Apparently its locking on both machines. I've seen posts about freezes with this title on 360 as well PS3...

Rockstar are a great, but their QA department is no so good - try playing Bully on 360 for a perfect example of a bugged out mess!

Still I've playued my 360 copy for a long time with no freezes. Plenty of weird glitches of course, but every GTA game has these...:)

Absolutely.

The scaled images are an excellent way to see the dither effects that are often seen on 360 renders.

Far from having a 'vasaline' effect as some trolls would like to claim, the PS3 simply renders to smoother blends instead of dithering, and this results in its smoother look.

This is indisputable from the images.

Well thanks for the compliment!

In many ways I agree with your assement that memory will limit what is achieved on the machines, but thats only because developers are not encouraged to 'think outside the box' and rely on the tried and tested methods they learned on PCS. These involve holding complex models and textures in RAM and squirting them to the video card for for rendering when the game code calls for it.

I understand the time constraints dev's have which ...

Except of course anyone reading your previous posts here will plainly see you are not a guy who's opinion is consistant.. and you seem incredibly ready to dismiss the findings of pretty relaible reviewers.
You or the reviewers? I know who I'd trust..
I've been playing 360 version for 5 days now and expect my PS3 version shortly, so I can see for myself soon.

I think your missing the point - it has to be compelling in order for it to be a reasonable 'carrot' to the masses.

One of the reasons people enjoy playing GTA so much is the open sandbox nature of the game. I'm still reasonably early in the missions, but I spent 5 hours yesterday just playing in the city and having fun without doing a single mission (I turned the phone to sleep mode), and I rather suspect many other people will play this game like me. I could do this for 100's...

If you actually read the original posts made on the forum where this comparison was done, the guy was pretty sure the picture he was using was not sourced from the PS3. Hence the 'almost certainly' - its currently speculation.
The forum post this 'news' is based on, was rejected as news yesterday, but its no surprise its reported on a site thats desperate for hits with absolutely no substantiation at all! Anything GTA gets a headline at the moment.

I'd suggest that we wa...

But E.A do suck!
I know, I worked for them and the experience warped my fragile little brain... I only just managed to escape before I was completely assimilated and all the creativity was sucked out of my brain..

Eventually, even the monkeys at E.A. will learn how to tap some of the power of the PS3 architecture. It won't be any of the dinosaur teams who program titles like Fifa (which still had megadrive code in it last time I worked on that ancient engine), but it wi...

Well that was certainly a lengthy reply! I'm afraid I do disagree with your assertion though, as it plainly is not representative of what I witnessed here.

14 months ago there were no PS3 owners in Europe and merely 2 mill in the US compared with maybe 10 mill 360 users - a ratio of about 5 to 1.
The comments section reflected that.
That the PS3 received amazing amounts of negative press is a matter of record. Much of this was deserved and almost invited, and plen...

It's unusual, but it once again demonstrates the differences in approach of these two machines.
AA is available on the 360 for free. Its not the best, but its there and no developer needs expand any effort in getting it working.
AA for PS3 has to be programmed by the developers. As a result, it can be good, bad, or excellent, it simply depends on how the code and memory has been optomised. Better developers will achieve better results, and poor ports, will have no AA at all. <...

Its so amusing to see the bitterness of various fans!

The game is great on both systems - I'm playing it on 360 now, but I'll also get it for PS3 latter.

Ps3 fans trying to make out that the 360 version is stuttering wreck, are plain wrong.

But 360 fans trying to say theres no difference are also obviously wrong. You can't see anything frow a low res web encoded video so such comparisons are silly.

Fact is - when 360 was the dominant...

Having custom soundtracks instead of the welll crafted and topical radio satations of the game, is actually a detriment. The whole game is crafted to have an identity, and for the GTA series thats very much complimented byt he music stations and city chat shows that help to create the setting of the game.
The thought that so many 13 year old xboys will ruin that with naff hip hop makes me weep for the guys who so skillfully craft the soundtracks and put so much effort and humour into ...

It's plain to see for anyone looking at your history of posting that you are a liar, plain and simple. You are merely trolling and attempting to cast bad light on the 360 - as you have attempted with almost every post you have made on this site, and your attempts are transparent, and quite pathetic.

I hate trolls with a passion, no matter which group they think they are rooting for.

I have been playing the 360 version for 3 days, and its a fine piece of software ...

Absolutely anyone with half a minute can set up a blog and write a biased piece of cr*p.
Its not news, and thats why I am one of many who try and report and not approve blogs unless they are of real relevance i.e. the blog of a respected industry member and insider, or a company blog with official information.

Your review is actually of a high standard and is a worthy read, but if there's any hope of keeping news submission standards up (and I often think their isn't), w...

No, if the movie is not rated for them, then I wouldn't let them.

Whats your point? Or do you have one? Are you suggesting that there should not be any ratting system? Would be happy to have a 10 year old watching hard core porn or a full on gore fest?

The point is, that society thinks its appropriate to control what things young people consume, and regardless of where the line is drawn, its pretty obvious to anyone with even a modicum of intelligence, that it ...

If this 'hobby' ever wants to take itself seriously, then it needs to grow up and accept that some entertainment is intended for, and should only be enjoyed by, adults.

Its exceptionally irresponsible and stupid to claim that a title like GTA should be available to all kids, and whilst I applaud his writing and debating style, his logic is fudementaly flawed. Games will always be seen as puerile past time peddled by the intellectually weak if we continue to insist that an adult...

I see alot of comments in here about tissues with the 360 version - yet I bet most of you commenting haven't even pl,ayed the version.

I've been playing for a couple of days on 360 and theres no discernable pop up or issues with the game at all - don't delude yourself that there is.
The only issue if if the machine has to suddenly load a whole new geometry set - like in a cut scene - then it sits on a loading screen for some time while it gets the data of the DVD. There ...

If you have another source for euorpean sales data, then please do share it. I thought so, it doesn't exist.

You somehow quote Charttrack as if it represents European data? It only represents the UK of course, so its comments, and your link just go to prove that VGchartz is often very close, as their own figures for the UK have also shown the two machines to be incredibly close in that country.

I explained quite clearly that sales of the 360 are the entire point...

Don't you read N4G? I know you do, so you must be looking very selectively if you don't see the weekly sales figures posted?

As you know, the only resonable source of figures for europe is VGchartz. Whilst I'd agree that its absolute accuracy can be questioned, its historically been proven to be very close and be an extrememly good indicator of trends.

So lets look at the last few weeks hardware sales.:

Life time attach rate means very little. looking at the trend of PS3 sales, and extremely high proportion of the US install base has head their machine for less than 4 months, so of course they will not have bought as many titles as people who have owned their machines for considerably longer.

The only valid way to compare buying habits is to work out WEEKLY attach rates. For each given week of software sales, what percentage of a machines owners went out and bought a game.
