The comparison video you saw was a direct attempt to make the 360 version look inferior by exploiting the texture glitch that the 360 version can sometimes suffer from.
According to everyone up until Uncharted 3's review (coincidence?), IGN was the least credible review source, biased against the PS3, and you couldn't spell ignorant without IGN.
I have to agree with them about GTA IV. The level of depth and detail to the game still blows me away to this day.
What a waste of that $10 credit.
How it will look like?
Grammar fail!
I blame Saints Row. I hear they beat the driver with sex toys before fleeing with the truck.
I'm not sure what the writer of this article is talking about... GTA IV's DLCs were only "side quests"? WTF? TLAD and TBOGT were practically full games on their own, with their own characters, storylines, and more content than many full retail games. They are the definitive downloadable content of this gen and the highest rated as well. At $20 each, there is no better value in DLC.
I don't know if I'll like this after id's last title, RAGE.
It still blows me away how much detail Rockstar has been putting into their environments since GTA IV, and now more than ever with GTA V. There is so much intricate detail in every square foot of the city, it really brings the world alive like no other open world game.
I imagine the bold, new direction may be the multiple protagonist angle we have been hearing a lot of rumors about. In the trailer, there are at least three characters that keep appearing again and again in different shots and in one shot they appear to all be together getting out of that bug spray van. Could there be three protagonists whose stories all intersect but together in one game, instead of one game plus 2 DLCs like with GTA IV?
The same incredible level of detail in the environments, the most realistic and believable open world city, groundbreaking physics, unrivaled production values and polish, and an insane amount of depth to the game's world.
Same as GTA IV, except even larger and more ambitious. I'm ready to be blown away again, Rockstar!
You're right about L.A. Noire. The map appeared in its entirety on all three discs. It was the MotionScan facial animation technology that took up all the space.
Gears of War 3 is packed to the brim with so much quality content; it would be hard to find a more complete game. So I find nothing wrong with the DLC, especially with the perfectly sound reasoning Rod gave. The only thing I didn't like was how much Epic charged for the weapon skins at launch, but that doesn't really affect the game, so whatever. Now if a game felt like it was lacking content and they charged for on-disc DLC, then I would be pissed!
The Xbox had a much bigger "advantage in performance" over the PS2 than the PS3 has over the 360, but the PS2 was by far the best console of last gen. It doesn't mean much.
There's not really much of a rivalry here. GTA is simply light years ahead when it comes to just about everything; graphics, physics, depth and detail, storytelling, dialogue, multiplayer, and so on. The production values and polish of Rockstar's games are pretty much unrivaled.
It's dumb to narrow it down like that. Unlike in 2009, there is actually competition for GOTY this year. There are many titles scoring over a 90 on Metacritic that have a great chance at taking the crown, and still quite a few unreleased ones.
-LittleBigPlanet 2
-Portal 2
-Gears of War 3
-Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception
-Batman: Arkham City
-Forza Motorsport 4
-Deus Ex: Human Revolution
-L.A. Noire
Unless they use MotionScan like L.A. Noire, which is highly unlikely, why would it need to be more than one disc?
Obviously, the size of the map does not translate directly to disc size. L.A. Noire was 3 discs simply because of the MotionScan facial animation technology. The map appeared in its entirety on all 3 discs, and it was one large map!
Aside from that, audio is what takes up the most space. Cutscenes take very little space because Rockstar does all their cutscenes with the game engine. No pre-rendered HD cutscenes here.
And Skyrim has a giant, detailed map with ...
Should average at least an 85 on Metacritic. Looks pretty decent.
It's far better than having hundreds of no-name blogs' poorly written reviews included in the average. Only known publications who have a history of well-written reviews are included, and the same publications are included for every game. They do not pick and choose reviews for each game. There is a set list of reviewers. At least this is how Metacritic works. I am not as familiar with GameRankings.
