That is what I think was so smart of Sony to do. It's really marketing genius if you think about it.

They launch in NA on the 15th, two weeks before the biggest shopping day of the year, building massive hype for the console.

Then, they launch the console on Black Friday in other countries that don't celebrate it, meaning they'll still get plenty of sales from all of these territories because:

1. They held back stock to ensure sup...

I think what's more upsetting about this news than anything else is how this "waiting list" is over half of what the Wii U has sold to date.

What is Nintendo gonna do about this?

What I find odd is how some customers are suddenly on a waiting list for a console that's still readily available in the Gamestops, Best Buys and Walmarts from my area. And how Gamestop managed to forget to mention that the list included Xbox One as well. How do you make that mistake?

Not saying that my city and the surrounding areas equal the entire country but damn... didn't we just see a story with pictures of hundreds of unsold Xbox Ones, including Day One Edition...

@komp

I'd have to slightly disagree. Personally, and at first site, I think both system's UIs were a bit uncomfortable for me to look at. I'm just not that big a fan of the tile style.

I think both can learn from each other in that regard. With that said, I do think the PS4's UI is all-around quicker and easier to navigate.

As for the hardware, it's obvious. Sony has been making exceptionally high quality hardware for many...

I still don't even understand Penello's excuse.

"In this circumstance, comparing our US number vs. their US number would be like comparing our UK number to their UK number. They don’t have any in the UK yet, so it’s not a fair comparison."

In what alternate universe does that make sense??! The UK has nothing to do with US numbers. They're BOTH being sold currently in the US and the numbers for PS4 pulled far ahead of XBO in that territor...

I'm glad MS was able to sell 1 million units worldwide because that continues to shut down the stupid "console gaming is gonna die" crap.

I do have to say, however, that 1 million units for Xbox One sold worldwide obviously means that only a fraction of that went to the US.... meaning the grip that Sony has on America is massive compared to theirs, and that being their weakest country is a grim foretelling for MS.

I don't think they'll d...

The waiting list for one retailer alone is almost half of Sony's projected sales target for the end of their fiscal year in 2014. That's astronomical.

If they can produce units at three times the speed they currently do, they would probably meet their target before the end of this month. Keep in mind that we're still only talking about North America... that is absolutely insane.

Jaw-dropping.

On a side note, I think it's safe to say that the Xbox One is probably going to match or surpass the Day One sales figures due to a worldwide release, but it wouldn't be nearly as impressive as the PS4's figures, launching in just North America alone for one day.

It's gonna be pretty interesting to add day one sales of the PS4 in all other regions once it has it's worldwide market. I'm predicting some astronomical numbers...

For comparison's sake, in case no one knew:

The PS4 sold over 1 million units within 24 hours in the US alone (obviously).

The PS3 reached 1 million units SHIPPED in the US nearly two whole months after launch in 2006.

Granted, they were allegedly plagued with delays despite everyone saying it was easy to find in stores, but it's still a remarkable difference. I hope they can keep up with demand.

What's more incredible is that the entire list is Polyphony and ND only. Amazing. Still don't know how a strict racing sim like GT sells tens of millions every single time. That's unheard of. The magic that only a hardcore fanbase can bring you.

Yup, and even the small issues that crop up are resolved almost instantly. I don't get how MS keeps stumbling. It's a little sad, they look like they expected to be able to reveal in XBO next year..

This is kind of awkward...

It's not a huge deal; the feature will get there eventually, but I don't understand why every seemingly standard feature is suddenly getting cut in half and launching in remote locations or sometime after launch. Am I mistaken, or was the DVR functionality's temporary restriction ever discussed?

Gotta say, I'm not very surprised.

Microsoft seemed more welcoming of indie developers during the 7th generation and it looks like they decided to try to take advantage of that fact. That gave Sony the perfect opportunity to jump at the chance.

I think the PS3 can last a full 10 years, so 2016 seems fitting. Perhaps a bit earlier for the 360.

@Bundi:

No. Games most definitely should NOT be reviewed based on what is available in the same genre. That makes no sense. Borderlands doesn't get good review scores based off of what Call of Duty is like. Mario isn't reviewed based off of what Rayman is like.

Should games within the same genre be called for reference? Yes, sometimes. But you never give one game a bad score because it doesn't follow a formula set by a different title.

You spelled "PlayStation" wrong.

I hope they make an exception for "Game of the Year" and call it "Games of the Year" instead. Too many incredible titles this year.

The Last of Us, Bioshock Infinite and GTA V alone are a tri-fecta of amazing end-of-a-generation blowout.

I don't really see it being too far of a stretch, and I hope so, too. Isn't Battlefield 4 giving Ghosts a run for its money right now?

The only sad part is knowing that a steady decline in COD popularity (whenever that will ultimately be) won't result in Activision wanting to switch up the formula. I can see them doing just what they did with Guitar Hero when the music fad disintegrated. Or how they abandoned Nintendo after the motion fad went away.

Very true.

The grass is always greener, eh?

Far Cry 3....

THIS is how free game delivery needs to be done! Damn, that's impressive, such a great title that EU gamers get to enjoy for free.
