@Realms
You basically repeated what I said. Here, look...
Me: More software and more developers are the only option MS has left. MS should have never let some of it's studios go in the first place but at the bare minimum should have replaced some of them by now.
You: MS needs more development talent and so far that is not what I'm seeing from them. MS has closed many studios and was starting to focus on games as a service.

Oh, don't forget this eitheruar, Jag:

Anyways, Chris has it right. With the strong sales of the Switch added onto the beating they're taking from Sony already, more software and more developers are the only option MS has left. IMO, MS should have never let some of it's studios go in the first place but at the bare minimum ...
Jaguar,
MS actually said during the launch of the XB1X that since development of the console was wrapped up, they were turning their focus towards games and studio growth. Maybe you should read more of the articles here instead of coming in and making absurd comments. Where's your proof?
Here's mine: https://www.engadg...
Well, at the expense of sounding obvious, usually a company opens up a second studio to make a second game.
I'm with you Tim. I think there's plenty to play on the box, whether it be 1st party or otherwise. I don't know if anyone else around here noticed, but the only first party game on MS' top 10 holiday sales list is Forza 7, while on Sony's there is only Horizon... and both came in at number 10. 3rd party dominates sales on either console because they are good games to play, and whether one can play them (or 1st party) elsewhere is a moot point to me because I still play ...
@ Uptown Soul, you're right and wrong about 2nd Party...
Wikipedia states that a, "Second-party developer is a colloquial term often used by gaming enthusiasts and media to describe three different forms of game development studios:
1.Independently owned studios who take development contracts from the platform holders and produce games exclusive to that platform.[7]
2.Studios that are partially or wholly owned by the platform holder (also known as...
XB1X also has dedicated HW for checkerboarding, although the specific method PS4 uses is patented by Sony. I'm not sure about how the two methods differ, but it's generally accepted that Sony's (custom rendering) technique is more efficient. The reason checkerboarding doesn't appear to be used on the XB1 is solely down to the choices made by the devs (lazy, prefer Sony as lead platform, etc.), not the hardware inside the machine.
I'm not sure why you...
@ Aenea
I guess that means that Quantum Break looked as good as native 1080p according to your theory too?
Maybe they're digging an escape route to avoid any further shame...
Nintendo is more interested in making last gen HW with off the wall accessories, sold at an outrageous profit and supported with solid 1st party HW. This mentality saved their bacon with the Wii and they're sticking to it. It's also a smart move on their part to avoid VR, since it doesn't appear to be making any headlines in terms of gameplay or sales ATM.
I love Jesper Kyd. I was first introduced to him in Hitman 2 but everything he scores is amazing.
I know... It's hard to keep all that GaaS held in...
I wonder what the paid DLC will be though?
Why would you be shocked, when MS said they won't dictate to the developers how to use the power in the 1X?
Hmm... 1080p should be a priority on a 4K console... yeah...
I think that what we're seeing on the 1X right now are OG games with basic patches. Going forwards, new game development should be able to leverage 1X's strengths better, but I'm not sure that it would adversely affect the OG coding.
In the PC world, a great many things can be scaled back from the Ultra settings in order to accommodate a machine with less capable or even different brands of HW. I have to assume that the same would be true of developing with 1X...
@ Godmars290
I'm assuming you're talking about console sales underperforming, because game sales performance would rise with the addition of PC sales and graphics performance is only limited by the device it's played on (or lazy developers, I suppose). I don't know, I guess I don't see total console sales as a big deal as long as I'm happy with my purchase and the exclusives MS offers (which I am) and MS has a profitable ecosystem to keep my system ...
Why the disagrees? Curious, because:
-Foxtrot's response is safe given MS track record
-MS has to change their ways ASAP
-MS succeeded in making a console that can hit native 4K if the developers choose to
-MS said once the 1X was out that they'd focus on games
Is it because I said I have faith? I've seen constant improvements from MS since the launch of the XB1. I've seen attempts to market single player games that fai...
Open world Perfect Dark RPG anyone?
I think you would agree that MS is their own worst enemy right now and they are doing this to themselves. Therefore they can win if they can show initiative and show that their focus is, in fact, on producing the kinds of content that break out of the current mold. In that regard it would be called a personal victory. An alcoholic does the same thing when they check themselves into AA because there isn't an actual adversary associated with alcoholism. I'm sorry that you can't ...
What's been said about Halo 6 that would lead you to that conclusion already? Can you even confirm that there is a Halo 6? Follow the link and you will find this quote in 343's (Stinkles) post (#62):
"We have made zero announcements about our next projects and continue to work on our next game and technology with player's needs and interests in mind."
Note that they use the plural, "projects", suggesting that perhaps some...
