Sony seems to have taken on this sort of "natural, up-front and honest" attitude since they announced the PS4, which really looks to be working in their favor.
They picked the right generation to do it, especially considering they look so sure of themselves while their closest competitor is constantly trying to explain themselves over and over again.
@george:
I find it really hard to believe that you're actually this delusional.
I would continue this post by completely tearing yours to shreds and humiliating you, but it seems as if you do a pretty good job at that yourself. Keep up the good work, man!
I think that, either way you look at it, the overwhelming backlash that the XBO seems to get - whether justified or not - really can't be good for their reputation.
This sort of stuff (even if the majority were to be trolls) tends to leak into the mainstream and leave a bad mark on the console.
It's bad enough people are hating on Windows 8 and ignoring Windows Phones despite some of them actually being pretty good and quite powerful. The whole "...
@WrAiTh
Arguably is the right word.
Ryse looks like nothing spectacular in both graphical capability and gameplay. On the XBO alone, the next Forza looks much better than that. Across the board, I'd go as far as to say that the latest God of War looks better than Ryse.
This article is completely disposable.
For a journalist to go out of their way and say that one anticipated console is destroying another is complete opinion and speculation.
If I were to put some money on this prediction, I would say it's wrong. Think about this one:
It's video game console.. focused on cable television integration.. made by an American company.. America.. a country that continues to lose cable subscribers at an alar...
I loved the 360 controller this generation and I thought it was very well developed for the most part, but when it comes to software, I felt like the PS3 gave me more quality titles to choose from.
I was absolutely sold from the moment I played the first Uncharted and the fact that games only got better and better since then, I would have been totally satisfied sticking with just one console. Had I not spent so much money interacting with all 3, I would do it all over again f...
As much as I agree with you on the fact that the power brick flaming - although surprising that it even exists - was blown way out of proportion, the benefits of having an external power brick are extremely minimal.
The only real benefit to be seen from power bricks is that they tend to convert voltage more efficiently than those with external power supplies. What makes this uncertain in this case is that the XBO is massive itself and power consumption, with or without the po...
You'd think that, which such a future-proof "vision" (which is pretty much gone at this point) for a console, they would think to go for something a little more... efficient?
It's bad enough that their audience had to hunt for batteries for over 7 years. Now they gotta do it all over again! Here's to another 8 years of buying AA packs and stealing batteries from the living room remotes!
I think they meant "He Who Must Not Be Named"
As absolutely absurd as I think it is that they opted for the AA battery approach, I don't see this as much of a problem. It would have been much worse if they didn't include any at all.
The simple fact that they didn't stray away from using AA batteries, however, is the ridiculous part. I still can't wrap my head around that concept.
And if software pre-order number are any indication, it looks like the PS4 is the favorable console for the next generation in the States, too (not even taking into account how well the hardware itself has been preselling in the US).
And this is all despite the fact that the PS4 has a "weaker launch lineup" according to some web-dwellers.
I would have said the same thing, but I almost forgot that the PS3 has an easily replaceable HDD so I'm sure people can find one for cheap and just buy this SKU.
Either way, I would buy the GTA V bundle instead.
I JUST got done posting about how selfish it was to put added features behind a paywall on the XBO.
Then I come across this.
And proceed to laugh.
Poor Microsoft.
My point exactly.
People continue to defend this selfish move by saying "so what? you're gonna want it for online gaming, anyway!" or "I'm not getting Live for these add-on features"
That's the issue right there. It doesn't justify the paywall just because you're "probably gonna get Live anyway." In an upcoming generation where your competitor is more powerful, leads in pre-order hardware and software and has ...
lol
That's a great deal considering how expensive the Vita is by itself and how well the two will be working together. If I didn't already own a Vita, I'd probably jump at the chance.
@minimur12:
Excellent point right there. Since 2007, countless journalists and analysts were predicting digital distribution to completely overtake physical media preference by the end of this generation (a bunch of which even said this would happen by 2010) and yet, when a system meant for that only launched, it did poorly. Even here in 2013, physical media isn't going anywhere.
Honestly, I can't see this whole "cloud power" mumbo-jumbo bec...
The truth is, you can't really tell if they were too ahead of the times yet because we... haven't seen the future yet.
In today's world, we see the Dreamcast as being ahead of its time because of all the innovative features it had in the box (namely online capabilities). However, at the time of its launch, it was just an unnecessary feature.
There have been plenty examples of both sides of the spectrum. We see something that looks to be "ahea...
Oh, no way! Tell me more!
-_-
On topic, that sort of strategy just doesn't work if you're competing in an environment like the ones that the PS4 and One are coming into.
I can understand starting buzz around saying that finding your console is going to be very difficult during the holidays because it may portray interest, but apart from that, I don't think it would work.
I was thinking the same thing...
Whether a lot of games put the function into their game or not, complaining about having to "look down" at essentially another button is hilarious.
How often do you look down at a touchpad on a laptop? How often do you look down before pressing a button on your traditional gaming controllers?
Either you're extremely new to technology or you're just being nitpicky. Either way, it's comical...
