher pricing and stagnant performance in the mid range doesn't really help there.

This guy works on rumours as well as stuff he's found in files.. so it's not 100% trustworthy, it would not surprise me if Valve are working on something new with even better physics and realistic systems for heat/cold and interaction though, Valve like to raise the bar like HL2 and in turn DM and Garry's mod did in 2004.

What's the most disappointing rumour is that they're not really gonna upgrade the graphics, I hope they don't cater to people with...

Stalker games in the past have always been fairly heavy on the hardware AFAIK, I remember playing one of them but didn't really get into it, I also thought performance could've been better considering how the game looked... didn't blow me away like Half Life 2 did.

I'll be looking out for the higher end RTX 5000 cards early next year but not so much for games this time, more for the apps I wanna tinker around with.

You were either too young to play it when it came out or too young now.

HL2 alone was worth building a good PC for back in 2004, then you had HL2 Deathmatch and Garry's Mod soon after which gave a ton of multiplayer fun on top of it.

Nothing came close for years in comparison with HL2 in terms of environment interaction and physics either.

Yeah most likely, even if it's not called HL3 that's surely what it will be.

Lmao comparing multiple CPU gens past Zen 2 for it to compete with the Pro ..

The Pro is using a cheap sub 100 processor, the same one that's in the PS5.

It will run into limitations with CPU heavy games.. GTA 6 will show this up with little doubt, then what will people say about it not being "optimized" or some other bullshit to avoid saying the CPU is underpowered.

Mario Kart has been lacking a good SP mode since the 64 version, it was acceptable for the time kind of, but DKR did it much better. Hard to believe that Nintendo has given Mario Kart such little content in comparison, it has a good amount of tracks for the standard races but that's it. There's only so many times you can play it and then find it is a bit shallow..

People were saying that the Pro is like a 4070, obviously not, but you can get a close equivalent AMD card right now (RDNA4 and RTX 5000 early next year) and a much more recent and better CPU, overall system cost just a few hundred more than the PS5 Pro minus the cost of the disc drive.

People make out the Pro to be superior to a decent PC, it's not. It's good, but PC is still better overall. See DF's latest video, 4070 20+ fps faster than Pro, better RT (Pro is lower than the low setting on PC) and Pro has a fair amount of shimmering on the floor, and CPU bound games will show the same limitations as the original PS5.

Looks like the budget cards will be overpriced, well.. most of em'.. I remember buying 2 8800 GT's for just over £300 for both new. Prices really have rocketed a lot.

Thing is if you want to use AI apps and all the other features then you can't beat Nvidia for that, AMD have some good options in the midrange for the cash tho. Nvidia are looking like they gonna skimp on VRAM again for their 5060 and 5070 which might make them meh cards unless you're @ 10...

Parents mostly just hand their kid a PC/phone or whatever and let them go online unsupervised, that's some of the reason why you get so many screeching abusive morons in games.

I am against authoritarian laws (Aus/UK similar when it comes to "free" speech) but the parents obviously can't control their kids or don't want to.

Cool trailer, I think this is supposed to be very short, unless I'm thinking of another fan project.

I wonder what Valve have done or are going to do with Source 2 for their next games, heavily upgrade it for the visuals to push forward? Skip to Source 2.5 or 3? HL2 was super interactive compared to everything else at the time, if they can do that + more (rumoured) as well as make the game a graphical showcase then it's going to be an exciting time for fans of the s...

"better optimised" yea that's why a low power device like a Deck can run Switch games much better.

True, consoles have better optimisation to a point, but it doesn't make weak hardware super powerful, it's just nonsense.

But if you have a 5+ yr old GPU then it needed upgrading like a year before at the latest.. like a last gen console is gonna run games like ass <30fps and low res at 6-8 years, most likely.. so i mean neither wou...

And some people probably only have a Switch as their main console, imagine buying a new multiplat game and it runs at 30fps with stutters and shit... And they charge you more for the game to boot.

This thing should've come out like 2 years ago, minimum.

441d ago 3 agree15 disagreeView comment

I mean if you only upgrade once every 5+ years and only buy cheap lower end stuff or mid range at best then that basically goes without saying..

Keeping current means buying every 2-4 years on average, especially if you're buying mid end, but that can be a good way to stay up to date.

It also depends how much uplift there is on the CPU and GPU side, meaning just one or 2 gens later could see big performance bumps.

It would need to have something like an RTX remix touch up to look noticeably better, a bit like they're doing with Half Life 2.

444d ago 1 agree0 disagreeView comment

Even so I wouldn't recommend it. I've seen a few people on YT look at big (ish) 8k screens and say the difference is minimal, like Linus, he said trees in the background looked a bit sharper and that was about it, and it cuts into performance big time.

Probably reaching diminishing returns, I don't doubt there's a difference but if it's tiny then it's almost pointless. It depends how close you sit to your screen as well, like I only went 4k 165hz wit...

Except mid range AMD cards seem to be doing decently in UE5 if on a budget, for a few hundred more than the PS5 Pro you could easily build a better system with a noticeable jump, like by using a more recent CPU that you could import cheap from AliExpress or something.
