I definitely get what you're saying. It is surprising that a studio who seems to have been 'forced' in certain directions has managed to still stand out as a creatively and artistically respected developer.
Also, I'd never really thought about Prey in that way: primarily as a System Shock 2 successor, and secondarily as a "Prey" reboot. I always had those the other way around (Prey reboot first, that happened to ...
I have to say, as a fan of Arkane since the first Dishonored, there was a bittersweet joy in my playthrough of Deathloop (which I platinumed a few days ago). I loved the game, and enjoyed every aspect of it. But I am extremely sad that it may well be the last of their games I play, at least for a while.
In my mind, Arkane was the biggest loss for PlayStation when MS bought Zenimax/Bethesda. As a studio, they've repeatedly shown that they can make quirky, engaging games ...
I too found the history behind the Objects of Power to be the most intriguing part of the game.
More than anything, I'd love a spin off TV series where each episode revolves around members of the Bureau being sent to capture the objects. With the quirkiness of Control, this could work really well - a bit like a cross between Twin Peaks and Loki.
They're working on "original content" as opposed to a remake. Doesn't necessarily mean it's a brand new IP! So Bloodborne is potentially on the cards.
As much as I don't want every Sony game to feel the same, I can't help but feel that a Wolverine game in the vein of 2018's God of War could work quite well.
Also, they recently said in an interview that they wanted to distance themselves from the shooter genre when it came to 007. Hence why they have partnered with IOI for the next Bond game.
@swifty1
Especially on a Soulsborne game where the flow of combat is so important.
That's the main thing I'm hoping for. I tried to play it a couple of months ago, and found the 30fps extremely jarring.
I always promised myself I wouldn't become snobby about frame rates...
Sounds fine to me. There have only been a handful of times when playing a Soulsbourne game where an invasion has been anything less than a frustration for me. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy PVP. But preferably not when I'm exploring an area for the first time and the bonfire is within sight...
@Nakiro - It would have a huge impact on most people's enjoyment.
One of the most striking aspects of playing a Soulsbourne game is the sense of community. Even if all you do is use Fextralife and Reddit to look at the lore, or search for a few tips, you feel part of that community. And as far as community's go, it's one of the best and most welcoming because everybody understands the struggle that all players go through when playing the games.
Oh-oh... I too loved Bloodborne, played the heck out of Demon's Souls and Dark Souls.
I was going to start Dark Souls 2 on my PS5 later this week, but I'm now scared for the lives of my DualSense controllers...
Not even 2 years - only 8 months. January 2021 was the start of this decade.
Just call me Mr Pedantic.
It's a failure of the N4G "agree/disagree" system. Your comment was entirely factual, and described a situation where an opinion was held. Sadly, people disagreed with the opinion that you were factually reporting on, not your report that the opinion was held. It is sad when people can't distinguish factual reporting from personal opinion. But that's the internet for you. (Have an agree from me!)
In any case, there's definitely a distinction betwee...
I have to say, I'm still ever so slightly sceptical about the open world feel (I find it hard to see how it will keep the tight Soulsborne style). But this makes me feel a little more at ease with the idea. Particularly the talk of the Legacy Dungeons and the similarity drawn between one of these and Boletaria from Demon's Souls.
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is the best game in the genre that I've played since the early PS2 days. Granted, I may have missed a few gems along the way, but there's no doubt that Rift Apart is an instant classic. Nothing hugely innovative - just a fantastic adventure!
It would certainly be good fun for those of us who have played BB a few times and know the game fairly well. A nice new challenge!
I agree - any longer and it would have not felt as tight an experience.
With that said, a roguelike mode would work well for Control's sequel.
I was so excited when I first discovered World 1-1 in Dying Light. Just finding the warp pipe was exciting enough, but then to be treated to a (only slightly glitchy) version of the classic level.
Even better though is that the unique equipment for completing the level is actually quite fun and useful for certain other parts of the game. A fantastic example of an easter egg!
I find it really hard to rank them. I've only played Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Demon's Souls (PS5), and can't really separate them.
When I saw the Jak and Daxter one, my eyes were drawn to the logo in the top right, and for a brief moment, I thought it was the logo for a new entry.
Then reality came flooding back and I realised it was just the 20th anniversary logo. :(
