What a good and well written article this is. I guess it helps that enjoyed the game and can therfore see it from his perspective, but its more than that.
There are so many wannabe writers calling themselves games journalists and yet failing to be able to write with any passion or knowledge or intellignece, that its genuinely pleasing to read an article thats well written and intelligent on a subject I actually care about.

Its not just the service, its the demographic of the people who use the service that exaberate the problem on Xbox live.

Your right - Mario is the one title that almost makes it worth owning. I've not liked anything else...
...and yes having both machines is way to go. The video out circuitry of the PS3 is demonstrably superior, and as it plays HD discs without an addon, and more importantly , without making all the racket and heat that the 360 makes, I'll keep on with that for my movie viewing.

Square have developed some the greatest games over the years, and they havew also been very inventive when entering new genres (Einhander on PSX remains one of my favourite shoot-em-ups ever).

This happened to me 4 times in a row in the same fight. I got completely spegitified, and couldn't do anything at all. The only command that worked was to order your companions to a spot- had to turn off the machine and rebbot every time. It was funny the first time, but after the forth I was thinking I mioght never manage to finish that battle. I was very relieved when I got through without the bug!
I had plenty of other bugs, most just glitche...
Don't know why people are saying its a PS3 problem - the 360 version freezes loads of times - I've had as least 6 reboots from this game on my 360. Its shoddy code, no matter which platform.
I totally agree with you mate. But I'm a gamer, like you, and we are not the people that nintendo are appealing to.
Persoanlly I despise their 'broadening of the demographic' because they've all but stopped making titles for the likes of you and me as they can make millions selling to our mums instead.

I'm sorry, but I totally disagree with you.
The price point was not only similar to its launch of PS2 and original PSX, but it represented good value for the level of tech it provided to the 'techies' and other early adopters who are the most likely to purchase in a machines first year. I paid more for imported versions of both the PSX and the PS2 than I did for the PS3.

I finished it last week with 43 hours of playing time put in. I liked it a lot and would give it 9/10 myself, but the critiscms I've heard about it from reviews that have given lower scores, have beeen fair critiscms. There is no way a game with this many technical issues should ever get a 10/10. I had to completely reboot the 360 on 5 occasions due to technical issues and glitches with this game...

The analisis of the figures is pretty wierd? If about 50% of users have 2 or more discs, I would suggest thats a lot for a machine thats primarily a games console?
Its caertainly a lot of people in terms of the installed HD base - evidenced by the sale for blu ray in comparison with HD dvd. It may only be 2 to 1 in the US. but its mudering it everywhere in the world and that will be mainly down to the PS3.

I'm afraid the Niko intercooler makes it even noisier mate. There are also many reports that it could actually make the machine less reliable.

NPD has a far far greater sample size , across a bigger demographic of games sellers, than VGchartz is ever likely to achieve.
Historically, NPD has always been extremely accurate, whereas VGchartz has proved to be wide of the mark in many of its previous figures.

Whilst I DO see the 'fobbing off' of the PS3 port to EA as a political statement from the seriously anti- PS3 Gabe, the addition of a few graphical effects to the engine is NOT likely to interfere with the framerate of the game as a whole.
Framerate issues WILL occurr when an engine developed for a PC architecture is ported to the PS3 and not radically reconstructed. Trying to run that code using just the GPU, will result in issues, and we've all seen the results of these poor ports an...
