Games released on disc is moving towards a "sampler" or "startup pack". The strategy is all about giving the gamers the taste and once addicted, they can sell you all kinds of DLCs which are the real contents.

The only way to resist this kind of marketing strategy is not buy the games to begin with. Yet, not enough gamers have the self will power to resist which is the reason the game publishers can keep moving more contents to DLC because they know there ...

Since for a long time, gamers like to use an editor to cheat to boost the settings, EA is making it legal to "cheat" by selling you the cheats.

So, if you buy for the legal cheats from the game publisher, is it still called cheating?

Of course to EA, there's no difference as long they make more money. It's the gamers who paid $60 for the game and then spent more money for the cheats to waste the game. Why do they care?

That is the main reason I refused to buy Alan Wake even adventure/mystery games are my favorite. The game on disc is designed to be incomplete so that the DLC can continue to main story like additional episodes.

Problem with this concept is once more gamers accepted that it's okay for the $60 disc game to be incomplete for additional DLC episodes, then more game publishers will see that as acceptable way to make more games this way. It's like ship 80% of the game and ...

DLC trophies can be used as a way to sell a poorly made DLC because the game publishers know enough gamers will buy the DLC just to get a complete trophy set for the game.

For online, it can also be used as way to get gamers to spend more time playing online multiplayer that is poorly made.

I have read many gamers complaining the DLC or online multiplayer doesn't have trophies. Those gamers are the reason why game publishers will put trophies in them.

Any Apple users? Apple loves to make non-standard ports on their products. Want to connect your Apple device to something that uses standard port, $50 for the adapter. Microsoft is following what Apple does best. Once you bought their product, you have to buy the overly priced adapter if you want to use it.

On the old X360 to be able to use HDMI and optical audio. Microsoft put the HDMI and IO port so close together that only Microsoft brand dongle with optical audio will fit...

That's the beauty of marketing to say whatever excuse they want to make gamers buy the Gold Edition if we want to play with Move. Console game codes are like PC where only certain part of code is changed to free up the memory slot as Capcom calls it. Most of the code in the game are the same because Gold edition is not a complete redesign over the original edition except including the DLC. Capcom is happy to sell the DLC that is about 500MB each. They are unwilling to give the code change...

The problem with too many gamers like the one that wrote the article is they want consoles with lots of storage for nothing. If Arcade does have 60GB HDD built-in, there's no reason for many semi-casual gamers to spend the extra $100 for the 250GB model. This new Arcade already has wireless built-in for free.

Reality is gamers want everything built-in in the console for nothing and then they want every accessory to be sold for nothing. Only then they are happy. By then th...

Certain games have the saved game becomes dependent on the DLC. So, if you delete the DLC or it expires, you can't load the saved game anymore. One such game is Dragon Age: Origins. Currently there isn't any PS+ free DLC game that has saved game with this dependency.

My biggest issue with buying digital version of the game or DLC is the ownership. It's locked to the account and console (even PS3 has 5 consoles limit). With EA and other publishers that require a code to activate part of the game, it's locked to one account.

If you ever changed your account, you lost all the digital version of the games you bought. With the digital controlled ownership only been largely used for a few years, who's to know what will happen severa...

I used to have a large PC games collection but with DOS and earlier DirectX games, most aren't compatible with today's Windows, video and sound hardware. Even with different types of DOS emulators, most of the DOS games will not run properly or very unstable. With earlier DirectX 3 through 6 Windows games, they are rarely compatible.

I used to set up multiple older PC hardware that worked with old video drivers which were semi compatible with old Windows games. And ev...

Ship incomplete game:
Game publishers = save the development time and cost. Sell the rest of the contents later as DLC for more profit.
Gamers = most will continue to spend whatever it takes to have "new" game contents to play.

Ship buggy game:
Game publishers = save the development time and cost. Make profit first and fix the broken product later.
Gamers = most will buy a broken game with full of bugs so that they don't have to w...

There are certain X360 games that don't store all the game progress in the saved game file. It depends which games you have played and tried to migrate to the new X360 hard drive. So, some of the you will loose certain saved games while some will not see any.

PS3 has many games that lock the saved game file to the console. The data migration utility can transfer to another PS3 console but that requires the old PS3 console is functional to do it.

Things that the do and do not figures aren't showing are do not have kids running around the parents that try to play with Kinect. And holding the baby while the parent is trying to game with Kinect is not allowed.

Until the actual game is out, all the reasons why the game will be awesome can only be based on the hype.

I stopped believing in the marketing hype for any game because so many gamers are never like the marketing hype after they come out. Only a few games are closer to the marketing hype.

So no sense in getting all excited over the marketing hypes. Wait until the actual game is out and proven before getting excited why it will be so good.

Why do gamers/article authors keep writing about top 5 or so reason <game title> is the greatest game ever before the game is even out in the market? The only thing this proves is some gamers are so sold into the hype. Hype does not always equal the shipping game quality.

Same goes with many gamers who totally believe in the hype as it's the greatest game which is why so many gamers turned from totally believed in the hype to totally disappointed after the game ship...

The issue about charging for online multiplayer is the single player campaign length. If the game is going to cost MSRP $60 with 5 hours of single player campaign and then extra charge for online multiplayer, that makes the game extremely expensive.

What I think is if the game publishers are going to charge extra for the online multiplayer, they are not going to design the single player campaign any longer.

If anyone isn't going to spend extra money to pl...

The issue with EA needs competition is the competitors will start to follow EA's strategy. If EA can make more money, others will follow.

Eventually, just about everything on the game becomes extra charge, the game disc must as well be called starter kit.

In countries where it's common for gamers to have modded X360 console to play pirated games, is PS3 popular there since they can't mod and play pirated PS3 games? What about countries like China?

Has the term "free" changed the meaning now? Does it mean free to own or free to rent? PS+ games are free to rent because you don't own them and must be a current subscriber to play them. That's not free to own.

But that's what more online services are going because it's not as attractive to advertise free to rent. So, rewrite the meaning of "free" as not to own. That's the beauty of marketing, rewrite the meaning of words to suit the a...

It was more like a few seconds sale at Gamestop Friday sale because the web site stopped responding almost immediately at 12 pm EST and came back online right at 1 pm EST.

Of course they pointed their finger at their server wouldn't handle the load.
