If "next gen" means a powerful hardware than the previous then the Wii is next gen because it is more than 2x more powerful than the Gamecube.
But who really cares if it is "next gen" or not. What is considered next gen is hard to define and skewed by a person's bias. I am sure there are some who would say the DS is not next gen.
As for playing Mario Galaxy with the Wii Remote, I think it is great. Is it really needed? I really don't know. I h...
I don't know if the game is in any way revolutionary (I only played like 20 minutes), but I must say the game was fun. You just feel compelled to move on to the next level. As for the graphics they are not as impressive as I thought it would be, but you forget about it after 5 minutes of play.
Nintendo has the fastest selling console of all time and the momentum right now is just remarkable. Nintendo has most of the third parties on the Wii ship. Nintendo is coming out with some sure-to-be high selling games (Mario Kart Wii, Wii Fit, Wii Music, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros. Brawl etc.). And Nintendo's stock and net profits is through the stratosphere.
Yeah, Nintendo is arrogant but so are Sony and Microsoft.
It looks like nothing can slow down...
I'm probably the only one who thinks Wii Fit will end up being a bigger seller than Halo 3. It won't have a big opening like Halo 3, but in the long term Wii Fit will outsell Halo 3.
Making a game on the Wii can be a lot different than making a game on any other console simply because of the Wii controls. It takes time for developers to make a game from the ground up with such a novel interface. The samething happened when the DS came out. Developers were like "okay, how do we make a game that creatively utilizes the touch screen?". It took about a year until developers got it right. Now we have games like Ninja Gaiden for the DS which looks like to be one of th...
Yeah, it's pretty bad that not many games are rated high on the Wii. Many of the games rated high on Wii are made by Nintendo. But what do you expect when third parties expected the Wii to fail and then suddenly jump on the Wii bandwagon just a few months ago? You are not going to get a lot of good third party games carefully crafted for the Wii from the ground up so soon. Hardly anyone expected the Wii to be so popular. So it's not Nintendo's fault there are not many good third party games a...
Nintendo shouldn't be arrogant. Nintendo got arrogant 10 years ago and that's when Sony took over and dominated. Sony got arrogant and now Nintendo is dominating.
I do agree that Wii Sports is the most innovative game to come out in a long time. It's a brilliant game insofar that it brings people of all ages to come together to play. My mother, grandmother, girlfriend, sister etc. would never ever play Halo 3.
Remember about a year ago Sony dissed Nintendo and said they weren't worried about the Wii? Now Sony is fighting hard to compete with Nintendo. Funny how things turned out. One should never underestimate his enemy.
Here are several reasons why it is a success and not in any particular order.
1. The main reason why it is success is because of the Wii Remote. It definitely wouldn't have been selling so much if it weren't for it. People are intrigued by the unconventional way to play video games. Not only that it is more accessible to gamers -- it helps to bring simplicity back to gaming like it was 20 years ago.
2. Price. I used to think price was a major factor but I don't k...
The Wii doesn't have many good games and it is still selling like hotcakes. Just imagine how much more in demand the Wii will be when many of the good games start rolling in? Games such as SMB, Mario Galaxy, No More Heroes, Medal of Honor 3, Zack and Wiki, Resident Evil UC, Trauma Center 2, Mario Kart Wii, Nights, Raving Rabbids 2 etc.
The reason why there are not many good third party games on Wii because hardly anyone thought the Wii would sell so well. Even Nintendo is surp...
The Wii is more revolutionary than the 360 and PS3 that's for sure. Updating graphics capability does nothing to give gamers an inovative gameplay experience. Wii Sports was far more innovative than any game I've played on the 360 and PS3. Swinging the Wii-mote (which detects direction, speed, and tilt) to hit a tennis ball is a much more innovative interactive experience than pressing buttons to hit a tennis ball on HD screen.
As I said many times before, graphic capability ha...
The Xbox division made a profit for one quarter but what about the quarters after? Halo 3 is what drove their profits but the Halo 3 madness can't last long. Also remember the Xbox division has a net loss of billions of dollars. Unless Microsoft can make a profit each quarter from here on and ultimately make a net profit then one can say the Xbox division is successful. Until then it has been a massive failure.
Oh, it's not just the Xbox division that is a failure or failing, s...
The Wii lose steam? I doubt it since it has been selling well since it has been released with a lack of good games. Just imagine how much more in demand it will be when the many good games start rolling out?
Video games sells consoles? The Wii seems to be defying that idea. The Wii doesn't have many very good games aside from Zelda, Metroid, and Resident Evil, and yet it is still outselling its competitors. Just imagine how high demand for the Wii will be when sure-to-be hits like Zack and Wiki, RE: UC, Raving Rabbids 2, Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros, and Wii Fit come out? And when demand drops (whenever that happens) Nintendo can easily drop the price to $180 - $200 without taking a loss (unlike Micr...
I believe this holiday season will be the biggest for console and portable gaming in terms of sales. I also believe that the Wii and DS will totally dominate in sales despite what you anti-Nintendo say.
It can't make a comeback when it was never a hit. Michael Jackson can make a comeback, but not the PS3.
When the price is below $250, which will probably take another year for the console to reach that price point. Sure the price may be worth what you are getting, but I am not much of a gamer to spend so much money especially when I have bills to pay. I don't think it's justified to pay extra money for all that stuff that increases the cost of the console, I just want a quick fix of game playing sometimes (*gasps!* I just want to play a video game, crazy eh?). Much like I think some BMW models ...
The last console I owned was SNES, now I own a Wii. I am not a gamer per se, only play for a few minutes here and there.
I am going to give the Wii a chance. It's only been about a year since it was released. The PS3's software library is no better than the Wii's right now. A lot of Devs jumped on the Wii Bandwagon around April when they saw the Wii was the real deal. So don't expect to see a lot of good third party games in '08. If I am wrong and by the end of '08 there lacks a lot of compelling games then I am selling my Wii.
Maybe people are buying the Wii, which is almost outselling 360 and PS3 combined, because of games like Metroid Prime 3, Zelda, Zack and Wiki, Trauma Center, Wii Sports, Resident Evil 4, and upcoming games like Super Smash Bros, Mario Galaxy, Wii Fit, Nights etc. I don't know, it's just a theory.
