Took a long while to get to CRT levels of motion clarity, while 120hz screens were nice in 2012+ they still couldn't match the levels of CRT.

Kind of baffling why they ditched CRT in the first place except for the fact that they were bulky, and I don't know enough about the technology to know if it were possible to make them both slim and lightweight.

This technology look very promising though. I was checking out the new dual mode 6k/3k screens an...

They might come in cheaper than expected with good competition in the space, from China etc. Similar to how we have good Android phones at reasonable prices. They'll probably be fairly pricey though at first, guessing in the region of 20-30k, but who knows maybe pricing will come down fairly quickly.

It will be interesting to see how that AVA compares to the Dipal, both look like fun products.

I want an actual robot companion though, I know I'm gonna get some flack for saying so but i hope robots get as advanced as LLMs in their abilities over the next few years, that would be pretty damn amazing.

I'm already eyeing a Jenny Wakeman replica home robot... Well someone had to say it.

I still blame Steam for killing off physical games, just my opinion.

I'm selling most of mine since they're basically pointless owning now, and many of them aren't worth that much anyway. And I mean PC only.

The older ones that are Steam activated might as well just be thrown in the bin... Almost, unless you have a slow/limited net connection and really need it for a reinstall.

Collusion has happened before between companies in the RAM space, ups & downs in prices. All the clueless just want to blame AI, so many angry people it's actually funny, instead of doing their own research they just instantly go "AI taking all the RAM, AI bad" when manufacturers have literally put a statement out saying they refuse to increase production in case "the AI bubble pops" and there is a massive oversupply.

Even if it does pop, the eco...

Except if you had done any research into the matter you would know that the blame doesn't rest solely on AI data centres.

RAM manufacturers simply refuse to increase production to meet demand of everyone, including the public..

People with ancient hardware had lots of opportunities to upgrade when DDR4 was dirt cheap, DDR5 had been reasonable for a while. Now even SSDs are like double the cost what they were only some months ago.

Well.. There are good things and bad things that will come from AI, one of the most bullshit ones will be (I almost guarantee it) automatic comment moderation on various websites, good AI models understand vague hints towards meaning.. they literally understand the context from my experience most of the time and it can be quite surprising. This will be used to censor speech even more in countries already trying their best to restrict it, I just know it. I wouldn't be surprised if some for...

I agree that too much of something is not always good, however.. Valve sat on their ass for years and years with Source 2.

They were raking in money and didn't want to fix it, we saw demos of Source 2 leaked over a decade ago, and they took ages to do stuff with it.. so much that Alyx wasn't even top tier graphics wise, now they did dumb it down a bit graphically on purpose for it to run better for VR.. but what else have they done except for that? A card game and ...

I mean.. Sony screwed over early adopters of the PS5 Digital version by not allowing external disc drives, or even the add-on to work with it. So.. who knows.

They might have a tool to help shape landscapes and areas faster, or with AI help included.

Shorter development time doesn't always mean less changes.

Games during the 64 days were made in 2-3 years tops, and look at Mario Kart World.. that was made in 8 years and while it has a decent track selection the open mode is basically a giant desert lacking content..

Long development time doesn't always mean lots of content.

Yeah RAM has been cheap for a while up until recently, same for SSDs and even CPUs, you could get a cheapy 8 core Zen 4 processor from Ali Express for the past 1-2 years as well.

It's all about buying at the right time and finding good deals.

Yes, the issue is that you can't always trust the minimum requirements to give good performance, even though it should if using low settings or whatever those requirements are based on.

If playing a game, you usually want to be at least between minimum and recommend or above IMO, for the ideal experience anyway.

At the budget end of the scale the console is usually going to win, and in these days where hardware is more expensive especially so.

Probably because it'll be aimed at those who want super simple plug & play, no matter how little fuss might be involved otherwise. But it's kinda too gimped anyway.

I would wait for prices to come down unless you already have decent hardware and just build your own system. Or only buy soon if you spot a good deal on parts.

As long as Valve don't gimp their newer games because of this fairly low end steam machine I'm fine with it. People can hold onto 5-6+ year old hardware if they want but they shouldn't expect to run newer demanding games well or at all at that point if it's mid class hardware.

Don't forget Steam probably got a ton of survey results from some countries running some basic office PC and running some esports games or something.

Meh.. I and many others still need Windows for plenty of other apps that I like to use as a hobby, no chance I would ever ditch it unless a direct replacement comes along.

If talking gaming only, maybe? It's not for me.

Not familiar with this series but if I had to hazard a guess there's probably a good amount of ecchi (soft core) stuff in it that the censors don't agree with. Unsurprising for anime based content as a lot of it is aimed at older teens & adults, if they're concerned about kids playing and seeing something they shouldn't then that's the parents fault tbh.

Yeah this isn't aimed at people looking for power.. it's a lower end device. It's a plug & play solution for clueless people or those who want simplicity I assume.

It's a small box so you're not going to get anything very powerful in it anyway because of cooling limitations. That said, the CPU is decent, the rest is lacking.

You can build a compact Mini ITX system but I'm not sure on Steam OS as I've never used it. Also I t...

It's also a pretty low spec one. The CPU is pretty good (Zen 4, 6 core) but they screwed up quite a bit by having 8GB video memory, that was a decent amount when the 3060Ti launched and for maybe 2-3 years, but not today.

Graphics performance itself is.. okay, barely. I think DF said it's similar to a PS5 in that respect. But it's lacking overall system RAM as well, 16GB was the standard but these days it's more like 32 being recommended minimum.
