Unless either of the things MS wants to leverage is games, as in having actual exclusives for a change, I'm not interested and if sales figures don't improve much once the X launches, neither is the average consumer.
So, let me get this straight. The XB1 has a worthwhile console exclusive for the first time since...ummm...Ori and the Blind Forest maybe...and the gaming media goes crazy. How did this not happen sooner? Have you seen how many titles get released on Steam on a regular basis? I think the issue is half quality control, as there are a lot of less than stellar titles that get released on the service, and half games inevitably falling under the radar due to the sheer number of fairly regular releases.
Well, I do want one to go with my PS4 someday. I have a feeling it will make a great secondary system.
What about PS4 owners who also have a laptop with Steam? Good on MS for securing a console exclusive though. Now they just need more.
For reasons that Apocalypse Shadow and the author of this article has stated more eloquently than I could, crossplay is not a feature that makes or breaks a system. It wouldn't hurt to have, but life goes on without it. If I'm playing online I don't care where the other users are from or what system they're using, so as long as the playerbase is there it's irrelevant whether they're on the same console or not. I will give MS props though for jumping on minute issues...

It's true that the differences between the libraries of the two main systems are less significant than they once were. However, the console wars rage on. It was never a real construct, but that doesn't stop it from filling comments sections.

Well, in that case, as a fellow journalist I recommend trying to be yourself. I've sold out more than a few times by writing articles I think people want to read even if they don't reflect my opinion, as either filler or clickbait or both. Lately though, I've tried to abandon that practice as I don't feel those articles when I'm writing them and they don't even end up doing as well as I expect them to. Don't assume your audience are sheep drawn to any empty head...
This is interesting and all, but I can't imagine why these games were ported over when the 3DS is just as capable of playing Heart Gold and Soul Silver.

So the big argument here is that there's another overpriced piece of tech that's even more expensive? I'm all for putting things into perspective but I have better things to do with $500 than drop it on slightly better graphics for the same games. Actually, not even all the same games as I own a PS4 which has exclusives no XB1 has.
Well, Nintendo isn't Microsoft. They might seem clueless at times when it comes to system architecture, infrastructure and functionality, but they know full well that exclusives sell, and they have some great franchises that people still clamour for new entries in all these years later. Plus they've finally designed a system where the "gimmick" is actually kind of cool and adds to the experience rather than detracting from it. Rest in pieces motion control!
