This could be embaressing for MS. If Sony release a new SKU for PS2, smaller, cheaper, then the venerable console could last another 3-4 years easily. If they transform it into a portable DVD player combination, then another 5 years lifespan. Heck - it could bury two XB consoles before it stops being a viable. And the way it is going now - with new titles still being released - it could just do exactly that.
If you look at the last year sales, then the PS3 is ahead, and XB360 and PS2 is about par. If the PS2 drops another bit, then it will again get some traction in the bottom end. The PS2 must cost ver little to make now. Sony can nearly release it as a portable - like the portable DVD players. I will get one if they do - and it could give it another 5 years of life. Imagine - a portable PS2 / DVD player with thousands of dirt cheap high quality game library. It would be awesome.
If tou look at the PS2 sales, it is for year on year nearly par with XB360 and behind the PS3. It will have a 10 year life. The PS3 will have a 10 year life as well. MS would have struggled as well if they hada BR drive in - instead they have a drive that scratches disks and sounds like a small aircraft taking off. My PS3 is easily the most used device in my home - at the moment it is playing music (Nicolas Louw) while I am having braai with boerewors.

The way that code is written for the PS3 makes for a better XB360 game than a game started on XB360. The reason is that to run code well on a PS3 code has to be written differently. The PS3 will still be the better version, but the quality of the XB360 version improves as well. So all in all - it is better for both platforms if the code starts on the PS3 platform.
By now they have learned how to program for the PS3. The software improves over time... and I don't think they sat on their thumbs with the engine since the last game release.

It is supersampling / sub sampling. Higher / lower resolution rendered, then downscaled / upscaled for output.
The PS3 is natively 720p, the XB360 used this technique to get some extra AA going. So yes - the XB360 should be a bit smoother / softer (ie better) due to this. Have an install option. Install high res textures to hard disk, and use low res texture where HD is not available.
After 5 hours of analyzing a screen they came to the conclusion that maybe a blade of grass looked more bright on the one and awarded it the title of winner. I am so glad. Would not be able to enjoy the games without knowing it.

XB360 drive is noisy, BR in PS3 is not
BR disks don't scratch like DVD's do (altough the PS3 does not scratch the DVD's
So all in all - it makes more sense for XB360 to have installs

Real time tracking of many objects - with control data - the network will be laggy if you have a less than stellar service provider. Local area network - massive LAN parties yes - online - I have my doubts - especially in South Africa.
Most games, including MGS4 is possible on the XB360. Only games like GT5 where you have massive tracks and massive car models will become a problem when you want to be able to race all cars on all tracks. It will add a couple of DVD's to the equation.
With MGS4 you might have some cutscenes with 10 minutes of play on a DVD, or simply cut out the cutscenes. Maybe tone down some of the physics, but I can not see anything that would make it less playable on the XB360.

The review industry must be collecting statements like "just another fps", and "copies x feature from COD" (like it has a gun for starters) to keep this one on a low metacritic score.
Don't seem as if they have much more polishing to do on it. Seems to be on track for the Feb 2009 release date.
Loved the first KZ. Still play it more now even than Army of Two or COD4. First day buy.
Some seems to think this means that FF is not coming to the PS3 anymore. Hell... all this means is that PS3 and XB360 owners can play this game. Not that I am interested in FF... just never got into this type of game...
