'The 3DS nor the regular DS has as good of graphics as the PSP – they don’t pretend to though.'
I know the writer is supposedly positive about the 3DS, but that statement makes no damned sense. Super Street Fighter 4 and Resident Evil Mercenaries say hello. Not to mention MGS3 and others on the way...
The truth is that many of those $1 dollar games are lowering expectations and damaging price points for greater efforts. But it is also true that many greater efforts just cost too much. You can only buy so many 40-50-$60 games that are only worth playing once/twice, or not worth finishing before you get pissed off and disillusioned.
Damn. This game looks amazing, graphically speaking.
While these companies do seem to downplay the significance of cheap phone games, I wonder why they don't just allow them for download on their potable devices and get a cut? *shrug*
People who are satisfied with gaming on their phone didn't grow up playing console games. It's its own market. If you are a hand held gamer that likes deep gaming experiences on a hand held device, you're going to get a 3DS, an NGP, or both. The iPhone you might play with, but it's in addition to those others.
I think the biggest problem other than that that people have with this review is that the fact that 'He grew up on Halo' is supposed to mean so...
They don't assign combos. They assign special moves. I agree it's rather noobish, but on the other hand, now it's all about strategy, and everyone how you fight rather than 'who can do the Shoryuken motion without messing up'. A noob won't win because of a hadouken button. He'll win because he plays the game well.
It may only cost $100 to purchase the materials, but there's the manufacturing cost, which includes the buildings they use, and the employees who manufacture that they pay. Not to mention the millions of dollars in research and development. No doubt there will be a price drop, but I don't think it will be for a while. It took them 3 years to drop the Wii price...
I love Pokemon and am having fun with Black and White, but no doubt this latest batch are as ugly as hades...
How embarrassing... We literally have no shame as a country and culture these days...
I loved the mother's reaction. Nintendo does such a good job of bringing people simple joy through their hardware and games.
The music really does sound Chrono Trigger-esque.
While I also have been disappointed by this game, 150 characters would have meant an extremely broken game. No way around it. MvC2 was lucky in that it was broken in all of the right ways, but 150 characters would have been playing Russian Roullete for Capcom.
Hence why people like myself feel that there should be better marketing. I remember the scratch and sniff sticker marketing plan in video game magazines back in the day... It didn't tell me what the game was about though. They're lucky and I'm lucky I bought that game. ya know?
With as much profit Nintendo is making, you'd think they'd have the guts to spend some money to promote and release their lesser known IP's that are without a doubt amazing...
Were all HD games in 1080p when the HD consoles first released? No. Were their games a gimmick because of that? No. The consoles need time for developers to figure them out and find what works best. Plain and simple.
I'd like to see how much per game on average it cost to create those games. That figure will likely show us why only 5% took the risk.
I'm just glad that to see another developer that actually cares alot about making each platform release equal.
All I have to say is Conduit 2 aside, if you think that the Game Cube can do graphically what Capcom is doing with RE: Mercenaries, you either haven't seen it, or your memory is extremely faulty.
They have Conduit 2 levels running on the 3DS. How is that 'Not quite Game Cube'? According to them, it's a Wii and then some graphically speaking. I agree with the part of the article about wanting Wind Waker in 3D though. I hope it happens. The hardware is plenty capable.
The point is though: Even though that is your choice, why hate on the 3DS?
Just for the record, I'm not saying that you are hating at all Masterchef2007. Just making the general statement. For whatever reasons alot of people can't just say, 'That's cool, but not my cup of tea.' It's always: 'How could you like that over what I've chosen? It's crap!' And yeah, the street goes both ways with Nintendo lovers doing the same stuff...
