Pretty sure PS isn't going down that path willingly. If they do it's because of their stakeholders. Guess which company was outed for trying to buy controlling shares of Nintendo, and Sony?

You must own and use the game to get these "ads" as you are calling them.

But if you already own the game... what are they trying to sell you?

Nintendo Switch's lock screen news feed ads which sometimes are actual ads for content in games you don't even own are a worse problem people just let slide and don't me get started on the fact that ads for anything from Dairy Queen to Zegato could pop up on every page of the Xbox UI except th...

What region are you and P_Bomb both in?

News acts as a way to get that information especially for GT7 which is basically one of the only games I follow on my PS5 because I play it so often.

Nintendo features news on the Switch lock screen and sometimes that "news" includes links to purchasable DLC for games that you may or may not own on your Nintendo Switch if some screenshots I found online are to be believed.

Personally, I would still consider this annoying, but it's not selling you anything so it really is not an advertisement by definition, because you already bought the game and the background news isn't selling you stuff in the overwhelming majority of cases (save for one possible example, which I will get to later). It's just news related to the game you have selected on the homescreen, presumably to play. I'm personally happy that this isn't affecting my PS5 for some reas...

Since when is advertising a specific feature of Capitalism? People, I could take you seriously if you understood what the heck you were talking about.

I hate ads as much as everyone else, but they're just as prominent in Socialist and Communist nations and it's so in your face we gave it a different name, though, to be fair I would consider commercials as propaganda, too.

Uh... I still need to scroll down to see the "Official News" section on my PS5 even when looking at the offending titles alleged in the article (GT7 and Marvel's Spider-Man 2) and I do live in the US. So, I'm still confused. To even see the words "Official News" in GT7 I need to scroll down past "Play Game" and "Activities" and I can't actually see anything other than the game's default background in the affected games.

Somehow when I commented about Nintendo Switch's news feed acting similarly and also being mandatory on Switch's lock screen showing ads (at least for game related stuff) no one had anything to say about it.

Now PS5 supposedly does something similar and you are getting insane levels of disagreement for saying it isn't bad.

Oh boy, time for me to check this out! If true it's wrong and grossshould just be wrong flat out.

Not if you have a Steam Deck... but the Steam Deck is a largely un-upgradable mass-produced gaming console... Wait, I thought PC gamers hated those things? Oh, well.

Gold was a paid service. Guess what you still need to do to play FH5, Gears 5, and MSFS? Oh right, link your Steam ID and Xbox ID.

Looks like you PC gamers lost a long time ago.

Well you don't on PS4 or on PS5. You only need it on PC because the plan as PS said many times now was to get PC gamers invested in the PS brand.

@CobraKai
"Sony should stop putting their games on PC."
They just might if this is all it takes to upset the PC base. The whole point of all these accounts was to wrestle PC gamers into other ecosystems. And PC gamers condoned it by buying all these games from other sources and creating accounts to play said games.

But now PS does it and... it's the most wrong, anti-consumer practice anyone alive now, or who has ever lived in the known and un...

The game has an online leaderboard that is only ever used in the arena challenges when you unlock them. The leaderboard requires PSN.

Stating this fact isn't in any way shape or form condoning a PSN sign-up or login requirement for an otherwise completely offline game. If you take it as such, you are an idiot.

I don't play many console games on PC. The only PS game I have on PC is Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart which I picked up to check how fast my GTX 1070 is compared to the PS5 at file decompression.

Why would I care or complain about what happens on a platform I hardly use to game on and have largely abandoned more than 2 decades ago?

There is a useless online feature in this game, unfortunately. So they have an excuse however flimsy. Their better excuse is to reduce piracy but this will promote it and PS will recoil from the PC market yet again as they did back in the early 2000s. PC gamers were ultimately the reason PS abandoned PC and it might happen again only this time PS might be remembering what they did wrong back then and PC gamers aren't happy about them going with the rest of the crowd today even if it might...

The only console that doesn't do this yet is PS5. People will argue that this isn't true with the "What's New" feature existing since late in the PS3 generation, but PS3 literally gave users the option to not even launch on that screen. Back then and during the PS4 era users couldn't choose what was on the "What's New" section or PS4 landing screen at all, but on PS3 you could choose not to start in that section at all.

PS5 had the &q...

My point was made. We saw and largely rejected it back then, but we're not seeing that level of rejection today... So, physical might actually go away. If it does, how many gens before PS doesn't even support physical media at all? Not many.

Obviously you missed the part where the phone connects to the TV offering 128x zoom on top of whatever zoom your TV allows... Also that the majority of my former post was a joke!

What isn't a joke is the fact that if you couldn't see the differences on a 1440p mobile display playing a 2160p60 YT video, well then, how will you see them on a TV? When seated a nominal distance from it giving you the same apparent size window to look at of a 5 to 9 in...
