That does not, by any means whatsoever, take away from the fact that it's reaching that milestone, nor does it take away from how impressive it is.
Japan is always moving. That's why handhelds are huge there. For them to be able to sit down and play a console that has little to offer to that market is an accomplishment under any light.
I agree that consumers will be wanting more from their PS4s. As an owner of both a PS4 and XBO, I would want more from both. But that's where my agreement with you basically ends.
I've had much, much more software being pumped through my PS4 than I have my XBO. On physical disc alone, I have 4 PS4 games and 2 XBO games (the two that I bought when I got it, including Titanfall).
The rest of my software on XBO comes from the free games, which don't ...
@Death:
All those links you mentioned don't hold up in the grand scheme of things. What you failed to realize is that each one of those articles are within the expected major drops in software sales.
Your first was from May 2013.... Just as new consoles were announced. They talk about the lowest since May 2000.... When new consoles were hitting the market. Software always declines at the beginning and end of each generation.
Your other li...
The PS4 sold more than the other two current gen competitors combined...
But yeah, oh man, they did awful this week!
I don't see why you guys are freakin out, MS is just doing what any college student would do. Not look at their bank account because the amount they know they'll see is either really low or in the negatives. hahaha
Bi-polar marketing is all the rage at MS. I always question their faith in the XBO when they do things that seem so very "look at me!"-ish like this. Having the console's high points speak for themselves obviously wasn't doing much, so I honestly can't blame them for doing anything they can, but damn...
@Blaze
Bruh.
With all due respect, you summed up exactly why stories like this continue to gain ground. Both parties are reading a bit too much into it. While MS may very well be putting this out there as a "salty attack" of sorts, I don't think their motive was "win" anything. What the hell are they winning? They haven't won a damn thing this entire generation. What it does positively for them is make people aware of another versi...
Actually, I am too.
I have www.youtube.com/TV bookmarked on my PS4 browser and it literally takes seconds to get into the "app".
It's faster than any other YouTube app I have, as a matter of fact. And that's coming from someone who has an Xbox 360, XBO and PS3 at home with the dedicated app installed.
The announcement that the new Tomb Raider was an Xbox exclusive was met with backlash partly due to the fact that TR is still a very PlayStation franchise, but MOSTLY due to the fact that it didn't make sense to suddenly make an exclusive sequel to the reboot released on all platforms, especially with how much more successful it was on PlayStation.
Had the original reboot failed and needed to be bought out by a publisher in order to develop a follow-up (Bayonetta 2), then...
If we look back to previous generations, it tends to be the console with the best public image within the first year of availability that wins the war on sales.
Granted, there have been generations in the past where more than one or even all consoles have good public image, but there's always one that has a broader mass appeal that takes it. The NES, SNES, PlayStation, PS2, Wii and PS4. Of course, the Wii ended with probably the worst public image, but that first year was...
1. Are you directing that comment toward someone named "dealwithit"? I think you meant #dealwithit
2. The news literally just broke today, can you give people some time to talk about it? Damn, it's like you're telling fans of an old PlayStation franchise to ignore the fact that they can't play it (in 2015, at least)
Definitely eliminates the confusion.
And now that there's nothing but anger over what will most likely just turn out to be a timed exclusive in the new Tomb Raider, MS can just sit back knowing people think that it's exclusive forever, while the developers (and SE) of the game just get bombarded with hatred and a bad image for alienating their biggest fan base.
Sounds like Square made a good choice striking a deal with MS! -_- */s

It's well over 7+ million by now.
I knew it all along, though. When a game is exclusive for good, they say that "this game is coming exclusively to the Xbox One." Period. They don't, nor would they ever say "this game is coming exclusively to the Xbox One in 2015."
It's a tactic both Sony and MS have used for a while now to give the illusion of full exclusivity.
On another note, there's no way they would mi...
From the article:
"It's interesting that Microsoft is willing to more or less state that it's in the No. 2 spot, but that it's going to keep fighting."
But it's not No. 2. It's actually No. 3.
I'm not saying it's going to end this generation in last place, but I don't like how Nintendo is ignored every generation during sales talk (even though it's mostly their fault). They frickin won last genera...
Agreed. It sounds counter-intuitive but keeping the price to at least $400 is really the only option they have right now and cutting price might only cause more damage.
I chalk it up to The Curse of the Third Console. Good or great debut, much more successful second coming and arrogance/pride destroys the third.
On one note, I would advise Microsoft to re-evaluate their goals and long term endeavors. They tend to always be that 12 year old kid that wants what...
@Godmars
Exactly. Microsoft is primarily a software company and so they naturally think like a software company. I think that the XBO is suffering this generation because of that reason.
When selling proprietary hardware, you have to have your sights set to the leadership position, not necessarily to become "everybody's box". It sounds odd because, why wouldn't they want their box in every home? The thing about making and selling hardware is...
It was also the last console generation last generation when we were dealing with studio shutdowns and relying on expensive AAA titles to feed our most expensive console lineup of the century to date, before indies gave the industry a new wind.
Console gaming will die when it's time, it's best we just stop trying to predict it and enjoy this form of gaming while we can.
You can consider that "impressive" till the cows come home, kiddo. That still won't mask the fact that it's currently a last place console (coming from someone who owned one before buying a PS4, mind you).
Funny how 5 million shipped in 13 countries is impressive, yet none of the records broken by the PS4 are. The fact that a cheaper XBO barely made a dent in Sonys success is even more impressive.
A return on all policies, a killer app in th...
When I went to buy my PS4 earlier this week, I saw a group of kids with their mom looking at games. They went to the XBO and said "oh, yeah this is the new xbox, pretty cool" then immediately said "where's the Ps4??" When they found it, they said "here it is! THIS is what I want! Looks, it's soo cool, the graphics are awesome!!" Then proceeded to beg their mom for the last box on the shelf.
I couldn't help but smile. Not because I lov...
@zeuanimals
A price drop is called a price drop when the price is dropped, son... Going from $399 to $399 is not a price drop, regardless of what you include.
And even if, in some fashion, you were to believe otherwise, the XBO included a ridiculous amount of games with every bundle, and dropped the price on top of that. With this, the PS4 still managed to be top seller. Not in the US, but on Earth, where it counts.
I'm glad MS was able t...
