Phil Spencer of all people is defending stylized graphics? I agree, but where was this defense when it seemed everyone only cared about gritty FPS with attempted realism art styles? Oh, right, at MS money talks and now that MS knows there's a market for games with stylized graphics (welcome to...pretty much always MS), Phil Spencer will defend them. Well, I guess better late than never.
Actually, there are some kids who are more mature than some adults. However, it's safer to have age restrictions on things because on average someone who is 12 would not handle certain content in nearly as mature a manner as someone who is 21. I'm definitely all for parents deciding what's best for their kid based on their level of maturity, but that's only assuming they know their kid well and are aware of what media they're consuming.
Unfortunately...
You're right that everything you mentioned is bad if used irresponsibly. But, none of the above is bad if used responsibly. It's up to individuals to be reasonable and responsible with all of it. Parents especially, because they chose to have kids, so they should make sure any minors under their care are raised to be responsible adults when they grow up.
Videogames didn't magically point a gun at that 19 year old and force him to open fire at his former high ...
I'm a behaviour interventionist, so I totally get it. Sometimes the real problem isn't the kid, but the parent. Bad parenting can range from a total c'est la vie approach to being upset that their eight year old isn't writing Shakespeare or doing calculus. You're right though that allowing kids to play certain games underaged is only part of the problem and not the whole issue. Heck, it may just be a symptom of bad parenting as parents who take a hands-off approach to ...
Indeed. Try telling that to that Oompa Loompa though, or that idiot senator with the Rhode Island of brains. I think stupidity in all forms should be illegal, including blaming violent games for being a bad influence on kids who are under the age that's clearly recommended on the case or in plain sight while purchasing a digital copy.
This.^ The Vita is a great system if you like Japanese games, and it's great for indie games too, although the latter are rarely ever exclusive. Still, certain games do feel right on the system, which is good enough for some people.
The only objective improvements modern gaming has over past gaming have to do with graphics and sound, as well as memory and tech allowing for vaster and more lively worlds to explore. Oh, and games can be longer. Everything else is subjective, and usually has pros and cons.
Numbers 8 and 6 on this list aren't that different, but I'll go down the list anyways.
8. Ok, that's one thing I'll agree on, although data existed as far back as ...
I think it will be a cold day in Hell (or a warm day in Dante's Hell) before I give up physical games, but I do often go digital if the price is right, and if there is no physical release it's a moot point. I've certainly embraced both, but whenever someone writes an article saying they swore off physical games, all that makes me think is "cool story bro". Don't buy physical games if you don't want to. I will.
Well, art isn't experienced in a vacuum. And no, I don't think videogames are more than a confounding variable in the equation. I also like to think that, as gung ho as Americans are about owning guns, the majority of Americans are reasonable and rational enough to not go on shooting sprees. I strongly disagree that gun ownership should not be regulated, but what do I know? I live in a country where we almost never have shootings like that, because there are many more restrictions...
I would say it depends on the genre and plot of a book, but there are plenty out there that could be adapted to a game. Also, games don't have a limit of 2 and 1/2 hours or less to tell their story, so big chunks of a book that would get cut for a movie could still be included. It also won't take two to three games to tell the story of a larger book like it sometimes does with movies.
Of course it can. The PS4 is showing no signs of slowing down and continues to receive a steady flow of exclusives. A better question is whether the Switch will continue to bring the competition. I think it will for the time being, but that depends on its exclusives lineup. I think the PS4 still has the edge, personally, though hats off to Nintendo of all companies for providing real competition.
Actually, the PS3 has more power than it was given credit for, but was apparently incredibly difficult to program for. Also, most devs didn't know how to do certain things on the PS3 because it wasn't very self-explanatory. In designing the PS4 Sony took that criticism to heart and decided to opt for architecture that's dev friendly first and foremost. In spite of having the more powerful console at the time with the base PS4, the system actually could have been even more power...
I'd love a remake, but not if it would be handled like the Secret of Mana remake. A new entry in the series would be nice too, but I wouldn't have much faith in it. Also, given how the PC port of Chrono Trigger was handled, I don't think SE cares very much about that IP at all, which is a shame because people would pay for a new game or remake. I think SE is just against anything that fans would enjoy, for reasons unknown.
Graphics shouldn't be written off completely, but they're only one component of what makes a game great. Also, you don't need nearly as much power to make cartoony games, let alone produce a 16-bit retro-style indie game. I think power is important to an extent, but I think even the Switch is a fairly competent system in its own right. I love my PS4 because it's the perfect balance of power, yet has more than enough exclusives. The Switch went with lower power, but with th...
How about about a redaction and apology with compensation for all the imposed MTs? Or, you know, an apology that this game exists to begin with.
Sure it can. Konami will just have to redact their decision to MT the heck out of this game and let people have multiple save files for free. As it stands, I'm sure not going to buy it.
I agree with some of this list (seriously Capcom, please bring back Jill), but it seems that the author only plays the most mainstream of games. Of all time becomes more and more difficult to justify as time progresses anyways. Besides, entire genres like JRPGs typically include at least three solid female protagonists (give or take). It's not just JRPGs either. The original Mass Effect Trilogy has more than 5 solid female leads, and that's without including Jane Shepard. The Resi...
And here we have proof that nothing EA says should be taken seriously. EA: "Where are you getting your statistics?" Everyone who's informed: "Sales data. You know, that thing you're supposedly all about."
Fascism is creeping into high schools now? How dare they convince high school students that they can't get into a good college/university if they enjoy certain things? They're making them pledge never to play them too. I'm all for adults joining cults for stupid reasons because they joined them of their own volition, but leave minors out of it. Besides, people who blame violent media for society's problems clearly don't have a good grasp of the issues at hand, and are ...
