I can only talk about the screen shots I see, and resolution of the meshes is pretty easily deduced from the profile edges of the objects on screen.
In these days of Normal Mapping its not easy to see poly counts from the way the light scatters across the surface, as this is exactly what the normal mapping controls, so the most obvious indicator of geometry density is the profile edges - the 'silhouette' if you prefer.
I make game art assets for a living, so I automatica...
This looks great - nice and colourful and sharp, which is just what this franchise requires.
Not a lot on screen and its not a huge poly count, but that doesn't matter when the results enjoyable and I look forward to seeing a lot more from this title.
Theres not been enough platformers for me this gen, so a return to form for Banjo would be excellent news!
Wake up dude and learn a little about games dev before making yourself seem more ignorant. I'm not bothering to retype it all, but if your interested in seeing proof that the KZ2 engine uses a 24 bit texture pipeline, then see my replies and links above.
Your continuing pseudo technical ignorance marks you out as incredibly biased, with no intention other than knocking what looks to be a brilliant game. If you don't like the art direction of KZ2 then can't like the art directi...
Sorry mate - but you are obviously extremely confused.
What you can do to improve the performance of a video card on a PC has absolutely no relevance to the design of a game engine, which is a very different thing altogether - though I can see how you could be confused if your not working this stuff for a living.
If you are actually interested in the tech of this game engine and wish to check that all textures use 24 bit colour depth check out this paper which wi...
Sorry, but to argue that they have dropped colours to save memory is possibly the daftest comment I've ever read here.
All textures in KZ2 are 32 bit. 24 bit colour space with 8 bit alpha space.
This is a fact. I've been a games artist for over 15 years, and you can trust me on this, the game engine architecture is optimized to push 32 bit data for the textures - it would gain nothing at all by dropping a few bits here and there, and there has NEVER been a game ...
This game was huge disapointment on the 360 and real waste of time.
Theres a reason they're selling it cheap - its the gaming equivilant of the 'straight to video store' movies.
Oh the hypocrisy is almost tangible bloodmask.
Much as I despise the rampant trolling and fanboy rubbish in here to, your own blind faith in singular manufacturer has caused many a long time user of the site to sigh at you outright prejudices.
Where are all the pathetic comments about how the PS3 architecture couldn't possibly run GOW? This site was full of them on any thread you could care to examine 8 months ago? That particular nonsense was dispelled when the ...
It's not much of a surprise and theres no way they made an honest mistake.
Their 'leanings' have been exposed more than once, but they were stupid enough to make it obvious this time.
If you can follow the convoluted lines of their funding and ownership (and believe me, its not easy), you can find a trail all the way to a certain Seattle based company...
Whatever. These kind of lame comparison sites only influence a handful of Fan boys who suck it ...
Why?
Because both titles are expected to be ambassadors for the very best graphics the console can offer of course!
A huge proportion of the readers of this site love to 'have a go' at one machine or another, and having just seen all the in game HD Killzone 2 footage, theres no question this footage was released in response.
You can only compare visual fidelity from such videos of course, and infer what the game play will be like, so graphic compar...
OK - a bit more of the same with some more polish and some sweet game play tweaks. Count me in - the first was a blast! :)
Gears always looked great and this is no exception, but I do find the UT engine look a bit over-used, and whereas the first one was the finest looking game on a console at its time, I'm not convinced that this will be - but hey, thats a subjective opinion. I wish they put a bit of colour in the characters, if you ignore the backgrounds its almost monochrome...
Read my reply carefully and you'll see the only backing I give to Boris's piece is that he raises a valid point. I also admire his writing, which has always been worthwile reading weather i agree or not! :)
I make games for a living, and certainly wouldn't do so if I believed they were inherently bad for society or kids.
There plenty of things that are good about games - but not instead of reading and using some imagination, but in conjunction with it.
As ...
Hmmm. Now they can phone each other and talk about how hungrey they are...
..seriously, I'm all for helping developing countries, but surely it makes sense to start with the basics? So many people die of hunger or thirst or contrat terribble desease through unclean water. Can't we use our time and effrot ot get the basic right? Who cares if the chief can get online and read N4G, when the rest of village is ill or starving?
Cool - be interesting to see how the UT engine is evolving, as it has some serious competition in the works!
Sounds like they got some great new gameplay ideas though, so I'm gonna get me some of this!
edit
lol at the phantom disagree!
I'm not gonna get it?
Their gameplay ideas aren't great?
Its not intersting to see what they have?
Oh - I get it, theres no serious competition to the Unreal Tech! Sorry but the COD 4 engine is seriously goo...
God bless Boris... may Kens evil heart burn in hell. Ken made London such a nightmare I had to move away... :)
The person that actually writes the biggest tosh is Bruce himself!!
This is the same arrogant tosser that tried to claim all kids should play GTA, and his writing is by far the biggest tripe I read on the web dressed up as pseudo-intellectualism. Of course he's not actually that stupid and tends to pick topics and 'stances' that attract footfall to his b...
If your looking to waste far too much time - you can hack Guitar hero and create your own tracks. There are some great tools to enable you to do this and to enable you to arrange your own notes etc... check out 'scorehero for access to tools - though beware of some of the down loadable charts as they vary in quality from excellent to awful.
Of course you need a hacked machine to do it ( a PS2, or a hacked 360), but with a bit of patience you can create your own custom Guitar he...
Whatever the relative merits of the arguments, for a manufacturer of one machine to start coming out and attacking a rival in this manner is quite pathetic and shows that Microsoft and it marketers will stop at nothing to try and gain a competitive edge - something countries around the world already know from the various anti trust suits which show MS have no boundaries. Say what you like about Sony and its stupid marketing claims (and some were truly stupid), they try and gain ground by 'tal...
Sorry mate I don't see your point?
Can I see when a game is higher resolution? Yes.
Is it desirable to have a higher resolution? Yes.
If I were to accept your assertions (and the claims of various others), then I would have to accept that the WII is high def, as my TV upscales it! But it plainly doesn't look as good as a 720P machine, which in turn doesn't look as good as a 1080P display.
Many of the people in here who seem to be suggesting that th...
Hooray! It gamerTV back, except they've had to call it something dofferent for copyright reasons!
I'm setting my sky+ box to record it now... :)
Cheers for the info - I have two of those, so I DO have some 360 games that support it! I would be very fair to say that a LOT more PS3 games support it though - I don't have a full list but a vey large number of PSN titles do, and at least a dozen disc based games..
supporting 1080P was always going to be a bigger option for the PS3 of course, as this is the native resolution of HD movies! For most people, its a debateable advantage at best, but its welcome for some of us.

Carfeful mate - I mentioned it in passing too and Bloodmask immediately assumed I had 'bionic eyes'.
I know from other posts you are fellow 3D artist - some people fail to appreeciate, when you do it for a living, you can't help but notice!
