That gave me a great laugh I have to say! Looking at this low res pretty last gen tech demo, I found it hard to believe that epope, were trying to suggest this was '360' or PS3 graphics.
If thats the best it can do when its not having to run actual game code (with pysics , AI and numerable other resource hogs)then it really isan't going to blow anyones socks off in a real world game, and to claim its comparable with 360 and PS3 is just laughable.
If its a step u...
What an excellent and well informed article. Its rare to read insightful journalism of this kind about any subject these days, and that's especially true of gaming.
No surprises then, that its an Edge article. Though dour in overall tone, and not the kind of fawning homage that fanboys seem to desire, it gives an excellent insight into the games undoubted strengths and where it stands with regards to its history. I don't always agree with Edge conclusions, but the read is alway...
Rubbish. Third party games sell almost nothing on the WII, thats an absolute fact, and much debated by the industry.
Any of the Dev house that want to make money from the WII's extraordinary success are having to create new departments or dev house's to develop 'casual' style games and yet more party games, and you can see evidence of this from all the big dev houses.
If a company like Epic, who have expertise in the tech heavy games we have played for years, wan...
'source? till then it's hogwash.'
WTF? Are you incapable of dividing one figure by another? It's not adavanced calculus, and if type clac in a run box you don't even have to move away from your keyboard!
Take any set of software sales results for a given period from any source. Divide software sales, by total install base to get the ratio of owners who bought a software title in that given time period. You can even multiply it by 100 to get a precentage if you fi...
Another round of PR Bull from MS, but I don't know why anyone is surprised? These guys are paid money to talk rubbish and somehow spin data so it looks good for their company... thats what they do.
What has been a shock to me is how they have been so totally arrogant over the last few months - the tone of their press releases may sound OK in the US, but in Europe and the UK we're a little more self effacing, and this kind of attitude actually does more harm than good. If you li...
Nobody could possibly take your comment seriously!
This 'bought to play blu ray's' nonsense should have ended a long time ago, as the monthly attach rate for PS3 owners is far higher than the monthly attach rate for 360 owners. Thats not just in Europe either, its been that way in the States for ages now.
So let just get this clear, each and every PS3 owner buys games more regularly than each and every 360 owner. Thats a provable and irrefutable fact based on eve...
I was hit by this issue too, but this guy is really tryign to milk it by trying to include 'car shopping time'.
Though I was prepared to wait 10 minutes for the HD install (I simply went and mad a cup of tea), it was somewhat galling that the game then immediately detected a new version and I had to wait ages for a complete update to download. It really should have checked the version BEFORE the HD install to save wasted time. It could also advise you to get the new version, bu...
I'm uprised to see it happening already in the US as I thought it would take a long time before the situations reversed, but it looks like this trend will continue for some time.
I had to have a wry chuckle at the phrase 'edged out'!! :)
According to his figures, PS3 sold 18% more than 360 over last month. That's a pretty thick edge!
As always we have to wait for the NPD figures to give us the most accurate figures of the US market. We all know wha...
Gamers are very right to be wary of E.A's moves for the GTA series.
A much loved franchise that relies on quirks and 'pushing the boundaries' could only be diluted by such an acquisition, if not completely destroyed.
I worked for Bullfrog when were 'absorbed' by the corporate behemoth that is E.A. I've witnessed first hand how their company structure destroys creativity and stops any inventiveness and drives away real talent.
Despite mouthing platitudes, I'm not ...
I have to agree with the above post.
As a digital artist/animator by trade, I need a decent image. I've never seen a set work well under normal presets - they are derived to try and induce a 'wow factor' in a high street store, and are not even close to being correct or suitable for use at home.
I use the test patterns and cards used on the 'Digital video essentials disc' and I'd recommend that anyone with a decent TV does likewise if they want to see what their...
Though I admire your enthusiasm, the point of the controller is to compete directly with Wii games, so the emphasis here is definately on 'family' party games.
I worked on one of these as long ago as last november and am currently doing work on another. Neither title would be exciting to a 'core' gamer.
Maybe a few more interesting titles will surface, but from experience of whats in developement, I wouldn't bet on it.
Total and utter rip off.
Whilst I'm sure the peripherals from the states will work on a UK machine, you must remember that the game itself is region locked and the US version will not play here. I'm sure that the grey importing is the reason that they chose to region lock this title, as most 360 titles are not region locked....
PS3 has no region locking, so importing a Ps3 version might be better, but godamit, I want a second guitar for my 360 :(
That this is coming is of no suprise. I've mentioned it here on two seperate occasions.
I've worked on two titles for the 360 using this controller.
Both are 'familly' party games, and not the kind of title that would get N4G excited.
I personally think sony got it right with simple six axis controls in the standard controller. Games can, and mianly are, played with standard control layout, but when a bit of motion sensing makes sense, its right there, and titles ...
A company with no abillity to write decent games engines, and old devs who simply can't keep up with modern tech, needs to buy an engine to be able to produce anything that runs at a stable frame rate...
...whilst its pretty sad that the world biggest dev house is so utterly devoid of any talent, at least it means that some of the titles they ship might actually have some decent tech behind them.
E.A. are the devil incarnate.
They think they can charge the earth as the demands there. The fact they are ripping us all off doesn't even figure into there equations.
That they are the devil cannot be disputed - I worked for them and it was really hell. Really!:)
'but the DS is a console all its own.'
...well yeah, but so was the 'virtua boy' and the least said about that the better.
Being unique is not always brilliant! However, the few time the DS has done it for me has been when its made good use of its unique features, so you do have a point....
As for the argument that a PSP is somehow 'less worthy' because you can play similar games on your home system misses the point - its portable people!!!
I don''t...
Sorry dude - but you are so wrong.
I'm not gonna pretend that the DS has not had some inventive games, but it also packs untold levels of shovelware and is home to some of the worst software of this generation. I can see why it appeals to kids and grannies, but as a gamer I find I hardly ever turn mine on despite having a M3 simply and stack of titles. The PSP however, still gets attention in this house, and it speaks volumes that my wife had to get her own PSP, as she got tire...
Absolutely - I've been thinking this for ages.
I love the GT games, and despite the obvious flaws of not having a damage model, I almost prefer that to many games that do have them 'forced on you'.
@Lachance
I'll agree that the US and European markets are also big consumers of RPG's if not huge.
The install base for 360 in the US is indeed double the PS3 and must be factor, as even though the PS3 is outselling the 360 in that market, its not enough to close that gap anytime soon.
But in europe its almost a done deal - the PS3 has been handily outselling the 360 for a long time now - and the first bunch of sale data since the europe price drop still ...
The WII is aimed fairly and squarely at casual gamers, and its attracted them very well.
By their very definition, casual gamers buy less games than the audiences of other consoles.
Nintendo don't care. With so many units out there (each one generating a profit) the actual units sold is still fairly healthy and is almost entirely first party content that sells.
The fact mine gathers dust won't mean a thing to them and they can happily laugh all the way to the ban...
