How do you know for sure Nintendo is holding back shipment of the Wii? Nintendo stated themselves that they are producing over 1.8 million Wiis per month. That's an awful lot of Wiis.
It could be that it is not that Nintnedo can't have enough produced, it is that demand is so incredibly high.

I think Microsoft's next console won't be much powerful than the 360. Why? Because Microsoft has loss billions of dollars on 360 hardware selling it for much less than it cost to produce. Nintendo makes a profit on every Wii sold than trying to recoup the loss other ways. That's a smart and practical business model. Did you know that Microsoft hasn't made any net profit from their Xbox line? They only reported two profitable quarters and that was during time Halo 2 and Halo 3 came out.

Contrary what many people say (mostly fanboys), third party software does and will sell on the Wii if it is high quality. Capcom (Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition) and Ubisoft (Rayman and Red Steel) have made a lot of money on the Wii. Trauma Center, made by a small third party, I believe sold over a million copies.
If the game is good it will sale, plain and simple. Third parties shouldn't expect to sell a lot if the game is shovelware and/or a piece of garbage.

It's obvious that Halo 3 pushed a lot of 360s. It's no coincidence the month Halo 3 was released 360 sales more than doubled. But I expect 360 sales to drop down close to what it was most of the year by November.
Just about everyone expected Halo 3 to push a lot of 360s for about 2 or 3 months. Even Sony and Nintendo fanboys expected it. But I expect the 360 numbers to drop substantionally for November and thereafter and Wii numbers to be as high or higher for next couple of months.
