Absolutely - its pretty pathetic really... but I'm afraid the entire site is overrun with trolls of one flavour or another.
Its becomeing difficult to find the real news in amoung the flame bait, and god help you if you want a serious discusssion that doesn't turn into a flame war...
@beardtm
Just stop it - your making the rest of Brits look stupid.
Apologies to anyone else getting tired of this puerile jingoist.
...and for the record, that TV is bloody awful and certainly nothing to 'show off about'. TV has certainly come a long way since that kind of soft focused lack of contrast set could command a decent review, and plenty of people reading this will have far superior set to yours, including myself with my x3500 bravia (xb...
Ambient occlusion maps are greyscale images, and as such, are not a big drain on memory at all - there is certainly no need to use a low resolution that would cause graininess. Indeed, the only graininess I've seen in AO maps comes from 3D artists who don't know how to set up the ray tracer to achieve decent smooth results. AO maps are often baked into the vertices's as lighting info anyway (the last two next gen engines I worked on used this method) so the texture map isn't even stored. Ther...
Many of the companies have made bad decisions, but theres no way a company as savy as Microsoft would make a decision as stupid as this in todays market. I'm amazed that websites would purport such ridiculous rumor's and speculation when they so obviously would destroy a business that Microsoft have carefully tried to build and nurture.
There's no point in explaining whats so wrong with these daft assumptions, as any one of you with any common sense can see why this would be the stupid...
We've had this in the UK for some time now.
My wife got it for Christmas.
Much to my shame, I've had many a night of drunken warbling with this title and can report its a lot more fun than it has any right to be - I hate karaoke! :)
The on line store is also excellent, as are the other community features and things like the camera integration.
If your 'significant other' is insisting that this title makes an appearance in your house, don't d...
Actually - Dave is worth 100 of you little keyboard warrior idiots.
I worked with him a Bullfrog and he was a producer who was heavily involved with some of the coolest games around, and was an all round decent bloke too. Since then he's set up a great company of his own and makes a mint by selling millions of games, something you will never achieve!
If you find the article bland, then please criticize the journalist or the submitter or approvers of the article. ...
I have to agree - I have the same set, though its known as the x3500 here in the UK.
Best LCD on the market bar none, and if you set it up right, has black levels that can match the best plasma's. Love it.
Some nice sets there, but its not an exhaustive list by any means!
My own x series bravia beats most of these sets hands down (as it should considering what it costs), but isn't in the list, and there are several other notable ommisions! :)
This could certainly shape up to be a classic game. It looks like the analogue stick combat system will really work, and its looking technically strong.
I understand the points raised here about 'repetitive combat', but it needs to be stressed, that the original intent of this game is an RPG in nature, not a combat action adventure, and in that light, a little repetition in combat is welcome to me. Indeed, for an RPG, the combat looks exceptional, and certainly better than most of its ...
At least bother reading a point if your are going to reply to it!
Nowhere did I suggest you should personally like the game or that your view was not valid.
You have written a comment on a review of game, asking 'whats the purpose of making a flashy new version of the series'
Far from beign a rant - I merely pointed out that flashy new versions of existing games are pretty much the most popular games.
You did ask the point in a forum that invites an answer,...
"Whats the point of bringing out a new version of a much loved and successful IP with flashy new content and features?"
You've got to be kidding, right?
Try naming a game that has people salivating that is NOT a follow up to a series - you'll be hard pushed as new IP's are thin on the ground, with Mass effect and Bioshock springing to mind as obvious exceptions, though they are obviously having sequels themselves.
If you limit yourself to only pl...
Only one desperate lame person spreading fud here is you pal - and your desperation is pathetic to behold.
I couldn't care less what you believe. Unlike you, I have owned and continue to own all games machines, and have developed games for over 15 years for the largest publishers in the business. Indeed I am credited on previous incarnations of this very title, GTA3 on the xbox, and have worked on 3 different 360 titles in the last year alone. I have no 'drum to bang' and I ta...
What exactly is your point?
Are you somehow confusing the UK with Europe? The UK is the strongest region for the 360 in the entirety of Europe, and these figures are the UK only.
....and since when has 'user base difference' not been an issue?
With twice the number of owners of one format, it would be stupid not to factor that into any analysis of figures? Surely?
Unless of course you merely want to troll and use any statistic as an emotiona...
Absolutely!
Given the install base of the machines - the 360 version should have had 66% of the market if the same proportion of machine owners bought it. (Assuming its about 2 to 1 install base)
The figures would suggest that higher proportion of PS3 owners have bought this game so far - but I'm willing to bet that shortages of stock and so forth will affect this number, so the real figures are subject to change. What it would suggest though, is that the heavy marketting campai...
No - apparently the issue is prevelant on both machines.
I've beeen playing my 360 version for 5 days with no issues.
I feel very sorry for anyone who does have issues, as this is a game thats deserves to be played and enjoyed by everyone no matter which machine they are using.
Lets hope Rockstar get on top of the issues very quickly.
Then please give yourself a kicking mate as you suggested, because the rate of data access is exactly what this issue is all about and the poster that you flamed was making very valid technical points.
I've been developing games for more than 15 years now, and can guarantee you that the rate of data access IS DEFINITELY what causes the 'pop-in ' effect in this, and other games. Why do you think PC games and many PS3 games install data on a hard drive if there was no advantage i...
There is no Hard drive install my friend - and its most likely that thats will explain the pop in that people are talking about.
I have to say, though it doesn't spoil the game at all, pop in is very noticeable in the 360 game, which I've been playing for 6 days now. Most of the time its OK, but you can see whole buildings pop in suddenly, or turn a corner fast and suddenly a fire hydrant appears right next to you, or run into a yard and stand for 5 seconds before the grass mag...
Its simply due to storage space restrictions - no more no less.
If people really think that having a full screen TV watching session in your in-game apartment is a big plus point, then thats pretty sad, but buy that version.
I really don't think most people are going to worry about this particular feature, and all it tells is about the relative strengths of the machines is that theres more room on a blu ray disc than a DVD - something we've all know for a very lo...
Its simply chasing a market it doesn't have.
I think Microsoft has done what it has this gen very well, but I fear its losing focus. Nintendo are the people who know how to attract casual non-gamers, and thinking they are going to grab a slice of this market with a copycat controller is wide of the mark. I've personally worked on two games for this unit, and both are casual games that would not interest the majority of games players reading this site. I think its a shame that ...
Wow - still an amazing amount of HD DVD supporter es flogging a dead horse in here, with the usual misinformation lies and general ignorance thats indicative of the breed.
These are the same people that regularly post in PS3 threads that 'people only buy the PS3 as a blu ray player'! The figures show thats clearly not the case...
I believe this week that we've also had news that blu ray disc sales had trebled, so it looks like the format is doing OK to me, and i...
