Yeah, I will always prefer gaming on a local console as well, but I can't pretend that the streaming future isn't set to take over in 10+ whatever years. You really just have to look at how our society treats media formats over the years. How can we reduce manufacturing costs, how can we increase our profit margins, how can we decrease time from product to customer? Digital solves many of these problems, especially with the ongoing trade war between the U.S. and China.
Curious if MS will repurpose this engine for other first party titles.
Agreed. I think Microsoft will do one more console after Scarlett. 10 years feels about right.
Exactly! Phil needs to get back to his desk and get back to work on that Scarlett console.
Ooooh, can you list some of these examples? Would love to discuss :)
"He's enjoying VR. Obviously not a gimmick like the naysaying blowhards say."
You can enjoy a gimmick! There isn't a rule that says that gimmicks can't be enjoyable. History has proven that.
"Now you don't want options when it suits you guys."
The vast majority of Xbox gamers would prefer that the new studios focus on next gen. When VR makes sense for xbox, it will come to Xbox. it's almost like you ...
Phil Spencer announced TRUE VR!? Can you please send me the link where Phil did this?
Hahaha these comments just keep getting better and better! I love that the big 3 each have their own direction. Each of the 3 will appeal to a different set of gamers. If all 3 were the exact same, the industry growth would slow and the gaming landscape would be kind of dull.
Sony fans are pissed that Microsoft isn't pushing VR for the console industry. That's what it boils down to, if they are being honest with themselves. Sony cares about VR, and that's awesome for them, go for it. There just isn't a need for VR on Xbox at the moment, and that's ok. Just think of the millions of ps5's that will fly off the shelf for PSVR 2 all because microsoft isn't doing it yet. Sony fans should be loving this news. All that sweet console VR money g...
Yes, they do. You just don't agree with it.
Where did he admit that?
@atticus,
Same for MS. Most of their big studios have multiple teams.
That's a fair stance to take. Let's see what these new studios and leadership can do before we pass judgement.
Actually, they don't.
Exactly, Microsoft doesn't care that you buy the console, they just want you in the ecosystem. That will be more evident in this next gen if it isn't already. If it makes you feel better to say xbox doesn't have exclusives, go for it. Nobody is listening anyway.
The difference here is that they put their money where their mouth is and acquired a bunch of studios.
You're taking what he said and twisting it. First off, he was talking about xbox customers and their lack of desire for VR, NOT the PC. He even went on to say that they are supporting VR on PC.
Yeah, he's waiting for the technology to mature while they focus on their first party lineup. Like you said, waiting for it to take off. Nothing wrong with that especially if your customer base isn't clamoring for it. Sony fans REALLY want microsoft to enter the console VR market and I don't understand why.
Exactly. If you look on Microsoft's Xbox request forum, VR is not a highly requested item from the Xbox community. Now that the VR hype has died down, I can imagine MS is relieved that they didn't enter the console VR market. Maybe at the tail end of next gen. I just don't want MS first party teams working on VR. Leave VR for Windows and PS5.
I would think that most people buy nintendo for their IP's, not so much the hardware. Scarlett will be our main consoles for the family and bedrooms but we will still probably invest in Nintendo's next system. Same with sony.
