"The Wii is a fad"
"The Wii has last gen graphics"
"Soon everyone will buy a 360 or PS3, just wait"
"There are nothing but kiddie and mini games on the Wii"
"The Wii is selling because it is cheaper"
"Only kids and grandparents play the Wii"
You kids are so predictable and repetitive.
Nintendo is dominating the market. According to the latest sales charts, the Wii sold over 1.4 million worldwide last week and the DS over 2 million. Remarkable.
2008 should be a much better year for the Wii software wise. I think we should see much better quality third party games since many third parties jumped on the Wii bandwagon about 6 months ago. I also expect Nintendo to release some new franchises for 2008 as Miyamoto once said along with the successors to popular fra...
You guys express the same sentiments as the majority of "hardcore" gamers on this site. You don't like the Wii, then fine. But just know most other people like it.
The Wii is a console for everybody. It doesn't just have games for the family. There are games for the hardcore gamers such as Metroid Prime 3, Resident Evil 4, Zelda, and Resident Evil: UC.
But oh well. 2008 will be another year of fanboys whining and complaining saying "Wii is a fad&qu...
David Radd's essay lacks so much objectivity I almost laughed. David should have done his research beforehand. David seems to be the typical "core gamer" I encounter on forums who tend to be close-minded and reek of "fanboyism".
First off, "core" third-party games do sale on the Wii. Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition sold over a 1 million worldwide despite being a remake. There would be much more million + selling "core" games on the Wii if t...
The Wii is absolutely awesome.
The Wii is sleek, stylish, petite and doesn't look like a George Foreman grill.
The Wii is first and foremost a video game machine and not a wannabee PC.
The Wii doesn't cost as much as a car payment.
The Wii allows you to play games online for free.
The Wii has a library of games going back to the NES.
The Wii allows you to browse the internet
The Wii can pl...
What is a hardcore and casual gamer? I played video games since the Atari days and have beaten some of the hard hardcore games ever such as Battletoads and Ninja Gaiden on the NES. But now that I have other more important things to do with my time and a job I only play video games for about 2 hours culmulative every week. I skipped the last generation of consoles because I thought video games were getting boring because it lacked innovation. I got excited over the Wii and bought it and I now ...
If you have been keep track on software sales for the past several weeks, you would know software sales on the Wii are much higher than the 360's worldwide... for the last several weeks at least.
Sony as a whole is making money, Sony's game division is losing tons of money. Get it? If you have read the article you would know that PS3 is in no position to fund its own turnaround and that Sony is anxiously trying to raise money conserve cash to fund the PS3.
And who ever said the 360 was successful in terms of turning a profit? Microsoft has had a loss of billions dollars with their Xbox line. They only had profitable quarters when Halo 2 and Halo 3 were released. However...
I don't even think the Playstation 3 will last 4 years. If you didn't know they are selling every PS3 at a major loss. Their game division has had a loss of over 800 million but would have been in the billions if they didn't take into account the profits they are still making from the PS2. With the low sales of the PS3 and third parties investing more for other consoles, how long do you think they can keep it up? They are going to cut the PS3 and start fresh with PS4 and this time will make i...
or at least it's on its deathbed waiting to die.
Okay Sony Fanboys, before getting all worked up take a few deep breaths and try to think objectively for a moment.
The Playstation 3 is bleeding Sony badly as they are selling every unit at a loss. Their game division reported a loss of over 800 million last quarter. But they took into account the massive profits they are still getting from the PS2 (if you didn't know the PS2 is still selling well). If you discout ...
LOL @ Gamers prophesizing the end of hardcore gaming.
Nintendo has stated before the Wii is for EVERYBODY. Not just for hardcore gamers and not just for casual gamers. This is all part of their blue ocean strategy. That's the big reason why the Wii is selling like hotcakes.
Nintendo will continue to make games that target the core gamers. I mean, do you really think Nintendo is going to stop making games like Mario, Zelda, and Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart? No way...
Rayman Raving Rabbids, Red Steel, Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition are all world wide 1 million + third party sellers. Guess how many 1 million + third party sellers are on the PS3? Zero!
Guitar Hero 3 on Wii is sure to top 1 million.
If third party developers make high quality games like Nintendo then their games are bound to sell well.
The reason fanboys keep saying the Wii success won't last, despite it being unbelievably successful for over 12 months and outselling 360 and PS3 combined for most of the year, is BECAUSE YOU DON'T WANT IT TO SUCCEEED. You know what that is called? It's called Wishful Thinking!!
Wish all you want but the mass market has spoken.
Gahigiddy, what you said was simply retarded.
How is Nintendo creating false demand by not producing enough when they increased production from 1 million to almost 2 million a month?
Not you nor Nintendo anticipated that the Wii would be such in high demand even after a year it was released.
And I like Nintendo. But I don't think Mario Galaxy is a perfect 10. If it is a perfect 10 than Zelda Ocarina of Time is a 11 and Metroid Prime is a 10.5. Personally, I think it is a 9.5 game.
That butterfly in the stomach feeling I had when I played Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World and Mario 64 wasn't as strong when I played Mario Galaxy. It's still an awesome game though.
With all that money Nintendo is making should increase development of video games. And they don't have to be the type of games for the hardcore market that involves a lot of killing. They can be wacky, weird games like Beautiful Katamari.
You know what I am talking about. That Nintendo is driving demand by purposely creating shortages.
Nintendo has increased production of the Wii by almost a million a month so how in the world are they holding back? Nintendo is a very smart company. Holding back is bad business.
Increasing monthly Wii production to 3 or 4 million is not as easy as you think. It's much more complicated than that. Not you nor Nintendo anticipated that the Wii would be so hot even af...
Japan doesn't need their Wiis like those ravenous all-consuming Americans, and Nintendo knows this according to Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter. While crunching the NPD numbers for July, and trying to figure out where he went wrong, he noticed that the US Wii sales numbers were a bit confusing -- they were high. That's not confusing on the demand side of things, but the supply shouldn't have been there to sell.
Pachter says, "Wii sales remain strong, with an apparen...
