I agree with and respect what you're saying here. The theatrics are a bit much though. In any case, what you said needed to be said. Reviewers saying that the Wii U game pad doesn't add anything significant to ZombiU are somehow playing the game without realizing how many things they're doing in this game that have never been done before. I don't get it. You'd hate to think that it's because 'riding the hate bandwagon' is the cool thing to do right now , the th...
Indefensible? I hope there aren't people out there who really feel that way.
Considering that there ARE still people out there who want but don't have a Wii, and the biggest reason that they don't have one is cost, this is a great move. If you are buying a new Wii (your first one) in 2012 because it's $99, sleek, and takes up little space, you probably don't have much disposable income, have a small living area, and slow internet if any. So a tiny cheap Wi...
Milking the 'I got it first' crowd. Nintendo always does this to us. Could be worse, like it was with the 3DS. But no doubt within a year or so new consoles and game pads will come with a more substantial battery - that lo and behold, fits right into the original housing...
Adults don't stay away from Call of Duty, and that's the biggest 'Kids toy' in gaming, so I don't think your point carries much weight. There may be a small class of very young adults who feel the need to 'get away from childish Mario', but those people are relatively small in number. The Wii U just like other consoles, is a child's toy and an adult's hobby machine.
Nothing wrong with you being satisfied with what you've got. But if you...
I would say wannabe graphics whores really. True graphics whores are PC gamers. PS360WiiU gamers who think that they are all about graphics are like a piranha in a small lake thinking that he's a killer whale in a large ocean.
It's downright silly the way people get so indignant over console graphics. Acting as though their console of choice is anything more than a delivery system for awesome 1st party exclusives that are worth whatever comparative 'graphics shor...
It's the extent to which Nintendo put their efforts into the game pad that will make the huge difference whenever MS and Sony tack on a similar type of controller on their next-gen consoles. Due to cost, and the consumer need to keep cost low, you either go the Nintendo route, or you put all of your eggs into the 'raw power' basket it appears. Then hope people buy your add on, and hope people develop around your add on, etc.
We've reached a point in gaming as...
Nice post MacDonagh.
On a place like N4G where we have a high concentration of company specific loyalists, and Nintendo is in the minority, people are going to be more negative than positive since they don't plan to buy a Wii U and love to try and add weight to the decision by pretending that their choice is common sense. Any interest they have in it at all is to see it look bad, and for many of the particularly immature, they feel that any time they can poison someone...
They sold pretty much every console that they had available, and people are waiting in line on waiting lists.
'So we're selling this thing as fast as we can make and distribute them. Better change our strategy!'
Please...
Yeah, you can tell this person actually spent a decent amount of time with the console and made a real attempt to cover all of the bases with an open mind. I respect that. Especially amidst all of the sheer mindless hate going around these days.
If it bothers you that they took out the Wi-Fi capability, consider this question. How much longer are any past developers of Wii games going to keep up online support for whatever games they've released? Probably not much longer. Not to mention, that if you've been wanting a Wii all this time, but had to wait until it's $99.99, chances are you probably don't have internet service in a way that would allow you to play games online. Just saying.
I don't even get the angry attitude that people have toward it. They want it to be weaker than current gen so they can talk crap. Then they admit it's more capable, but go off on how it would be absurd if it wasn't (which was the no-brainer from the start). They go on about how Nintendo doesn't make games they like. Then they get angry when Nintendo saves a cult-favorite franchise and gains exclusivity. They go on and on. Each in his own way.
But the bottom l...
Well assuming that he's telling the truth, I do indeed feel sorry for him and wish him the best. On the other hand though, I have no sudden urge, to go out and buy games he's made, or care about whatever projects he may be currently working on.
How sad. Hopefully he'll be alright.
You know little to nothing about what you are commenting on. You cling to this disproven train of thought and even ignore the realities of the games and ports we're seeing at launch. And why? Because you don't want people to like the Wii U? You're upset that people think it's more than you think it is? You want people to only want your next-gen console of choice? You hate Nintendo? What? You have no answer that can make any sort of sense, or can be respected on this topic. As ...
When you say slow you are talking about a 'low' amount of cycles per second. But since you aren't taking into account how many things the CPU can do during each cycle, (which is a lot when dealing with the latest Power tech) the point is moot.
The 2.5-3 Ghz of the 2012 almost 2013 Wii U is far more efficient than the 3.2 or so Ghz of 2006. That is all before even taking the GPGPU-like graphics card into account.
Hence competent developers being a...
I love this series. I hate that they release them where I live YEARS after they release in Japan, and inbetween releases, there is great uncertainty as to whether or not a title will even be released. Ot's actually getting a bit sickening.
'In layman’s terms: The Wii U is a sexy, misunderstood, true next generation gaming system that requires developers to change the way in which they program their games in order to get significantly better looking, and better performing, games than what are currently out there. Any concerns over a slow processor are completely negated by the fact the Graphics Card on the Wii U can actually handle some of the larger processes, like physics, usually reserved for the processor.'

One of these days, people will stop thinking 'power' and think 'Capability'. Power and speed as far as raw specs goes isn't always all important if the architecture overall is configured in a clever way. While Nintendo does go as cheap as they can hardware-wise, they always put together clever, optimal, surprisingly CAPABLE machines.
For all of the 'weak', 'slow', 'less powerful' comments out there, the reality is that the Wii U is...
Why not? The Basic is $300, the Deluxe is $350, and comes with a game, a larger SD card, a bunch of extra plastic, the color most people want, and a deal on downloadable games. If you were to buy the basic and Nintendo Land, you're already at Deluxe cost. It's probably the Basic that they lose money on.
Very interested in seeing this silly tit for tat amongst these writers who've helped push the crap-storm of Wii U hate/misinformation to the pinnacle, and wind people back up the staircase to reality. That reality that shows that whatever the raw numbers may say, the Wii U is a more capable machine than the older HD consoles. It would be absurd for it not to be. It's even more absurd to hope it to be otherwise, and find personal enjoyment in fantasizing that it's 'weak'. ...
