Very funny. A good way to deal with all the ridiculous rumors we've been hearing lately. A smart person takes them with a grain of salt and waits for real information before making their judgment.
The "lackluster" highest-rated game of this gen?
It may not have sold as well as previous Gears games with its lack of marketing, but it still sold better than 90% of games that are releasing these days. $0.25 has to be a mistake. I bet even Duke Nukem Forever would trade for more than that! :P
Microsoft charges for Xbox LIVE because they CAN. The service is established and has a far superior user interface that is streamlined and simple to use, as well as countless features and apps missing from PSN. PS+ was Sony experimenting to see if their users would pay for a subscription. Next gen, it's painfully obvious that the Gaikai streaming and other new features Sony is pushing with the PS4 will be hidden behind the PS+ paywall. And of course Xbox LIVE will continue to be a paid se...
You must buy very few games then...
Exclusivity does not affect my anticipation for a game at all. I like the franchises and genres I like regardless of what platform they are on. I love Forza Motorsport not because it is a 360 exclusive, but because it is a deep and fun racing game. Ni No Kuni being a PS3 exclusive does not increase my interest in it. I dislike JRPGs so I would not care about it no matter which platforms it was on.
The only good thing about ...
Amazing how they tripled sales of the original Xbox and tied their biggest competitor who outsold them 6 to 1 in the previous console cycle. The Xbox 360 has been such a huge success for Microsoft. It has made "Xbox" a household name synonymous with gaming.
Great article. Crackdown is still one of my favorite 360 exclusives. Shame about the sequel.
Except unlike this gen where PlayStation had about 6 times the fan base of Xbox going in, this time they have about equal fan bases so it will be a real fight.
Just like you'll be paying for PS+ to use any of the PS4's new streaming services.
Fading away? How? 2012 was the best year yet for Xbox LIVE Arcade, in my opinion. We had Trials Evolution, Dust: An Elysian Tail, Mark of The Ninja, Spelunky, Fez, Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition, and so on. Journey was brilliant, but it was the only really notable PSN exclusive in 2012. XBLA has a much broader and more diverse catalog of games. There's no denying that.
There's nothing wrong with being a PlayStation fan. There is something very wrong with bashing other people simply because they are not a PlayStation fan or mention even the slightest criticism of your console.
Microsoft has their policy that a game has to release on the 360 simultaneously with other platforms, or it can not release on their platform. This is why you don't see more PS3 timed exclusives. Developers will either hold back to release at the same time (Final Fantasy XIII) or go exclusively with PS3. Sony requires bonus content if a game releases late on the PS3, so you will still see games like BioShock or Mass Effect 2 coming over late like hand-me-downs. If Sony is smart, they will...
The rumors never end!
They have a much bigger advantage going into next gen over this gen: brand awareness. Xbox is now a household name synonymous with gaming. This gen they were the underdog, yet they managed to tie the PS3 in sales despite the power of the PlayStation brand. They tripled sales of the first Xbox and stole tons of market share from Sony. Now Xbox is as strong a brand as PlayStation. Who knows what will happen next gen, but it will be a fair fight on even ground this time!
It's rare I say "what the ****" out loud when reading the news, but this article totally took me by surprise. What the ****?!
The helicopter in the top left box has always been tradition. Of the modern era GTAs, only the Chinatown Wars boxart does not have it there:

Might pick up Trials Evolution.
I prefer the somewhat new direction Rockstar has taken with the GTA series this gen. Last gen with San Andreas, GTA was the jack of all trades but master of none. It tried to do everything and pack in as many features and side activities as possible. While this gave players a ton of stuff to do, the quality was very inconsistent and a lot just felt like filler.
With GTA IV, they took a slightly more narrow focus, but pushed everything to perfection. There is consistent qualit...
Glad to see Gears of War in the list. Definitely one of the defining franchises of this generation.
This coming gen, it's going to be the extra features that set the consoles apart and decide your purchase. Both will play 90% of the same games, so it is all going to come down to features.
